Years ago maybe but when did SAF ever sign ready made players, if he had the belief in Hojlund that EtH supposedly has then I reckon he'd be the one SAF goes for.

United doesn't buy superstars it makes them.
Not only that but i’m not sure why multiple people in this thread are convince Fergie would spend upwards of 100million and insane wages on a 30 year old Kane, no matter how good he is. You make it sound like the man is dumb, he more than likely would have seen it as a stupid short term investment, he’d be more likely chasing Evan Ferguson.

RVP, Owen ? Both forwards, too... Maybe there's something there.
Owen already past his prime, in my memories. But in that sense certainly a finished article. (Free transfer however so maybe not really comparable).

Maybe I'd put RVN up there too. Second largest transfer fee paid by an English club that year (Veron to United).

One thing Levy is master at is, fecking up manager's preparation. He has done it in the past too, now he will do it again. Spurs manager won't be happy that the preparation for next season is fecked as manager doesn't know whether will have Kane or not.

A 25-30m signing on fee with pay parity with Rashford or Varane would effectively make it ~550k/week

The club can afford to pay the wages.. whether or not they want to is a different matter.. also, Levy wont sell cheap to a premier league club.. in his head, he thinks Spurs are our rivals :/

Before people get excited it says we could but we are reluctant because we don't think Levy will sell to us, and the total overall cost involved
IF by some miracle he prefers us over Bayern (not convinced) then have to come up with an attractive financial package to blow them out of water. Yes we might have the trump card of offering shot at goalscoring record but they have the team capable of winning Bundesliga and realistic chance at Champions League too.

If Kane wants to join a premier league club instead of go abroad he could insist that to Levy. Either sell him to a premier league club or he walks for free. It would give the buying club more room for negotiating a fair fee as well. The pressure will then be on Levy because of the Spurs owner’s demands.

of course this all means Kane would need to have a backbone and stand up for what he wants which I don’t think he has.

Yeah how I would love him to prove that he has a backbone but always been no evidence of that. Now I wonder who is on the Goldbridge United Stand video thumbnail later this morning. He does them for unreliable sources so will surely do one when two Utd tier 1's talk.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

RvP
Berbatov
Owen
Dwight Yorke
Sheringham
Andy Cole
Veron
VDS
Steve Bruce
Hargreaves
Larsson

And you’ll notice that a good number of those are strikers.

Indeed, even RvN, who many posters are comparing Hojlund to, joined as a 25 year old who’d scored 62 goals in 67 games for his previous club.

Fergie didn’t feck about with strikers, he did love a gamble, but never as his main CF. He also very much liked PL proven players where possible.

Kane is a SAF signing through and through.

If SAF was here, Kane would already be at Utd.

SAF would be more likely to go for a Watkins, Toney or a Mitro than Højlund (for that fee) as it stands, rightly or wrongly.

Højlund would be the type of player SAF brought in as a cheeky punt alongside his main CF.

Good post to be fair, when you list them like that the strikers do indeed stand out.

I take it back!

Kane is a risk. To put 100 million down on someone who’s 30 this week is that risk. It’s basically RVP again and we need to spend 100 plus again in 3 years.

However RVP was an ingredient that helped us win the league. Kane is the only striker who would guarantee us 25 plus PL goals, even Mbappe is not guaranteed that. Kane is second to Haaland only. I’m sure Hojilund would eventually be great but I think we should throw the kitchen sink at getting Kane.

There's no doubt about that.

You're spot on.

Signing Kane would be SAFs priority. He wanted RVP and got him, and RVP was over the moon to play for him despite being a fan favourite at Arsenal and being the best player in the league. Can't believe that was 11 years ago.

I think we paid 24m for RVP. That was considered a lot for a player with a year left on their contract. Levi would absolutely fleece us. Kane should go for £85m max at 30 and with a year left. 60m would be reasonable.

Every day the players hand gets stronger and Levy's weaker.

If he wants to come here, he needs to go to Spurs and explicitly say that, that he'll sit out his contract and leave on a free unless he is sold now at a reasonable price. I don't think we should be paying any more than we paid for Mount. At least we got some resale value with that fee.

Means burning his bridges, but he's an Arsenal fan anyway.

Kane is 30 years old, which means by most player's standards he can maybe rely on having two or three more years at his best left. He's also not won anything in his career yet.
And now people are seriously suggesting he should just wait another year? Or that winning silverware somewhere else wouldn't be all that?

The only problem there is that they already turned down more than that from Bayern.

I'd say Kane is second to none currently, not even Haaland.

Kane scored 30 premier league goals this past season in a Spurs team that was terrible all year. With Son on awful form, with Conte setting the team awfully. Sure Haaland scored 36 premier league goals, but in a City team that generates chances for fun. I think if swapped teams Kane would have easily outscored Haaland.

Of course Kane is at his peak and Haaland is only 23 and will only get better.

Kane will be good for 3/4 years at the top maybe more. He’s not a player who relies on pace. Look at Lewandowski.

On a Four-year contract, Harry Kane is costing you £25 million per year for a guarantee 25 goals per season.

Agree but Højlund is also a risk as he may need a season or two to adjust. In an ideal world we'd buy both.

I think he 100 percent wants to break Shearer’s record and also play for one of the best clubs in Europe.
Love to see him here as that would mean Rashford improving our wide position also. However, I see him going to Munich, individual records will always be broken, just stats, titles, cups etc will always be yours. He can still come back at 34 or so for a few years to sneak past Shearer.

You don’t get so close and let it go past your fingers when you have a choice.

Also there is noway a 34 year old Harry Kane comes back to England and gets 44 or whatever it is goals. I don’t think anyone can name a striker that age that has done that in this league.

The only way he comes to us is if he exclusively says that to Levy. I dont see him as confrontational types to kick a fuss. He will be a bayern player by next month

I think we are waiting for Spurs to accept an offer from someone before we make any offer. We will submit once we know how much does Levy wants. There is no point submitting an offer as Levy will use the bid to create a bidding war between clubs. Levy will become desperate before the closure of the transfer window, he might come outright to state how much he wants for Kane. It is a waiting game that Levy can't afford to wait much longer. He doesn't have time to find Kane's replacement if this drags out.

The "Fergie wouldn't pay 100M for Kane"; obviously he wouldn't. Because the British transfer record when Fergie retired was, what, Torres for 50M? So of course he wouldn't look to pay double that for Kane. He would look to pay similar to it though, which is what is being asked now (100M being similar to the current transfer record). He had no qualms about paying a huge sum for Berbatov, who'd never hit the numbers Kane has done, and was only 2 years younger at the time.

Agree. Tbh I'd love to have Kane here but I don't think paying him +500k a week is a good idea. It would upset the dressing room and feck up the squad harmony. And it's very unlikely Bayern would pay him that much anyway.

If Kane has some balls just go tell Levy 'let me go now for £60m or I'd join Arsenal or Chelsea next summer'. But obviously he doesn't.

I have decided to ditch the Atalanta lad's thread and camp in here. Come on United, sign Harry Kane and watch us win the league next May

I don't know that we should be throwing £100M at Kane for a number of reasons:

First, he's 30, and like every other aging striker we bought (whether they rely on pace or not), they fall off a cliff quite quickly because quickness in some form is imperative for a striker.

Second, Spurs is built around Kane, the fact he scores for fun there doesn't mean he will in our system (let's be honest, he probably will though - I mean, he did it for Conte, José, Poch, whoever, and for England too).

Thirdly and most importantly, EtH wants an aggressive pressing team, Kane could seriously negate that as I don't believe he's able to keep that up, similar to how we became painfully slow in the press with Ronaldo.

How many more times we'll hear 'they fall of the cliff quickly then they turn 30' myth.
They do though - not exactly at 30 per se, but soon after that. And it's only natural.

RVP, Rooney, Zlatan had the big injury, don't know Benzema's stats, but he looked out of it in a few games I saw last season.

That people age is not a myth, and that 30 is north of a striker's physical peak is not a myth either

Sort of. £25m per year for his actual transfer fee, and then the [alleged] £30m a year for his actual salary.
