I'm glad we didn't piss around with the Hojlund fee. That leaves us time to potentially bring in a first phase midfielder.

The team without a doubt is being developed with a view to playing the game in the opponent's half imo. We just need to bring in a deeper lying midfielder now to give us the option to exert more control in possession from our own defensive third. We're too direct at the moment and variety is the key to success imo.

And then if we can bring in a Amrabat with Mainoo as the longterm solution, then we can target the RCB and RB positions next season.

If we can get him for the same price as we get for MacT then its good business as he can operate as back up for Mount and even Casemiro. He is a better player than Mac

He will start most games beside Casemiro in an 2 imo. He’s too good to be on the bench. Mount beside Casemiro would make me nervous, this man beside Casemiro gives me confidence.

Only thing about this happening or not is whether paying so much for Hojlund would actually mean we need to sell before we seal this deal (which I believe, even if unofficial, is where this is at).

If we have the money here, it's probably the attack that'll have to be compromised this summer. For example, we could have nabbed someone like Kudus if we saved 10m on the Hojlund deal. A bit like how overpaying for Antony killed our chance to buy Gakpo.

Yeah gonna guess this will happen at this point and it'll be the last signing. Donny to Sociedad possibly, Fred will go wherever, still not sure on keeping McTominay if we sign Amrabat but either way. Would've preferred a midfielder under 25 and not one turning 27 in a couple weeks, but if the price is low then I get it.

So who do people think we should go for instead of this guy. We aren’t signing Caicedo this year and Lavia will go elsewhere
If we're not signing this guy, I think this is a role we don't have to spend big bucks on and we can be a bit creative. Federico Redondo, son of Fernando, might be a cool pick up at entry level prices. He's super press resistant and always seems to get his pass off.

Or else, I love the look of André Trinidad. Another super cool customer under pressure.

Now, this is both interesting and fun.

Redondo Jr looks strong.

Not “back up”. Competition, depth, variety of tactical options. Will start a lot of games.

hmm thanks for hint. I watched the video and what Howson described was more or less the perfect midfielder... Which is an issue because if he would be perfect, he would have a different CV. But again, don't want to picture him as a bad player, he certainly has qualities, that are very desirable for us and switching him for Fred or McTom is a definitive win. Still worried about the lack of defensive ability in the squad. Actually a bit suprised to see that the defensive improvement that Casemiro brought seems to be seen as not overly "essential". At least not essential enough to bring in a replacement.

In different videos, two alternatives were named, Caqueret and Sangare. Both seem to have an even more rounded profile and are younger. Amrabat still better than them in terms of passive, don't want to take that away from him.

Edit: and just to be sure: I don't think, that Amrabat isn't a good player or isn't a player we can benefit from having. My point is, maybe there is a player out there who fits even better and who ticks one of the most important objectives for me: have a plan if Casemiro isn't available.
Perhaps ETH doesn't want a direct replacement. Looks to me like he's found a player who can both cover casemiro, should he be missing (see Morocco world Cup run, looked like he can more than play the CDM role) but also someone who can play next to casemiro in big games where the midfield battle is going to be crucial.

I've only seen him play about 6 games, but he's looked like a good player and very dynamic. Personally would welcome this kind of signing.

Matteo Bonetti (Italian TV pundit) thinks that he would be our best signing this transfer window.

I said at the end of last season signing 1 midfielder was not going to be good enough; I honestly think this signing could be as crucial as Mount, Eriksen is on his last legs & McFred simply can’t be tolerated; we can’t afford for the drop off when we lose a midfielder to be so large.

Pedulla has been good this window and now he's reporting that we've placed our bid for Amrabat.

I think as we've been very active in Italy this window it's brought Pedulla to the fore.

Bloomberg reported 260m being available for transfers but couldn’t all be spent due to ffp. Pretty sure this would take us up and around there, what the feck has changed with our ffp? Was it that fine and that’s that?

He actually is. He isnt rapid but he is fast enough for a player in his position. At least he is quicker than Bruno, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fred and McTominay.
Hes not quicker than Mctominay

If we can somehow sell McT for £45m, Maguire for £25m and Fred for £15m. Thats already £85m. Plus Elanga for £15m. We would have made £100m in just sales.

So you're saying we still have 100m for Kane
