Can we just respect how utterly brilliant Daniel Levy has played this one? He now can't lose with this.

Kane wants to leave on a free? Well Levy accepted a monster bid, Kane's the villain now
Kane signs on for more misery? Levy kept his man.
Kane leaves for £100m with a year left on his deal? Deal.
Kane leaves for free but delivers a.... trophy? Wins all round.
I agree, i think Levy has played it well considering Kane has all the cards.

You're missing though...

Kane leaves for free in 2024 and Spurs win noting and finish outside the top 4. Massive loss for Levy.

Something will happen just before season starts. I'm thinking a one year extension so everyone's happy.

Well this thread is certainly active, to say so many United fans don't want the club to bid for him (of course you don't).

Have there been a lot of Utd fans here saying we don't want us to sign for him?

Mostly just those saying we don't think that we will sign him.

Well BILD are claiming that an unnamed club have come and offered Harry Kane higher wages to wait it out as a free agent. Then again they could just be trying to save face.

Maybe Kane is afraid of failing, no trophies at spurs and that will always be blamed on spurs being spurs. But imagine he goes to Bayern and they fail to win the league, he will never stop getting ridiculed.

Unless he signs a new contract, which I don't see happening, Kane has really fecked Spurs over if he stays.

They don't get the money and face him leaving on a free. Further, they undoubtedly spent a huge amount of time and energy negotiating this deal and looking at replacement strikers, the uncertainty around his status had to be a substantial drag on Postecoglou's ability to prepare for the new season, and it probably also really hurt Levy's position in the market that because he didn't know his true budget and also other clubs likely assumed he would sell Kane and therefore could price players higher that Spurs were interested in buying.

If he didn't want to leave, then Spurs would clearly have been much better off with him publicly declaring that a month or two ago.

It's not missing. It's the first option on there.

Kane won't be a villain really, of course. But it won't be seen as bad on Levy for losing him on a free. He's certainly saved face, if only a little.

If that's true then Bayern have given up.

Apparently Kane doesn't want to fly in on friday or saturday for talks

If charlie has actually smartened up over the years, he would do his brother a solid and tell him to stay another year and then be able to CHOOSE the club of his liking with what will be an extremely inflated salary.

I'm certain even we could offer him a salary that would blow anything bayern has offered out of the water.

At the end of the day, they don't owe levy or anybody jackshite. He's earned the right to choose his next club.

Most likely, yes.
Yeah, Bayern pay massive wages (i don't think resident Bayern opp fans will refute this). If it's a 'wait and see', it'll be on the basis that he's not sure about leaving the UK, or at least doesn't fancy the German league as much as PL or possibly La Liga. Again, for the Bayern fans, no-one's saying they're 'small-time', just that Bundesliga as a whole tends to be ranked around 3rd on list of leagues for many English fans, and by extension players (maybe in part because Bayern dominate it so heavily)....

EDIT: the relative signing-on fee of course might be another issue TBF. I'd still incline towards explanation above, but its a fair caveat people have raised,

Kane doesn't have the bottle to leave. You couldn't put him at a better club for his level of ambition than spurs. Destined to play out his entire career with zero trophies.

Yes, could be as easy as he just dont want to move to Germany.

Imagine how Bayern must be feeling. Weeks of having to pull teeth with Levy only for Kane to say "I'd rather stay" anyway.

What a waste of talent if he stays at Spurs. He shouldn’t have signed that last contract.

I think Kane would be nuts to do that. He'd just be in the same situation next summer where Levy won't sell to a rival English club and he has to either move abroad or sign another extension. At that rate he'll still be there when he's 44. Signing contract extensions every year, cackling into the night sky, out in the wilderness wearing just flip flops and talking to his reflection twinkling from a metal spoon.

I'm looking forward to seeing Spurs play this season, and think (with Kane and a back-up) they could finish...two places above where they did last time, but surely there's no way he stays at Spurs past next June, regardless of what unfolds...

I don’t want any of you lot to ever tell me Bayern are a “well-run club” again.
