Those players you listed was well known or massive prospects though? Ourselves and Bayern was in for Thiago, Kroos was already world class, Verratti was touted as the next great Italian player hence a move to PSG, Cavani smashing goals in Italy etc they are all massive players that attracted top teams and cost hundreds of millions

Amrabat is 27, the best level he's ever reached is Fiorentina and they want 20m quid for him.

Answer my question, why is nobody actually in for him at that price?
Why are you talking about your own club like they're a small, irrelevant club? Are you implying Ten Hag isn't capable of targeting good players? Juventus, Atletico and United are in for him, so don't really know what you're talking about.

He has a year left on his contract, and he doesn't want to renew, which is why Fiorentina is selling him cheap. It's not small money for them, even if it is for us.

The highest level Fernandinho reached at 27 was Shakthar, and he became better. He and Amrabat share very similar traits.

Why weren't more clubs interested in Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, Kroos from Bayern (apart from us and Real), Verratti from Pescara, Cavani from Napoli, Dembele from Barcelona, Rakitic from Sevilla and so on?

I'm not saying he is as good as these players, but that argument is really bad. You're creaming yourself over Lavia who has done literally nothing but get relegated with his team to Championship, but Amrabat, who is currently the superior player in every single aspect of the game, is not a good player who won't improve us?

You have not watched him more than 3 games and it's very, very obvious. I get that at a 26 (soon 27) year old midfielder who hasn't been at a top club before doesn't appeal to you, but don't make up shit.
Good stuff. In an ideal world we'd get a Casemiro-deputy like Lavia in addition to Amrabat or the like, but this isn't that world. Especially when we've already spent a lot of money already this summer. There is no question who will make our team better right now between those two. A couple of years down the road that might look different, who knows, but people are up in arms about us signing a young striker and Amrabat is suddenly old?

Loads of teams have paid absolute fortunes for DM's this summer, not one has taken a punt on Amrabat?

FYI ive seen him plenty and think he's shite
He's better than McT and Fred. Maybe nobody else is in for him, because they don't have any use for him in their squad.

I think you should put a bit more faith in ETH, he's obviously got a plan and wants players who will fit into that plan. Which is why he's perfectly happy to let Maguire, DDG, Fred, Ronaldo, McT etc all go. And replace them with players who are more in tune with what he wants.

He'll be 42 by the time he signs.

You went on a tirade of mentioning players that were all top internationals linked with massive clubs and tried connecting that to Amrabat? made no sense and I don't understand the connection.

He's got a year left but they have the option of a further year and will probably trigger that if needed.

We have Casemiro, Id rather not spend money on backup and would rather us get a young prospect in. Amrabat is more shite for the bench and we've done a good job this summer of getting rid of that.

The connection is that they were good to great players, but only few clubs were interested in them, which is the case for Amrabat. How is that difficult to connect?

Most top clubs already have a deep lying playmaker in their team, so obviously they have no use for Amrabat. We don't, which is why we're after him.

We have a young prospect in Mainoo. What we need is someone coming into their prime to bridge the gap between him and Casemiro. Whether Amrabat is the right person only time will tell, but his age and experience profile fits our current squad make up so much better than another young prospect.

The day it’s hard to find alternatives to Amrabat is the day football dies.

There’s plenty of names. Which we will probably find out about once Fred and Donny officially leave.
I’d rather let Fred go for free and then pay the £25m Amrabat fee to re-sign Fred than sign Amrabat.

He’s fecking bobbins.

Have you seen his passing stats though? Midfielders that can pass is rare these days
I have seen all of his stats and they’re woeful. He’s the kind of player who passes the eye test on first viewing, then not so much when you actually look at what he contributes and the effects his deficiencies have on team performance, coherence and shape. He’s the hardest of passes for me from the admittedly limited amount of viewing I’ve had of him.

Difference being, I’ll admit to not watching Fiorentina every week, unlike most of the part time scouts on here.

Nearly all those you listed were top internationals or players with massive potential that was chased by most of the top clubs in Europe it's the exact opposite for Amrabat he's 27 and apart from links there's no solid bids in for him even at a lowly fee of 20m

Bottom line for me is that I just wanted a younger prospect to step in for Casemiro. If we go for Amrabat he's sat on the bench and when Casemiro leaves in the next couple of years we're paying 100m for the quality of starter we'll then need.

Yeah for me I didn’t see much that highlighted/showed he was a good DM. He’s a good passer from what I’ve seen but I mean most midfielders should be able to pass. We’ve just been unfortunate with ours lately. I mean Tom Cleverly could do amazing sideways passes and the fan base hated him.

People have been saying that about every potential CM option for years.

Zidane Iqbal, Charlie Savage, Van de Beek, Mejbri, Sabitzer, Matic, Mata, Pereira, Lingard, Garner, Lindelof.

McTominay and, until recently, Fred have seen them all off.

Are you not reading my post? They were good to great players that were chased by few clubs. They weren't chased by most top clubs as you claim. You're just making things up along.

The entire point is that - despite being good players - there was not interest by a lot of clubs, but that does not mean they're not good players. Some of them were, as you mentioned, great, so why weren't they chased by all top clubs? The simple answer to that is that a club can't sign every player, particularly not when you don't have the need for the player's role.

Off that list id maybe give you sanitizer.

The rest are youth players that had potential, OAPs who started ahead of them both, or literally players who play in different positions completely...

I'm not saying they were valid options. I'm only saying they were all put forward as "can't be worse than" or claimed to be "has to be better than".

The point being that those two have something that managers like that isn't as easily replaceable as some would have you believe.

Glazers unwilling to spend without certainty on outgoings.
Maguire bid accepted. Sell him NOW and bid for Amrabat immediately thereafter. Then wait for Fred/Kovar/other money to spend on a CB. Why should it be defence money from defender sales and midfield money from
Midfield sales?

Because they were top players that only a few clubs could make the purchase? mate mentioning Kroos who was wanted by Madrid and United and is one of the best German players in years whilst being one of Bayern's best players is so far away from Amrabat it's not even funny. So because only United and Madrid wanted him its a similar situation? believe me if a player the calibre of Kroos was available for 20m he would have gone in the first week of summer.
That's funny. Kroos went to Real Madrid for €25m. You really do just write whatever you want that suits your point

Lavia is 19. We have our own Lavias in Mainoo and Gore - if this year they are given Lavia minutes, then next year we have 2 players of same quality (if not better).

10 years ago when that was a decent fee for a player with 12 months on their contract?

He was known as one of the best midfielders in Europe and an important player for Germany ffs

What the feck are you talking about? You keep repeating yourself how good a player is. That is not the point. Do you not think I know that Kroos was a top player for Bayern?

The point is that you're not a shit player because not all the top clubs are after you. How is that so hard for you to grasp? We're after Amrabat. We're a top club. What else do you want? Would you be all fine with the signing if City wanted him as well?

Again: just because a top club is not after you does not mean you're a bad player. All the top clubs have a player in his role who are equally as good or better, so they don't need him.
We don't, so we need that kind of player. Do you understand what I'm saying?

It is exactly the point. And that's the part you seem to be missing when you're trying to compare Amrabat to a players like Kroos, Thiago and Cavani.

Theres no doubt in those players. There's plenty of doubt on Amrabat.

You cant say well only Bayern are in for Kane is he shit as well???? and then try and compare the situation to Amrabat. It's absurd

My guess is the reason why other clubs haven't gone in for him is because they know he wants to come to us. It's not like he wasn't attracting interest, it was reported that Barca had an interest in him and also Liverpool.

That is not the point I'm trying to make, no, but you're making it more difficult than it has to be

I don't compare their quality. They are quite obviously better than Amrabat. Look, Real Madrid are stacked in midfield with the best talents at the moment. Barcelona have Frenkie de Jong and Gundogan, City have Rodri and Kovacic, Bayern have Kimmich, Chelsea have Enzo Fernandez.

All of these players offer what Amrabat does, but to a higher level. That means that these top clubs don't need him, so why should they be interested in him?

That's part of my point they have top quality in the squad if we can't get that type of player because the fee would be too high then fine but at least get someone who could possibly reach those levels. Madrid are the best example they have Modric and Kroos but then have some of the best young midfielders in Europe coming through

My main issue all along as been that Amrabat will be brought in for squad depth and that will be his limit. Id prefer to go for a younger player who can not only fill that role but potentially develop into a Casemiro replacement when he leaves

It's not Amrabat that's irreplacable, it's more the dearth of competent players who play this position at a high level and are affordable/gettable. Still think we should leverage the South American scouting network as there's a few there with elite potential and we could potentially find a world class talent at our disposal for a decade.

How are most of the people in this thread confident he will be good given they’ve seen him as much as I have?
I'm not but the manager knows him, so I'm willing to extent some trust he should be a good fit. If he turned good he would be an example of finding good value in players overlooked. If he's really 30m£ or below, that's a relatively cheap punt in the context of Manchester United.

If we buy him he won’t be on the bench. EtH doesn’t believe in back up players. No decent managers at top clubs think that way. EtH is getting rid of those players, the Freds, the Maguires. That’s obvious. He’s not recruiting more guys who he has no intention of using. Christ this is so fecking obvious.

Shocking post. Yeah, that is some truly awful stats. This is the exact reason we're signing him.

He bought Malacia didn't he? Weghorst?

He is 100% a bench player. He's not getting in ahead of Case, Mount or Bruno. To be fair anyone coming in now will be used for rotation but id rather we had a young player in that spot rather than Amrabat

Mount will be the guy that will have to rotate. He is clearly below the other two and it will show. Currently, he is not showing much on the ball.
