I've seen comparisons to the De Jong situation, but that was over deferred wages when Barcelona restructured the deal mid-contract. That's an unusual scenario. This is the run of the mill situation where a player is just being sold before the end of the contract but has received all wages up until then.
If compensation of millions is due to Maguire based on the wages for the rest of his contract, does that mean in situations where the player is the one pushing for the move then they have to compensate the club for millions of the transfer fee for 'breaking' the contract mid way through?
