The **** of martial is still alive and kicking I see.
Never understood the love-in for him. Maybe it's the younger generation who are witnessing our barren years and the lack of real talent almost everywhere on the pitch. I can't believe that there are people who have followed United throughout the 90s/00s (or further back) and have watched the forwards who have worn the shirt for us and think that Martial's "got it".

But he's the best option we have when he's fit. Who cares? Eight years we've been trying to build a team with him as an integral part of the attack and there's nothing to show for it. At least Rashford's pace gives the opposition defences something to worry about. Languid, temperamental and completely tone-deaf to what's happening around him when he can't make his favourite - start centrally and move to the left half space - move work.

It's funny that people present him like some safe or proven option when he manages to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes. Well, he kind of is, i guess. If he's allowed time and space to turn around and face the goal and if his marker doesn't go hard on him (and make him go AWOL for half an hour), he can do a job up front. He's another expensive mistake on exorbitant wages. He's not alone, mind you. He's got good company.

Talk of a big offer from Saudi (no reliable links) and me debating whether it's better to keep him as backup or let him go without any replacement.
Sounds like bollocks? Saudi? May as well keep him anyway cannot be putting all eggs in the Rasmus basket imo

If there was a Saudi offer for him only way I see club accepting would be if they thought they could get something relatively soonish out of he who shall not be named. Then I could understand them thinking just survive up front for a month or two

I would absolutely sell him if I knew I could line up a replacement. Let's be honest, the replacement wouldn't need to be a world beater. The criteria would essentially be a) stays fit and b) is better than Wout Weghorst.

If we could tick those attributes off, he would probably add just as much if not more than Anthony Martial is capable of. Maybe he'd even look interested.

But I don't think it is going to happen with the money Martial is on which complicates everything. Oh well. Least he is not bad at hold up play.

Oh absolutely, for those who have amusingly referred to me as the **** of Martial just 2 or 3 pages back I've said I'd be happy if we replaced him with Chupo-Moting for a season.

But he's better than Rashford (in that position) when available.

This is what I'm not getting here. Would you not just want the best possible player playing in that position for any given match?

It just feels like frustration with Martial is clouding logic.
Frustration and clouded logic..... says the person who keeps banging on about how good he can be "when he's fit". And would be happy with Chupo fecking Moting.... I'd give his time to McNeill or Hugill than have either of those two stinking up the place.

He's never the best possible option. Because you cannot rely on him to be available, that is why he should go, doesn't matter what he does "when he's fit", because you never know when that's going to be or how long it will last. FA cup final is a prime example of that.

Any player who is as unavailable an has been underperforming as he has been for the last 3 or 4 years should be booted out the door.

Choupo-Moting could definitely do a job for us as could people like Iheanacho/Morata but can't see us getting any of them before window shuts

Yes let's mock the idea of signing Bayern Munich's starting striker from last season as a backup when he was in the top 10 in Europe for goals per minute and scored 4 in 7 in the Champions League and play a striker with a 1 in 10 scoring record in league 2.

I wouldn't mind it. If he's good enough to be the back up striker at PSG and Bayern Munich I reckon he could come in handy.

Obviously that young lad Orban would be more exciting but I can't see us signing someone like that at this stage.

If we can get 10-15M for him we should take them. He's not starting quality and is so injury prone that isnt even reliable to be a squad option. Just getting his huge wages off would be good, he's got only one year left on his contract surely we wont be extending it and he'll walk away for free anyway.

Yeah or that Leonardo either,be surprised if we tried for Choupo-Moting though as Erik will think he has a 9 in Hojlund. Personally I always think you need a backup but seems Utd don't agree

I'll mock the idea of signing a striker who couldn't hit a barn door for Stoke, who has hit over 10 goals in a season about 3 times in his whole career including 2 spells in 2 teams who absolutely dominate their league and score about 100 goals a season.

I'd rather give the time to Hugill or McNeill.

They just don't look ready for the massive step up

Well we will all have a big sigh of relief that you aren't making decisions for the club.

I don't rate Choupo-Moting very highly, and would hope we're not in for him. But Hugill and McNeill are League 1 / League 2 level.

Rather give them the time than Chupo Moting. He's fecking useless.
What he is is a striker who PSG and Bayern who are both far better ran clubs than us considered good enough to be a backup striker and were rewarded with him being in the top 10 in Europe for goals per minutes and 4 goals in 7 games in the Champions League.

What he isn't is a player with a 1 in 10 record in league 2.

We need him to start the next match. Rashford cannot play in the middle. Drop Antony and Garnacho, and start Sancho on the right. We've always looked a threat with that front 3 when they're fit.

Yeah let's stick with that. The league must be terrified.
You were waiting for the moment, weren't you? For your information, i don't rate Rashford as a world-class talent, either. I felt it was beyond idiotic to put both of them on the wages we did back in 2019. But, yeah, thank God Martial was brought on and made the difference today.

No, I wasn't looking forward to my club losing. I'd far rather Rashford scored a hattrick and have nothing to say.

Sadly I did know I wouldn't have to wait long as he isn't a lone striker.

Martial looked better in that role in 5 minutes than Rashford has in 175 minutes. I'm not some martial advocate but whatever decision is taken we need to all understand that Rashford as a lone striker is not an option.

He's the only natural striker we have fit to play. Came on and was a focus point even if he didn't set the place alight.

One positive to look forward to at least.

The warm weather will do him good, his injury issues will be a thing of the past.
If Mason Mount with 1 year left on his contract is worth 60m, i would say Martial is worth 80m, i mean, he is for sure a more talented player. It`s pocket change for the Saudis. Let`s make it happen.
Also Martial will bring lot of fans with him wherever he goes.

If we get over 20m for him, it would be great.

Just hope we don't act surprised after selling him and fail to get a replacement because there's not enough time.

If we don’t get a substantial fee that can be used to sign another striker. This would be the stupidest thing to do given the performances we have just witnessed from Rashford at no 9

I know it's great in a way, we need to be able to move him on, but we need to be really careful with this. Hojlund aside he is our only true number 9 right now, lord knows we've proved that over the last couple of games. We 100% must have a replacement lined up. I know we can argue well Martial is never fit, we won't miss him etc, but we would.

Please. Just submit a bid, anything, anything. Please.

Gary Neville and the commentator were laughing about seeing him in a red shirt yesterday. The guy makes us a laughing stock. Please, he must go.
