Never forget that half the caf wanted this man to be our club captain back in 18/19.
I call bullshit. Quote one post.

Can’t believe we’ve got Lukaku! As I heard that we’d got him on Sky Sports News earlier, I unzipped my gimp mask to ask Keith if he’d seen it, but he punched me in the back of the head with one of those big trucker fists of his and told me to stay in character whilst he finished. It’s destined to one of those halcyon days where both ends end up hurting.

I’m not sure if it’s Lukaku or just the reaming, but I’m grinning from ear to ear, in two places, thinking about all the goals he’s going to score for us. I hope he’s made captain.

As memory serves many people wanted him to be a RW, that was an actual thing
yeah but that’s just because when a player’s touch is that good, you want him on the ball as often as possible.

Man I remember after World Cup 2018 there was a poster who said that in his opinion Lukaku was the best player at the World Cup, and was totally serious about it. There aren’t many posts on the caf that stand out in my memory but that was one of them.

Lukaku or Antony at RW, who do you pick ?
If you could move Lukaku's crossing into Antony he'd be amazing, on a serious note though clearly Antony. The thought of Big Rom having to track runners down that win for 90mins gives me the shivers for whoever our poor RB is.

How did this lad engineer this. He could have been at the biggest club in the country or the European Cup finalists with a team that e lnjoyed having him.

Struggling to remember someone who has taken a hammer to their career and relationships in football like this guy has.

He's spectacularly thick and has a massive ego.

That’s what, £16M in loan fees now? I’d we can ship him for £25-30M next summer, I’d consider it good business - £40-45M altogether.

I give it until Christmas before Jose has had enough of him and he's not even on the bench anymore.

This means he is either taking a big wage cut or Chelsea are covering some of it, the part he is not giving up…

It’s been reported he’s taking a pay cut.

He's always had one agenda and that's being given the unconditional 90 minutes he believes he's entitled too every week.

So he shouldn't have any problems at Roma (unless Mou gets replaced) as if I'm not mistaken he pandered to those desires when you had him.

Why would he?
Because his big ego is more important than his pay check. He thinks he's a superstar player so wants a club that give him that status.

This is the one instance his delusions of grandeur comes in handy.

So what happened with Inter / Juve? Thought he was odds on going there.

So, taking a pay cut is good for someone with a big ego? That is new.

Who knows mate. It’s just what’s been reported. Maybe he feels backed into a corner? I mean he’s been training on his own at Cobham for many weeks now. Juve, Inter and Saudi are off the table now. It’s either be an outcast at Chelsea playing 0 minutes, training in isolation or I guess take a pay cut to play in Rome for a year.

I think Chelsea vowing to put him in the stands for a year is a lot more credible than, say, PSG threats to Mbappé. Burned his boats at CFC, then at Inter, Juve weren't that interested (and some fans hostile)... He hit a low point in club and country.
Also I suspect Lukaku is the sort to want to prove we were all wrong : Can only do that by playing.

AS Roma, as I understand, is absolutely short-handed for strikers. He'll get plenty of minutes, know the coach, the club has some prestige... I think he reckons that if he doesn't play this year his career will take a sharp nosedive.

Was Inter reluctant to extend his loan or what?
They were finalizing a transfer bid when the story broke Lukaku had contacts with Juventus on the eve of the CL final (IIRC) because he was distraught with his place at Inter -or so it's told-. Personally I think that part of the story was a storm in a teacup : Surely players or their agents must exchange flirty admiration and promises to work together in the future on the regular ?
But Lukaku apparently ghosted his Inter bosses and teammates, ultras were incensed... And Inter aborted the deal and broke up.

Then Juve didn't come (apparently they hoped to sell Vlahovic and swap Lukaku there) and CFC / Poch told him to train on his own.

He's turning into a strange one. He spent 4 years at Everton, and since then it's stints of one or two years in a place. It would be good for him to settle at one club now and just make his mark there. The Italian league works for him and he has to make it work. Not sure where else he can go after this, unless Saudi Arabia decides they want him.

I thought he was onto a great thing at Inter and he should have made more of that. It's the perfect level for him.
