2021/2022
£4.5M per week
£238.7M per year

Squad top earners included Ronaldo, Pogba and De Gea. Varane, Martial, Cavani up there.

2023/2024
£4.12M per week
£214.4M per year

Squad includes Sancho, Casemiro, Varane. Rashford's new contract is not causing as much damage as is the assortment of middle tier and supporting cast players that are earning incredibly high wages for the little they contribute on field.

The picture paints a systemic problem that's going to take another few seasons to remedy...if we learn from past mistakes

Across the league:
City £216.24M
United
...
Arsenal £178.88
Chelsea £157.9
Liverpool £147.2
Spurs £110.7
Aston Villa £107.6
Newcastle £101.8

Well, I'd hope we cut it down a little bit more than this, but at least it's a good direction I guess. Could we get the figures for other top6 teams maybe for comparison?

£400k per week is a good reduction.

Henderson is gone now, which is another £100k per week. So it’s really £500k per week.

Bailly also on the way out hopefully this week, so that’ll be another £80k per week.

I was going to say its an improved picture before the edit but yeah, it'll take time to resolve. I dont know how it compares to others or what the wages of guys like dalot, eriksen or antony are. We've shed a lot of expensive contracts and there haven't been any eye watering additions that i've heard of. Rashford probaby earned a silly contract but it sounded pretty reasonable (i cant remember the details off hand)

United are in a spiral, selling clubs know that United will pay over the odds for average players, players know that if United really want them, they will pay over the odds in wages.
Only Chelsea surpass us in awarding stupid contracts.

Mount and Antony stand out from the current regime. Both way overpaid. Mount was on £80k/w at Chelsea. We literally tripled his wages.

I deleted City seeing as they're not a football team. Looks a good improvement in that context. Its not great value for money compared to Arsenal but its a significant improvement imo.

Chelsea wanted Mount to stay and had a Contract worth over £200k per week offered to him for over 6 months.

We’re still overpaying our players. From our current top 10 highest paid players only Casemiro, Varane, Shaw, Bruno and maybe Rashford are fairly paid.

Cheers. Quite mental we still have the 5th highest bill in the world. I am surprised to see Chelsea so low, how much do they pay their numerous 100m+ signings? 200k week tops?

If that Antony number is right….

You mean to tell me both clubs and agents are shafting us? We overpaid Ajax cos of how late the transfer was, what good reason can someone come up with paying him that salary?

Good move there tbh with all the charges. I'll edit in the % of revenue in later because that's an important consideration.

Yeah that one stands out. Martinez on 120k a week looks a bit of a gamble too to be honest. It paid off and i'd be pretty happy with that but it could have been an albatross if it hadn't gone well.
Eriksen on 150k is overpriced until you realise it was a free and it looks much more reasonable. Then its legacy contracts.

low wages but super long contracts.
They don't need to hand out fresh contracts for another 5 years, so the wage bill won't spiral out of control for many a year, IF the players turn out to be good, that is.

I'm just being a bit trolly to be honest but they're not a great team for comparison. Think it just muddies the waters personally.

It really should be more.

We got rid of Ronaldo, Pogba and Cavani without having any real replacement for them. And that’s not even counting getting rid of De Gea’s ridiculous salary.

Thought it'd be a fair bit lower than that. It's still mental how high it is relative to the quality of the players. The people responsible for all those contracts should never be in charge of finances at any business

What is the source for this?
To quote from the image of whatever website/app it is "All salaries are estimates as actual salaries may vary. Unverified players are calculated using algotithms, or sources from reporting that hasn't been confirmed yet. Coverage may be limited or incomplete."
So it is just some educated guesswork garnished with a lot of poorly educated guesswork.

But by all means, let us use it as an opportunity to blindly hate on some of our players even more.

Ffs none of these figures are even remotely correct. Just got on the MANUTD.IR website and check our annual report and see just how far off these numbers are. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t do basic research before publishing utter shite like that.

The difference between us and Arsenal is apparently just getting Sancho and Martial off the books at around £600k per week which equates to around £30m a year? Based on their performances, we won’t even miss much.

Not really. We’re supposed to be one of the top 5 clubs in the world. You can argue the quality doesn’t justify that, but the player’s wages are decided when they are signed, not when they’ve been underperforming for years at the club. They’re signed to play for a top 5 worldwide club.

We have players signed from more than 10 years ago? because it’s been more than 10 years since we can be considered one of the top 5 clubs in the world.

Of course those numbers don’t show how much is incentivised. Sancho on 350k but that’s definitely not base. It’s likely heavily incentivised by appearances and goal contributions.

Shifting out Maguire, VdB, Henderson, Bailly this window will also help enormously. Martial on 250k should also be rectified next summer when we can bring another striker in.

I’d also suggest Antony’s deal is incentivised.

We've done nothing in a decade to show we're one of the top 5 clubs in the world. So the idea of paying players on the basis that we are is nonsense. Player's should get rewarded when they contribute to the team to take us to that level, not before we've reached it

And then Mount would sack his agent for doing a bad job. Mount had plenty of clubs trying to sign him and all were offering similar wages as United.

All the salaries are from crap sites like capology and Spotrac, as usual people fall for these shit sites all the time.

What wages the players are getting is guess work all we know for sure is Woodward/Judge put certain United players on ridiculous wages and contracts, a mess that Ten Hag is still in process of sorting out.

Well then we could always walk away from that deal like City do all the time and look for alternatives. Mount is hardly the kind of player who should be anyone's priority signing and one who we should be overpaying.

Not in terms of success on the field but that is different to the size of a club. We can’t expect to have the biggest revenue, biggest transfer spend, second biggest average attendance worldwide (only due to stadium size otherwise we would be top), yet pay top 15 wages.

Do people actually want us to be paying less overall in total wages just so the Glazers can pocket it?

We need to improve the quality of players in the squad, not worry about whether we’re reducing the total wage bill to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

That’s the problem though, we can’t improve our quality of players because they’re just going to demand way higher wages when they hear how much bang average players are earning with us.

I was looking at Capology and I think the wage mass just bumped a lot 6-7 years ago from 150m£ / year estimated ? Didn't check if similar teams did the same. If so I suppose there's some outside reason for it (currency fluctuation, regulatory issue, etc). Edit : Or change in how they estimated it, I suppose.

This is all approximate but I think the club is addressing it and maybe aiming for 200m£~ ?

As noted Sancho is on a completely mental wage. Varane and Casemiro you can understand to an extent, coming from Real and the best pedigree in the business. I suppose wages were an hammer argument from United to convince some players to consider the club but they went way overboard with it.

We can as we finally clear through some of the long term players. The problem is we keep signing players that aren’t doing a good enough job and get stuck with them, while also needing to replace them. If Sancho was performing like we assumed he would, then we might not have needed Antony. Same with Eriksen and Mount.

Basically, the club has no problem paying £4 million a week in wages, it just needs to be far smarter in using it. Not just reducing it down for the sake of having a lower wage bill.

Pretty much this. It can be fine to get some extremely rough estimates, but even for clubs that get a ton of media attention and reports there is going to be a massive difference between those figures and released financial statements.
