Don't know why you think that way. In two years, he will be 31. I can genuinely think it can happen.

With the amount of games he plays don't be surprised if he ends up being completely shot physically like Eriksen.

Two years is a long time in football , I would go even in one step further If United put Fernandes on Market even now He would hardly gain any interest from any of Tier 1 Clubs.

Yea, I was just trying to draw comparison with De Gea and how there was little interest. I fully agree with you that Bruno will struggle to interest any big clubs.

We won't be looking to sell him for the foreseeable future anyways. He is more likely to see out his contract leave on a free than us looking to sell.

Bruno is a great player, but you have to build around him.

Mourinho would have probably preferred a keeper more commanding in his box, but he didn't have issues with the renewal and he even granted De Gea's wish for the club to hire his keeper coach of choice. The most baffling thing about it is that the club decided to make him the highest earner in the world in his position in an age when the role has been gradually moving further and further away from his better attributes. Then, we doubled-down by making a centre-half who belongs in the same category as De Gea the most expensive defender in the world. At other clubs, like Madrid/Barcelona/Bayern/City, there wouldn't even be a discussion on executive level about the "usefulness" of players like Fred, VdB or McT, let alone players who have been good servants of the club.
iirc Jose wasnt with United when DDG got his renewal. Jose was gone in 2018?: and DDG got his renewal in 2019?
And when he was renewed, Jose was on Sky Sports saying it was a crazy move by United as nobody else would have done the same. And he was right.

Ive said it many times, but DDG has benefited from a lot of the managerial changes United have had, meaning theres always been other issues to resolve before DDG even though I always maintain the keeper is one of the most important parts of the spine and needs to be resolved first.

Exactly, thats why we end up having one of the most expensive wages in the world without even being a top 10 team. It didnt only happened with De Gea but also Martial, Sancho, Bruno, Maguire, feck even Brandon Williams has a contract of 65K or something.

We overpay these players not based on merit but on renewal time. It's like we must increase the wages each time we give a new contract even when players havent performed like we expected. Which hurts us both on FFP and makes its harder to move these players out when needed.
We havent learnt either, because it looks like weve given Rashford a big deal, which makes no sense at all. And improves the negotiating power of players we try and bring in or when we try renew other players.

Fair enough. Yeah, when he signed the last contract (September 2019) Solskjaer was just beginning his first full season. I remember that Mourinho allowed him to have his own coach (LvG had backed his man, Frans Hoek, something that De Gea didn't like) and that's probably where i got it wrong. It's quite telling, though, that even Solskjaer thought about it and made an attempt (a timid one) to remove him from the starting line-up. I think it showcases the problem with player evaluation from the people who are positioned above the manager in the hierarchy. I agree about Rashford. The craziest one, though, has to be Sancho. What were they thinking?

If you expect a "decent profit, as you say, i wholeheartedly agree. But if your expectations are for Rashford to fetch an Mbappe-like fee, Garnacho to be around 100 million and you also treat Shaw like "one of the best FBs in the world" and you also want to turn a profit from selling Martinez, you'll be disappointed. Very disappointed.
Im saying these players still have decent market value and suitors. It would be easy sell, Providing club wants to move on from them.
Just like united shouldve moved on from pogba when he was obviously burnout with the club, he was still a 60m player despite of all the hiss he was making.
But the board tried to make him a **** hero instead because its "The United way" ???
Bottom line We dont operate like a football club and lot of players had/have taken advantage of it

who do you feckin think ?
i'm still surprised he has not got a club. I thought the Real Madrid/Courtois injury was a sure fire move for him but that was some slap in the face for him when they decided to go and get fecking Kepa instead !

He must be still looking for too much money, possibly he has lost his hunger for the game and is happy to wait for an outstanding offer to play again.

Either way i hope it all works out for him and wish him well wherever he goes.

If he finds an offer above 70k a week I'll be amazed

De gea would have ended up on the bench when Courtois ultimately returns. Not sure that would have been a good deal, creates more issues for Madrid and he won't want to stay on the bench. Meanwhile Kepa is a short term deal to cover for a year until Courtois is back, and even if he ends up staying, he won't have a big issue being a bench option.

I see no big clubs in need of a keeper at the moment or have keepers worse than De Gea. His only option is to step down and go to a tier 2 club. That involves reducing his salary, of course. Is he willing to do this ?

Bruno is still a good player but would be hard to ship him to club that want to challenge for titles.
Other midtable clubs would form a line for to sign him

He’s out of contract, he has no fecking salary to reduce and we overpaid him so much that even Saudi clubs won’t match what he was getting based on his performances.

He's far from a great player. Great workrate though.

Scholes, David Silva, DeBruyne. Those are great PL players and Bruno is nowhere near their level.

That is bs, he is close behind Kevin de Bruyne with goals+assists as is James Maddison. But Kevin plays for Cheaty FC with Haaland, while we had Weghorst for half a season. See where I am going?

He has his standards regarding the salary he's getting paid, I'm pretty sure.

If you genuinely watch Fernandes and de Bruyne and think they are close in ability you are crazy.

Fernandes is fantastic and genuinely is probably underrated given his off-putting tendencies to moan and whine, and he is comfortably our best player. But de Bruyne is pretty unequivocally one of the best midfielders in Premier League history.

Agreed.
Carrick it isn’t anywhere near Scholes, and Bruno isn’t anywhere near Carrick. At least that’s how I see it.
This place is the weirdest place. Its the place Bruno is least rated. Every united fan and rival I know in real life considers Bruno united heartbeat and most important player. To compare him with Carrick Christ. First they don't have the same role. Second Bruno is higher ranked at what he does (a midfield creator) than Carrick ever was at what he did and I rate Carrick very much.
Also on this platform people talk down Rashford too. This two are United best and probably the top three post SAf alongside De Gea. They're also among the best players in the league currently. Someone said Mitoma is better than Rashford. Mitoma is a very good player in his own right but only Vini and Mbappe are ahead of Rashford among left forwards ATM.

What? Bruno hasn't had as influential a season as Carrick had in 2013 and that came after several seasons that culminated in actual CL and PL wins. Bruno isn't close to Carrick as a player.

Bruno is not fit to lace Carrick's boots as a CM.

That's a little bit of revisionist history since I remember Carrick having some absolute stinkers mainly due to self confidence before his renaissance 2013 season.

Because Carrick won those titles on his own right, not with a team with the likes of evra, Rooney, Ronaldo, Vidic, Ferdinand right.
Bruno has ran De Bruyne quite closely since he arrived in the EPL and a lot of people claim De Bruyne may be one of if not epl best ever midfielder

I know they have very different playstyles, I think Bruno can rack up the same goals+assists as Kevin with a better striker in front of him. In the end that is what matters for a creative attacking mid, isn’t it?

Carrick was so good he struggled to get into the English midfield. Bruno is so bad he stars for Portugal in the world cup.

You do realise thats just your opinion. Like I said it's just my opinion that Scholes is better than Carrick and Carrick is better than Bruno. I would swap Bruno in a heartbeat for Carrick and play Mount as our 10.
I also rate Rashford and think he is the best most talented player we have.
It's all opinions.

The state of this place is pure madness. People ranting against Bruno and having a logic that is basically “he plays for United, then he must be shit”. The negativity here amazes me.

I know this post is a few days old, but Jesus fecking Christ we've come to a new low suggesting that Bruno is a superior player than Carrick. Yes, then don't have the same role, as properly noted here, but Carrick is a several levels above Bruno, whom I rate highly but he is no Carrick, who would walk into any side in the world today bar City. This is a De Gea thread so that's all I'll say about that.

True. Carrick was hammered all the time here for not being like scholes/keane. Carrick was underrated during his playing career but somehow he became overrated after retirement

Besides being completely different profiles, I don't think there are 'several levels' between them. Bruno is one of the best in the league and the world right now, and as much as I love Carrick, I don't think I've ever seen him drag the team to victory like bruno does. Maybe because he didn't have to, because he was surrounded by world class players and leaders.

Yeah I was only a spectator to the forum back then but he was definitely public enemy number one in here for a good while. Don't know where this "He'd currently start for any side in the world" talk comes from, he was good, would certainly start for us currently easily, but some are going on here like he was consistently at the level of Pirlo, Xavi or other great midfielders of that era, he had that in him from time to time but not as consistently as some are suggesting.

I think because for a period from 2010 till 2013 was a bit shaky. It didn't help that his partners at that time included Gibson, Cleverly, a usually unfit Anderson and an old Scholes and Giggs.

The suddenly in 2013 he was carrying the midfield alone and won us a league with RVP. He was stable the next years too, but the rest of the team was under performing so he seemed as a bright light.

But I would love to have a 2013 Carrick now, with Casemiro next to him and Bruno in front of him.

I have plenty memories of watching a game that was crying for a midfielder holding grip of the game, or even progress the ball in more effective way. Carrick could do that, unless there was pressure, in which case he was just passing it sideways or back to the defensive line.
Carrick was a good midfielder for us but that's it, he's also hugely overrated (by United fans) now.

If you want to discuss Carrick, please start a thread on him. I actually opened this wondering if there is an update on DDG, but it's just post after post about Carrick, Bruno, Rashford etc...

Other than acknowledging their different roles. I couldn’t disagree more. In the end, what made those two players who they are is their passing ability and prime Carrick is a much, much better passer than Bruno.
