Might be one of the worst performances I can remember for a while.

Let the shitting on a new signing commence!
Did you get hurt? He wasnt very good was he? Its a player performance thread, and he performed under par. Also made a completely unnecessary free kick that led to the goal.

But let's praise him!

Seems a bit thick. Lucky not to be sent off today flailing your arms around like that.

Solid player though. Would love to see him playing club football alongside Ounahi

I didn't think it was that bad. Most of the shitness was attached to his defensive work playing as a full back as well, it's not something that concern me overall for him. He's not a fecking full back is he, he's filling in. Anybody would expect a holding midfielder that isn't the quickest to struggle in the defensive aspects of full back play.

90% of the stuff he did out there was the exact same stuff he did in mid week and people thought was amazing. He did the same positional stuff, most of the same passing but not to quite the same sharpness.

Think most of this is the result coming into play. If we nick a win you wouldn't have this reaction to the performance at all.

Had a real tough game at left back, but the ref was also screwing him at every opportunity. Need one of our left backs to recover soon.

Didn’t take long for him to learn the Utd way of giving away stupid free kicks when opposition are going nowhere on the bye line

When posters are building up expectations in the summer before and post signing him thats what you're going to get whenever a player isnt as they suggested.

He might and hopefully will be much better next match especially starting in midfield instead of half playing there. But if you sell a player of Fred's level and only replace him with someone of the same of course there will be people dissappointed.

Fiorentina fans think he was one of their best players, so that's an odd take. By the way, he hasn't had a pre-season and also played left-back.
Your take was oddest of all, plenty were happy to see him go. Just own up to the fact that you didn’t watch him and move on. It’s all good. Post World Cup he’s had a bit of a mare.

Seems decent with possession. Seems a bit thick without it.

I think, the speed of the PL came a bit as a shock to him. He was clumsy, slow. I think, I have an idea why his defensive stats look the way they do and I am actually a bit worried, how he was able to get the progression stats. But on the other hand, he is a new player in a new league so don't want to be too harsh to him. The rest of the team wasn't good as well but I think, expectations should be managed.

Look at the replies you got in this thread. Your take along with your Liverpool sources were pathetic. You clearly didn't watch him if you thought he had a "mare". Jesus, do you even know what that word means?

At least he’s only on loan. If today is his level he can be sent back.

There were people who genuinely thought he would transform us as a team

He's an average player from a midtable team in Serie A. If he performs as good as Fred we should count ourselves lucky.

If EtH gets the sack, I hope we don't exercise the buy option. It'd be a very expensive loan but better than wasting another 20m.

You’re wrong again, Ekeke already highlighted how obtuse your takes were and when you actually watch the games instead of hyper focusing on a single stat you can see that Amrabat was exactly what he has always been since the WC.

If you want to go down the stats route, he’s in fact not much better than Fred in the last 6 months.

Now stop trolling, you haven’t watched him play much and that’s okay. He’s just not what you thought he was. He’ll improve though hopefully

The overhype on here was unreal. He's a backup because we lack bodies. That's all. No idea what made other managers think he could play left back. We aren't City.

Ekeke?! Someone who thinks Mandragora is a better player, despite almost every single Fiorentina fan wanting him out. Nice! Ironic how you're calling me a troll.

I never said he was a fantastic player. I said that he is a good fit for what we needed. We did not have someone that playmake from deeper midfield position next to Casemiro, and now we do. Playing him as a left back is doing him a massive disfavour, and you really shouldn't be using that as an argument.

I find it hard to judge him because he's not playing in the position we bought him for or need him in.

Someone needs to tell this Amrabat lad that using hands is not allowed in a football game.

In a game where our biggest problem was breaking down an organised defence, the problem you find is a CDM playing LB? am I missing something?

I think maybe coping and trying to justify his loan at the end of the window. When we signed him ETH noted he could appear as a fullback and before the game today he said "We think hes good defensively".

So with ETH's comments, I would assume he meant Right Back but if you can play one you should be okay at the other. I think he's 1 level up from an emergency leftback. A planned last resort and a theory on paper of playing the inverted fullback and being in central midfield when we have the ball. Just a question of what that really achieves. You might keep the ball better but what do you do with it? He certainly didnt offer a threat down the left to help the winger.

Still hopefully he's much better starting in midfield the next chance he gets to. But I think we saw some of his main limitations today, not very quick, not that strong defensively and his ideas are mostly 2 yard passes to the nearest player, or a long pass switch to the other side of the pitch.

He was bought for very low price in current market, so seems unfair to criticize him too much. I think he will be OK as a squad player. I also think many people mentioned he isn't that good off the ball and isn't a defensive midfielder.

I wouldn't worry that much, brings something else to the team on the ball and has some energy.

As was every single player of ours except Mount, so where does that leave us?
with a signing that is thankfully a loan in a string of poor signings for this club. But it’s early days in the season, I hope ETH can sort it out.

Watching his highlights videos a lot of the tackles and ball retrievals he had looked like fouls. Pushing into people from behind is one of his favourites. I guess he really is Mctominay’s replacement then.

At least there’s no obligation to buy with this one. If he’s shite just let him go back.

I know he is not a left back, but he was really poor today - our worst player actually.

1) He made far too many free kicks.

2) He almost never played the ball up the sideline, but constantly over the middle of the field.

3) He often positioned himself in central midfield (maybe ETH`tactic??). But here we already had 3 players, and it was overcrowded with United players. In addition, it meant that there was no overlap at all on the left side.

How is 10 million euros for a single season cheap? The loan + full fee is as much as Brighton's record transfer fee, for Joao Pedro and that only happened this summer. Before that it was 28.2 million euros for Moises Caicedo

What does he bring to the team on the ball?

The Fred replacement

He might end up a better player but he's far from the upgraded Fred we needed.

The man turns like a tree and is as slow as a carthorse. The midfield Maguire.

Takes a lot of time on the ball to make those passes as well. Plenty of times he went into the CB position forcing Lindelof to go LB pushing on, there was a point in the first half when Cas and he were at CB with Varane and Lindelof in midfield. So a lot of clutter and congestion in central areas.

Don't really see him and Cas as a natural pair either when he goes back to midfield, a bit pedestrian.

I guess he's not the transformational midfielder we've been looking for then?
His performance as a midfielder remains to be seen. Not going to be anytime soon by the looks of it. Of course, I doubt he is the saviour the Caf seems to think he is.
