Yeah, and the reason Barca can do that and not many other teams is due to the style and structure they play.

It never changes and is blooded through the players throughout the academy,
whereas United don't have that, certainly not currently, hence the reason any player walking into the first 11 currently underperforms.
Barcelona do have luxuries we don’t. United play in a ridiculously strong league compared to La liga which makes it harder to blood youngsters.

Sevilla is the argument people revert to, them and Madrid single handedly have saved La Liga’s reputation in recent years but can’t paper over the cracks forever.

We could well have won La liga last season so I don’t think the bar is that high all things considered.

At Bayern when things go horrible you finish 2nd… or Barcelona you finish 4th maybe... Their leagues are setup to make sure they can’t fail.

Ten Hag is starting to build this at United. He is also influencing the youth system. It takes a few years to show the results of this in the first teams. The likes of Mourinho wouldn't ever be setting up those kinds of structures.

Needs to start getting some game time.

He's probably the one truly world class player the team has.

I'd like to see him in the Eriksen role. Actually, its the role he played during pre season. It's a big ask, because you don't usually find young players in such a role, but I think he has the ability to do so.

Thirty one pages now, and he's still done nothing. He's fit and is not getting picked

He just turned 18, had two big injuries this year, why would he even play now on the basis on some u18 games, few pre season games. He's going to be amazing but he needs to be bedded in, not thrown in to save us. I hope we see a few min at Luton providing we can have a 2 goal cushion. Champs league may be too soon for him. I expect amrabat and mount to play then.

Like I said a few weeks ago I don't see when he's going to get games, even more so now every game is a must win.

What’s the point of this post by the way?

I don’t think you can say he’s fully fit. He’s not injured any more but after a long lay off it will be a while before he gets many first team minutes, surely? And even so, he is being named in the match day squads which is probably a sign that he is in the plans, to some extent, for the time being.

He looks a good prospect, don’t you think?

Let’s see how things go between now and January. I think he’ll start picking up minutes and if he impresses and gains ETH’s trust then the skies the limit. If not then maybe a loan in January to a top championship side might do him good. I’m sure Carrick and McKenna would be interested!

I keep saying this!

If you wait for us to accrue a 2-goal cushion to give them minutes then our young players aren't going to get many minutes in a season, and if they aren't getting many minutes, then they aren't going to develop. It's that simple.

People need to give up this golden freaking unicorn of an idea that kids will grow on breadcrumbs. At some point you're going to have to give them some damn competitive minutes.

It was the first time this season he has been fit enough to be included with the match day squad.

Chill!

With this lad, I’d like him to get a 90 or two in the 21s, due to the long injury lay off, but after that I’d love to see him start. Try him for 60 mins, I think we’ll get more out of him than if he’s coming on in the usual carnage near the end of games. I don’t see how two minutes here and there helps anybody.

He has shown nothing to suggest he's our saviour like most people in this thread have said.

He's a quality talent, but there's no competing with your saltiness
What's he shown to suggest he's quality? He played well for a kid in some friendlies. Sancho is pacey and creative in friendlies btw. But what's he shown in competitive football? Nothing.

Perhaps there were more disparaging comments. However, Mainoo is not to be dismissed. I've seen a lot of posters undermining his talent and current ability. Yet it is very apparent that he is someone worth holding out hope for.
It’s a reference to what caused this thread to get so funny in the first place. The poster who said there was no reason Mainoo couldn’t match Bellingham.

Luton game at home is a good opportunity for Mainoo to play.
We need the points in these games. We badly need to stack up wins. We should play the strongest possible team. I understand some people think that includes this guy, but we should play what eth thinks is the strongest team

Agreed in that sense. I'm not expecting a goal a game from Mainoo. However, I'm not expecting a goal a game from Frenkie De Jong. Kobbie Mainoo is a very different type of player to Jude Bellingham. Though Mainoo is very talented and can seriously contribute to this current United side if given the opportunity.

He is changing things here and there in order to make the system work. The strongest on paper is apparently not the strongest on the pitch since the season started. ETH knows it and everyone knows it.
