No Europa isn't a blessing. Winning Europa literally gets qualification to next season's CL. There's no guarantee a top 4 or 5 spot is guaranteed with the amount of teams fighting for CL spots now. This is a total failure.

I kept hearing what a big game this was in the build-up. On paper, maybe, but I've rarely gone into a so-called crunch game feeling less interested, and the team certainly backed up that feeling with a complete non-event of a performance.

This CL campaign has been absolutely dreadful. We've made Copenhagen and Galatasary look like decent CL teams, when with all due respect no proper side with designs on doing anything in this competition should worry about getting past them in a group and would be turning cartwheels when drawing either of them in the Ro16.

It's a chore following this mob at the moment, disappointing and embarrassing in equal measure (less games to bother with now though, yay!).

A 0-1 loss at home against Bayern is a huge and positive result for this team. Half on here would most likely feel that we did well today to only lose by one. Yeah... THAT is where we are now as a club.
Let's be honest bayern wasn't even trying. The team struggled to motivate itself properly after already going through group stage early, same as against Copenhagen.

The table doesn't lie. We got what we deserved. We didn't go out solely because we lost tonight. We went out because we played badly more often than we play well over the span of six games. As late as about an hour into the game in Istanbul we still had a great chance to progress. We didn't.

We can blame referees, we can blame mistakes, we can reach for all sorts of excuses. However, if over the course of six games you can't get it done, that's not coincidence that's your level. We are not good enough for the Champions League and we'd probably get battered by the first good Europa League team we would have faced. As Liverpool may demonstrate at the weekend.

Just glad there won't be Europa League football for us yet again come February (we wouldn't win it in the end). Think it'll only be 3rd time over last few decades where we won't play European football in 2nd part of the season spring (05/06, 14/15 where we had no European football at all). Didn't watch the game and seems like Bayern just did enough to win although they didn't really care.

4 losses, a draw in Turkey after being 2-0 and 3-1 up and one 1-0 win vs Copenhagen at home where Onana had to save penalty to save us those 3 points. Terrible, terrible CL campaign, even worse than 15/16 and 20/21 seasons.

Highly doubt that with the uncertainty surrounding the timeline of when INEOS are coming in. We were already doing loan deals for players towards the end. Add to it the FFP issues at the club already and now absolutely no European football.
The takeover won’t stop signings, sancho on his way out along with what seems like martial and possibly varane will clear up a lot of options.

Only 3 teams have lost more games than us this season
Union Berlin
Almeira
Burnley

no English team has ever conceded 15 in the round of 16.

it’s clear we need new signings, if we are smart we offload the big wage non performing stars to Saudi, and startfresh with moneyball signings, youngsters with a shit ton of pace and a shit ton to prove.

Don't even feel that disappointed, just a bit numb.

At least the players put in some decent effort-workrate wasn't an issue tonight- but my god the lack of quality in the attacking positions . It shouldn't be shocking as we've got two very raw kids playing but that was woeful! Garnacho and Hojlund were putting effort in but giving the ball away for fun, Antony keeps the ball well and occasionally links well with an overlapping fullback but offers zero threat or chance creation and Bruno wasn't at the races.

Can't believe the set up of this club sometimes that we went into this season with that attack. At least get an experienced striker to help out Hojlund FFS.

Hargo was talking a bit of bollox about us missing Rashford, but one absolute truth he mentioned was the clear problems that we have in the recruitment department when compared to Bayern who appear near flawless. It's like United got the UK Brexit negotiators!

Don't want to harp on about it in here because it's not the thread for it, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Its absolutely shocking and some achievement to be fourth in a group with Gala and Copenhagen and at any serious club would have Ten hag sacked by tomorrow morning. We were just not playing the same sports today, the gulf in class and the technical ability of their forwards against our players was soo apparent. The worse part is we could have gotten Kane and Kim and were favorites for both. Both completely dominated us today and showed what we missed out.

The only silver lining is, this may result in sacking of Ten hag which he deserves for spending 400M and coming up with this shit team with Westham and Everton level players and not getting Europa League.

Nothing offered whatsoever. Garnacho had a stinker. Mainoo looked classy in his short cameo.
Hard luck on Maguire with the injury.
Hope we don’t get hammered by the scouse.

I’ve no idea what our second half game plan was. Played like we were content to only lose 1-0.

You really didnt look like you really wanted to score.
We didnt play that good either but defended well (Upamecano and Kim were really good) and one moment of brilliance in attack.

Good luck for the rest of the PL season.
(if you plan to sack Ten Hag take a look at Sebastian Hoeneß from Stuttgart)

2008 to 2011 United reached 3 champions league finals in 4 years. So mediocre in the Champions league since then.

Losing is great, does anyone really think United can win this? Without mid week games, let's see if Erik can spend more time with players preparing for league games. If we continue to suck, Erik will be gone in the summer. Everything is perfect, no more excuses from this Pep Guardiola is my idol.

Liverpool will be licking their lips at the prospect of the hammering they'll give us on Sunday; I cant see any other possible outcome and with Maguire and Shaw both doubtful that just about puts the tin lid on it. If there's any slim possibility we might avoid humilation I cant see it, we have a "team" who not only are not good enough but theyre also lazy, arrogant and unable to make the right decision and retain focus. Last season we capitulated to a humiliating 7-0 defeat, this time it could be worse, and Im not going to bet against us losing by double figures. I never, ever thought Id feel like this or say words likes these but this is not the Manchester United I grew up with, both on the pitch and off.

Did you see that Rondo clip? I don't know how I feel about more time on the trianing ground if that's what they do there. We've all seen a version of this in life before. Where we all know it's not working, but certain factors stop all sides admitting it and moving on. Good thing is eventually the moving on happens. Just with a lot of heartache that could have been prevented early on.

Because since Messi and Ronaldo cupled with Instagram reels and stories, somehow every player in every team needs to match ungodly standards of football.

Dalot made some good vertical passes in the first half which Bruno and the rest fecked up.

It has been a terrible CL campaign, and luckily we are going to avoid that next season.

That goal Bayern scored was the perfect example of why you don’t play McTominay as a CM.. he made two half assed attempts to win the ball on the edge of our box during the play that led to their goal. And he did nothing else for 90 minutes.

The commentators were going on about big improvement from Bournemouth. I was impressed during the first half as we kept the ball. But as the second half went on I became disgusted. We did not look like a team that needed to win.

Only bright spot was Onana finally doing a “playmaker keeper” pass. I would say our overall passing and ball retention was great but most likely Bayern were in second gear.

Biggest concern manager seems to just accept it. Players don’t seem shocked we’re out.

A loss at home with zero shots on target should never be considered a decent performance, let alone "very good". Standards are as low as they can possibly go.

You uncovered the fact that Dominic Raab and Steve Barclay have worked for our club.

A flat performance, when we needed a win. Everything is going wrong just now, with even more injuries.
Finishing bottom of that group just isn’t on. Of course Onana cost us points, but it’s never the responsibility of one player; most of them underperformed.
It’s a difficult and depressing time for the club, and going out of Europe so early will cost us a lot of money too. Anfield next, so things are likely to get worse before they get better.
Let’s hope 2024 brings improvement.
Bad times.
