So in summary the massive burning straw man you have constructed means we should ignore Greenwood's despicable behaviour and welcome him back. Gotcha.
Yes. Amazing how we hold football players to a higher standard than we hold ourselves.

Its also amazing, fans sing about 'going on the piss with George Best', worshipped and idolised yet has a long history of alcoholism and Domestic Violence against women.

Nice one....

Do you think assuming that people in general shouldn't violently assault and attempt to rape their partners constitutes unrealistic expectations?

Speak for yourself. I think most people do not condone rape regardless of whether they are good at kicking a ball or not...

Grelaish got pissed during a lockdown party then pranged his car and did one.

He's a lad though so it's all shitz and gigglez.
You’ll be accused of whataboutery but fact is, drink driving is a conscious decision to put every other person on the roads life in jeopardy. Personally have a 0 booze policy if I’m driving so have never understood people’s inability to not drink when out.

Grealish’s crime, for his benefit, ended up being victimless - not sure he’d be let off so easily had he hurt/killed someone.

Only one person was prosecuted in the eyes of the law between Grealish & Greenwood. . .

then we would not have our best players in history:
cme of things.
George Best - perpetual wife beater and cheater
Eric Cantona - kung fu kicked a boy in front of the world
Ryan Giggs - (we all know what he did)
Cristiano Ronaldo - allegedly raped a girl in the USA (case not dropped and money paid so there is some chance the accusation is valid, unlike those van persie/evans false rape claims), an arrogant and selfish guy anyway
Wayne Rooney - cheated on his wife multiple times
David Beckham - cheated on his wife at least once

Pele was also a wife cheater and Maradona was a criminal
Cheating on the wife or partner cannot be counted, or 90% of the past and present players shouldn't be playing for United then.

Its just not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Its 2023.

I think if they are proven to have done it....

Reads as if we’re willing to give him another chance if this is being rejected

Getafe's record transfer cost 12 million euros. It is very unlikely that they offered 40 million pounds for Mason Greenwood.

This whole thread, and the wider reaction of a lot of Utd fans to Greenwood's "exile", is a horrific insight into what some people regard as minor error of judgement - he "made a mistake". Often accompanied by "his missus has forgiven him so...".

But he didn't "make a mistake", he violently assaulted, and was then accused of raping, a woman. The fact that she's decided to stay in a relationship with him shouldn't be held against her, but also doesn't remotely exonerate him. He's lucky he's not serving time in prison, and I still don't want him anywhere near the club no matter how well he plays in Spain, or how badly our forwards perform.

Yep, neither do I. Equally Im not going to base my view on something that I dont know if its true or not.....and thats got nothing to do with whether he can kick a football or not.

Absolutely. As well as a disturbing trend of 'well, football X did Y and is still playing for his side, so...' which totally ignores the fact that a) it doesn't make it right, and b) that we don't have to follow suit and go down that morally murky (at best) route.

The only thing I disagree with is that you say he raped her. We don’t know if he followed through on his disgusting threat. You should amend that

I agree its paper rubbish, Getafe could never even afford his wages. I should hope the ridiculous 20% sell on fee for them is also rubbish

I’m presuming that they do but don’t know for sure
Which is exactly why the deal was a farce in the first place.

The fact the higher ups hadn’t planned for this possibility is beyond me. Getafe should feel lucky to have him & that’s that. Deal should have been written that they get him on loan & feck all else.

The court of RedCafe seems to think he did. I think I'll go with the CPS as they have evidence and context.
Like said, many will idolise George Best, sing songs about 'going on the piss' yet alcoholism by his own admission lead him to violently assault women.

Why not shut this stupid retreaded thread down? Its just dumb -- either people have dementia and are rehashing the same ol' points but have forgotten them; or many people are projecting or virtue signalling.

Just open up his performance thread again.

Nobody will pay 100 million for him. Anything 50 and up we should jump at imo. Good riddance.
I'd challenge that. From his time at Getafe its clear uproar in signing him in Spain wouldn't be that strong, I'd assume similar for most of Europe (taking England out of it for the moment). If a club has decided that they have no issue with signing him then they should pay what he is worth. The only reason I could see for reduced prices is that a club may not be able to monetise him as much as a normal player. Not commenting on the severity or lack of severity of the incident but there are players who have been transferred and moved around as normal who have also had legal issues etc. I don't think we would get the 100-150mil that I'd say he would be worth normally however I could see us getting over 70/80 for him and the more he does well at Getafe the more confident I'd get.

I’ve trimmed your quote down as the rest of it was irrelevant but how can you compare what Eric did to what Greenwood was accused of?

He was racially abused by a Palace fan, who was not a boy as you put it but a 36 year old man. He reacted with violence which I don’t think anyone would say was the correct thing to do and was duly punished.
But for the record the 36 year old “boy” was convicted of abusing Eric, and attacked his lawyer in court which got him a prison sentence and a stadium ban.

Eric assaulted a xenophobic scumbag, Greenwood allegedly assaulted and tried to rape his teenage girlfriend. They are not the same.

I never said anyone was threatening to resign. I was responding to the guys line of thought on making people who disagree with greenwood coming back to be put in the redundant list. Completely and utterly illegal.
that’s all
Agreed.

Very few clubs outside of England can afford a 70m transfer.

OK so your point is our society now condemns this kind of behaviour, I agree and I would say this was the case even in the 60s - DV is not right.

However, we still celebrate the likes of George Best as a legend of this club to the current day and even have a statue of him in front of OT. So we reject one wife beater who is currently employed at the club and have a statue for another, but that's OK because he's a former player and a heck of a player at that - I just personally think that's a bit hypocritical if we are trying to present ourselves as a champion of women's rights?

I think everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves. The player in question spent two years away from football, if we want to pursue financial penalties as well sure we can give his entire two years of earnings to a DV charity, make him apologise for his behaviour in public and issue a joint statement with his partner - serve additional time away from football as well if he wants to play in the premier league, or even make him contribute half of his future earnings at Manchester United to a DV charity if he wants to play for United. Other than that, there is nothing else Manchester United can demand from him (If they want to keep him, or of course they can get rid of him) given his partner doesn't want to press charges, and if they are also not willing provide an explanation for what happened should we not let the club execs decide whether he plays or not (Based on what the internal investigation revealed), and also respect whatever decision they make, and also not pressure them towards making a certain type of decision that sits favourably with a certain side of the fanbase (Based on evidence for which the fanbase does not have full context)?

I'm not trying to be a contrarian for the sake of it and I will respect whatever decision the club makes in the end - just saying that this is not a black and white issue as is the case with many things in this world.
Well said

This is what happens when you have higher ups with no backbone. They literally had a whole roll out plan for his reintegration into the squad. And they allowed themselves to get punked out of the plan by a journalist and famous fan. Haven't seen such spineless action this decade. Anything after that isn't surprising, they were probably happy to see him on the plane to Spain and didn't mind the 20% cut to Getafe.

And if you ask me, the 20% is well deserved. Getafe took a toxic asset and cleaned it up somewhat. There was risk involved in that, and very few clubs would take that risk on without some sort of reward down the line. As it stands, they get a talented player in their roster for a year for free, and they get 20% on any future sale. Without this loan, United would have been forced to play him, pay out his contract and lose out on resale value, or let his contract run out and lose out on resale value. The loan is a win win even with the 20%.

Talks of him fetching 100m are a pipedream. Unless a bidding war starts (it won't), whoever is buying will smell our desperation to sell, and underbid accordingly. 50m would be fantastic.

I agree very few can afford that and Greenwood is a player only very few should be able to afford. The question is how much the incident has lowered that bar, I don't think its as low as some on here are suggesting. If there was a bigger uproar outside of England then I'd agree. If Madrid want him for example I'd be disappointed if we settled for 40mil.

But the world knows that we want rid. Couple that with the fact that he's far from the finished article and has had disciplinary issues and he's not exactly a safe bet. No chance he goes for 100 million.
Everyone in the world knows we want rid and after months of average we have a 40m bid… yeah I do think if he gets back to his best we are going to see big bids for him (if we sell him)

George Best, Ronaldo, Butt, Giggs, Alonso and Mike fecking Tyson(?!) have all done horrible things and shouldn't be celebrated. If they were playing now I wouldn't want any of them at the club.

I hope this makes it easier for the weirdos who keep bringing them up.

This is definitely not a confirmed bid. It's pretty unlikely getafe would afford that.
