I am not even sure why I will be watching the match. I don't care if we win or lose, just want to see some coherent football rather than this hole in midfield. I guess I am an addict and a masochist to boot

    Hoping to see:

    ---------------------------------Bayindir----------------------------
    Dalot------------Varane-----------------Martinez------------Shaw
    ----------------------Mainoo----------Casemiro---------------
    Anthony----------------------Bruno---------------------Garnacho
    -----------------------------------Hojlund----------------------------------

I expect this will probably be the team (Onana will start though). I can't see Rashford starting as it sends an awful message.

Would be lovely to just play well for once and get a comfortable win. I'm worried about Cunha and Neto though. They way the carry the ball could cause us nightmares with the aps we leave in midfield.
I like Garnacho more from the right, it looks like he moves more on that side and our right side seems to work better with him there. But I have no idea who we should play on the left then, seems strange to start Rashford and even if he starts he is really bad on the left this season.

Yea, I has the same dilemma.

We don't swap wingers much in games. I'd quite like to see Garnacho and Anthony swap wings a couple of times tonight to see where they each get the most joy.

Yep I posted this the other day. I dont pretend to be a great tactician but surely giving the full backs something different to think about would be good....

And it would stop Antony being able to cut inside and gently drift a ball curling wide + over the bar quite as often.

I expect us to be beaten convincingly. Erik is a 2nd rated manager who doesn't have any tactical knowledge to beat Wolves.

That's pretty bold. Have we had a comfortable league win this season yet?
I always said that our injuries this season have crippled our performances. Now we have our first teamers back I expect better performances thus better results.

United it seems don't have money to sack him and get interim manager in place in terms of FFP , what might happen if situation worsens even further he would be put on gardening leave and either of his current assistant would take charge .
Give it to Giggsy (but don't pay him) till the end of the season

Well, I hope you are right. Having looked at the games, I'd say Everton (A) 3-0 was our only comfortable win this season. I'd be surprised if we get another one.

And even that game we were outplayed for most of it and were lucky not to concede a few.

It was one of the most blatant penalties you'll ever see. A mark against VAR. Wolves have had it rough this season.

We've gotten away with a few penalties this season.

Lisandro could easily have given away one for what he did to Romero vs Spurs. Although we should have also gotten one for a handball by Romero in the same game. Maguire got away with a clear shove on McAtee vs Sheffield Utd.
There's a lot going on in that incident, but the first foul is clearly on AWB who can't jump because he's being held down.

In real time, it looks bad. But the Wolves defenders essentially collide with each other and that is what results in the ball spooning up in the air. After that, Onana cleans out one of the Wolves players. So there is fault on both sides, consistent with any 50/50.

But the first offence is the foul on Wan-Bissaka, so it renders the whole debate as to who was more at fault irrelevant.

Even in the Wolves game itself we had a stonewall penalty denied when a Wolves defender saved a Rashford's goalbound header. That was a much more obvious penalty, especially as it was probably going in.

The general narrative that we see is that the media make a huge song and dance about any decision that goes our way, but fall silent about those where we don't have the rub of the green. How is the Semedo handball any less controversial than the Onana incident? That was a goalbound effort, conveniently just so happening to hit a defender's arm. Ultimately, the narrative about Onana getting away scot free works better for them than the random Wolves player.

Ten Hag probably needs to win 12 if the last 17 games to save his job, this is a must win. He has his squad, now he must produce.
He'll like likely lose 6, wiin 8 and draw the rest.
And for those thinking that if he loses this match, he will lose his job - absolutely not!
Standards are now so low that a manager can take over, spend £0.4Bn in 2 seasons, finish mid table and he'll still get a pat on the back.

If Ten Hag doesn't start Mainoo with Casemiro, so we have stable midfield, we are 99% losing this game.

Sad fact is - even if he does so, there are ton of vulnerabilities we have - Onana, toothless attack, you name it
Starting Mainoo with Casemiro is irrelevant if he's using the same tactics.

I hope we can win today and win comfortably. No real excuses now, except maybe getting the routines in now.

Yeah, the injury crisis was my excuse for the bad team performances, but the team is fit now and it's time to put my money where my mouth is.

It was never in a million years a penalty, the ball had already been headed back across goal before the collision and the player Onana collided with wasnt the one who headed it.

Also as VAR correctly stated it was an accidental collision and they dont give penalties for those.

Technically it will take long term injury players time to get to full fitness. But I understand why this won’t be an accepted reason if the don’t hit the ground running.

I hope I have the serenity to stay out of here if we lose or draw. I’d say it will be carnage.

I think it’s the promise of something dramatic or different or sh*t. From a dopamine point of view anything that gets our hearts racing (even anger) is kind of exciting.

This is a narrative that some fans run with. It's not just this season. It's 2023 as a whole. We lost 21 games in 2023.

    Arsenal 3-2 Man Utd
    Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd
    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton
    Newcastle 2-0 Man Utd
    Man Utd 2-2 Sevilla
    Sevilla 3-0 Man Utd
    Spurs 2-2 Man Utd
    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd
    West Ham 1-0 Man Utd
    Man Utd 1-2 City

We had a lot of the players who missed parts of this season available for the above results last season.

Apart from Hojlund, we played with ten Hag's preferred XI on the opening day of the season vs Wolves at home. They cut through us like a hot knife through butter for most of the game. A fortunate win. A sign of things to come.

We played a weakened Spurs team a few weeks ago with almost a week to prepare for the game. Yet we were poor again and managed to blow a lead twice.

Then we had 2 full weeks off to prepare/rest ahead of Newport. We made hard work of that one and threw away a 2 goal lead. ten Hag had close to his full squad back for it.

The reality is that we have been out form for almost a full 12 months. We might improve by 5-10% with Shaw and Lisandro back. That's still only going to lead to around 65 points at best. We're lucky to even be on 31 points. Our xPts is 24.79 at present.

We're simply a bad team and have been for awhile.

One thing im interested to see is Rashfords reaction, whether he starts or comes off the bench

You may right be in the end but having Casemiro, Lisandro and Shaw out for long periods has been massive. Their replacements just aren't very good.

Having Rashford MIA for most of the season is also huge.

Persisting with Antony who just isn't good enough is a choice and one I can't understand.

Some fans are too biased to admit their team got away with one. Most United fans would be fuming if we didn't get a penalty at the other end.

Jon Moss actually apologised to Gary O'Neill after the game.

This is why VAR isn't full-proof. It's open to interpretation.

    Casemiro isn't very good anymore.

He had a few months of good form last season, but was on the wane by the end of it. ten Hag's tactics don't help the situation.

Good points, yet I do feel our season still hasn't even begun. New season, new chances and I feel alot more confident with the Mainoo-Casemiro pairing in midfield, our preferred back four back and having a real no. 9 striker upfront instead of Martial.

Martial has somehow been the most prolific ST of the ten Hag era with 11 goals compared to Ronaldo who scored 3 goals, Weghorst who scored 3 goals, and Hojlund who has scored 8 goals so far.

This suggests that being a ST in a United side coached by ten Hag isn't easy.
