Obviously there's a difference. They both point to bad refereeing by Tierney (and the VAR team) in two different respects. And the latter is worse, I can't argue that. He also misapplied that rule earlier in the game, so he's clearly a bad ref.

Materially, it was lucky that poor decisions balanced themselves out over the course of the game. As I said, you want competence. But balanced incompetence is at least the next best option.
Jesus. You lot are hard work. It’s okay to acknowledge it was a terrible decision and it went in your favour without making false equivalences.

You’d get more respect that way.

Paul Tierney should be allowed near a ref's whistle again like I should be allowed near the nuclear codes! And clearly the guy working VAR for the Forest game had popped out for a piss!

His foot was head height of a jumping Konate and Kelleher. It's textbook dangerous play and it should have been foul and a potential red card even missing contact.

The refereeing team messed up by not reviewing that with VAR and then they messed up the drop ball rule. Luckily those decisions balanced out.
VAR did look at it, they check everything as the game goes (and replays), they tell the ref if they think he missed something.

They checked this one even more because they looked to see if it was a penalty.

So the ref, linesman and VAR all made a decision. Not foul play, not a pen, so move on…

…. head injury, blow the whistle, drop the ball to last team, who has it (as outside the box), per the laws. A black and white law, not a discretionary one

PS.

If the argument is “something else happened first, so the drop ball is irrelevant”, then presumably that applies to the foul before it because… that happened first?

But VAR looked at that (looks a foul to me) and didnt give it. They looked at the Forest player challenge and didn’t give it (because the view from the other side shows Kelleher hitting Konate).

So we either go with ref/VAR on all discretionary laws and expect them to follow black and white laws OR we’re picking and choosing which laws should be applied and which situation to go back to (regardless of ref/linesman/VAR saying otherwise) which seems to be really one sided. “I want the ref to make my decisions and go back to the event that I think is important. And I want him to ignore non discretionary laws”

So we’re happy the ref/VAR got the penalty call wrong (event 1) but glad they mucked up a non discretionary law (event 3) because I think they mucked up event 2?

Two wrongs do not make a right. And the last wrong was a potential title decider.
But that's the point. It was not an egregious mistake, just a minor one blown out of proportion due to the circumstances of when and who it happened to.

The moaning. The ref blew the whistle with the Forrest player outside the box. If the Forrest player was inside the box the ball goes to Liverpool. It was a mistake. He just blew the whistle a little late. Meanwhile Forrest had two yellow cards for time wasting. Forrest also couldn’t clear a ball at their feet. Get over it. Move on.

When Mike Dean admits a mistake in favour of them then it must be pretty bad.
It's really bad when you start listening to anything Mike Dean has to say. A full re-evaluation of one's existence is required.

Anyway back to that red card challenge on Konate. Will the FA be sending a retrospective punishment to Forest? That was literally life threatening.

Just like the mistake when you played Spurs.

Liverpool got over that quickly and didn’t say a thing did they?

That was a goal wrongly called offside. This is called a false restart. I’ve done it and so have other refs. There was two minutes of play after that. It meant nothing.

It was a ‘mistake’. Just like you described. Both decisions were objectively wrong.

Why didn’t you just get on with in instead of calling for a replay and threatening alsorts?

This is the problem. When it happens to Liverpool there are giant headlines in media, revolt everywhere and there is talk about integrity of the game from your club. Every single decision before that game against Tottenham and after that game, you have got everything from referees and VAR. So why didn't your club "get over it" when it happened once to you?

Everybody know that you have been very, very lucky with referees and VAR couple of years now. Maybe you can answer why that is.

There might have been a tad bit overreaction to the goal disallowed at Spurs. But again it was a goal called back incorrectly.
Yesterdays decision had nothing to do with us scoring. A false restart can be called 20 min earlier. Same thing. Let’s drop it and concentrate on the City match.

Yes let’s drop it and move on quickly.

The refs have been actively helping Liverpool win this league since the spurs feck up.

It was the best thing that happened to them this season. They gained a lot from it

If the ball hadnt have been incorrectly given to you lot you wouldnt have scored, if the ball had have been given back to Forest like it should have been they might well have scored.

Why are the ref and VAR allowing City to get away with loads of niggly fouls where they don’t even touch the ball, but blow for a foul immediately against United?

It might be because the UAE are flying EPL referee out to officiate 5-a-side games for half their annual salary?
Liverpool with Klopp being the equivalent of the "Messi world cup" stitch up, or Man City with their owners' influence...
It's the classic immovable force meeting an immovable object, something has to give though.

If it was wrestling, they'd orchestrate a scenario where they both finish joint on every single aspect and share the title.

Can anyone explain how that “shoulder barge” from Varane was any different to the barge on Rashford that definitely wasn’t a penalty midweek?

Liverpool get an easy ride because of the media pressure attached to anything remotely contentious against them arising out of their victim mentality, and Klopp's embarrassing antics.

Absolutely. Tierney isn't a good ref at all.

But short of expecting them to be competent, incompetence that balances out is the best alternative.
People always say it balances out but what's this based on? It's just copium as far as I can see.

What evidence is there that every team is disadvantaged by bad decisions in the same way over a season?

In and outside of the box is the obvious answer

Edit even though it shouldn't be

Nah that can’t be right, people were explaining how it doesn’t matter where it happens it was a fair challenge. Just stronger innit

Spoiler: Rashford plays for
Be hold on the shoulder is weak from Rashford but a shoulder to shoulder contact between Varane and Haland is a yellow
Walker trips him too. It wasn't just a shoulder. It was a foul and VAR review for DOGS opportunity. Klopp will be calling for a replay to maintain the integrity of the game.

You missed my edit for what it's worth. It's the only explanation I can see, a higher threshold for a pen

Guarantee not a word about it in any of the mainstream coverage. Unlike our correctly given onside in the derby last January.
This will be our 11th lost game. More than half of them is because of ridiculous and shocking decisions. Our club just stats silent and not a word for those in leading position. Like they don’t care.

Today? Rashford should have freekick and they score after. Garnacho should have penalty and they score after. It can’t be more clear than that.
Neither were fouls. We're have a lot worse decisions go against us this season.

That’s one of those penalty shouts that will never pass the clear and obvious test. He got the ball, the reckless / excessive force follow through needs a higher threshold for VAR to turn it over. Nobody got injured as far as they are concerned

Just because they were worse cases it doesn’t mean that This is nothing. Clear as day. Our club should demand investigations about why we are treated like we are.

So next time someone takes ball first with studs up and hits player it is good tackel. I would agree if that was always the case. It is not.

It wasn't a penalty. Rashford... it probably should've been a free kick but it was such a pathetic dive on his part.
