F1 2024 Season

There's about 4 above Max that are dubious to make the start, and will likely be in the pit lane at best so his position isn't that compromised as it appears

There’s no point getting into a negative mindset pre race about red flags etc, he’s got a good car for these conditions and he’s one of the best there’s ever been in these conditions. The win is still on for him IMO.

Depending on what happens with Stroll and Alonso Lewis could end up starting 11th and Max 13th.
Fascinated how George and Lewis will end up finishing close to each other somehow, someway once again.

Plus he already did a magical overtake race at Interlagos before.

It had a wheel missing mate.

Regardless of Verstappen it was a strange decision.

I'm not really a fan of Max by the way, I'm somewhat neutral I don't particularity follow any driver/team. This isn't me trying to make excuses for Verstappen..
No it wasnt actually, a bent one though. Stroll obviously wouldnt have known it at the time so was still trying.

Anyways a Red Flag a few seconds earlier wouldn't have really mattered here

How would it work if WIlliams gave Colapinto's car(assuming they can fix it) to Albon? Would he start 7th(where he qualified), or 18th where Colapinto qualified? Basically, is the qualifying place tied to the car or the driver?

In that image it looks to be just bent but if you watch the replay it's moving around as he comes to a stop.

Just caught up with qually, that was excellent watch. Lance Stroll away from the crash, we all know shouldn't be in F1. He was impeding drivers in Q1 and Q2.

Pirelli's extreme wets have been criticsed for being crap all season. They need to improve that tyre.

Should be a interesting race, I think max can make the podium, even the race win if it's a wet race. It's so unpredictable.

Shame for Hamilton that the car is so awful, but Russell went P2, so he only has himself to blame (though they are both running different spec floors this weekend).

Tied to the driver. I think this scenario has happen in the past, a long time ago, I think with Jordan F1 team, but I might be wrong.

Which is fair as we've seen drivers make the thing rotate in such conditions. Anyways just seen on twitter Alonso and Sainz incidents took about 18-19 seconds to bring out the flag, neither would have helped Verstappen out.

Its just Red Bull being silly and trying to deflect

Genuinely can’t agree that it was excellent. The end sure. But as a whole, for me it’s a joke that the cars are so undriveable in those conditions.

Ironic, considering he's benefited from a few significant ones himself.

Maybe Max is not the FIA's untouchable golden boy any more?
I think people thought Max was different - but ultimately it’s the same. They’re all the golden boy until they aren’t. Putting aside my enjoyment that it’s now happening to Max, it’s farcical F1 operates like this. It is now, just as much as it was when Max was getting all the favours. It undermines the entire sport.

Blame FIA. They came up with the ground effect rules which are affected by bumps, wind, or a random butterfly flapping its wings in Japan.

Also blame FIA for not getting pirelli to create a extreme wet tyre that actually works.

Lots of us have been watching F1 80s and 90s and seen the drivers drive in worse conditions than these and keep the cars on track.

I totally agree.

F1 lost all credibility for me in that dodgy final race call for Max over Hamilton in their contested championship.

It continues to lose credibility now showing bias towards Lando over Max. Probably because a new champion or closer battle would increase interest in the "sport". It is barely a sport any more though.

Only 1:34 left on clock when stroll crashed, even if the red flagged it there and then. Max would still be out of Q3.

I doubt anyone in those conditions on a warm up lap straight out of the pits would come out, in traffic and get across the line before the time ran out.

Fernando Alonso: "The truth is that I was coming for Pole. So it hurts"

"When you have an opportunity like today, you try to do as much as possible. I was eight tenths better than in Q2".

Verstappen could start P14 or P13 as Hamilton just said in a interview he wants to start from pitlane (so they can make setup changes).

If it’s wet (and it obviously will be), Hamilton will need to have changes to his car. It literally wasn’t turning in sector 2. He was like 2 seconds off the pace alone in that sector.

Williams just issued a statement, they are intending to get both cars onto the grid for the start of the race.

Will be amazing if they pull that off especially for Albion

Just as we all thought, RedBull talking bollocks about water cooling tyres.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/...amid-f1-tyre-cooling-trick-intrigue/10670080/

"...Pirelli has seen no evidence of anything unusual in how teams are running their tyres amid the latest tech intrigue in F1 over a potential water cooling trick..."

"..Pirelli itself says that, following its chats with the FIA, it is more than happy to do anything it can to help any probe – but says that initial analysis has not pointed to anything untoward taking place.

Mario Isola, its head of F1 and car racing, said: “I cannot see anything strange from the data we have. I don't have any evidence..."

Watch them not pit lane start Hamilton, something is clearly up with his car because it looked positively evil. Fair play to George hauling it to 2nd, but they can’t be working from the same parts or setup configuration.

If Hamilton is 2 seconds off in the wet, something isn’t right.

Max in a massive strop in that interview, wonder if his team will tell him to go chill, we know what he's like when he's cross. Or will they add to the poor Max narrative and fuel him more

I have a feeling he may win, he's excellent in the wet, but needs to keep his cool

I'm hoping for a DNF to keep the championship exciting

Great qualifying to watch to be fair. Lots of drama and a bit of a jumbled up grid as a result.

Super annoying there's so much overlap between the race an our game today though. If we even get a race. Lando will be hoping we do of course.

They aren't running the exactly the same parts. They are running the same floor, not the Silverstone one but the Austin floor. However changes have been made floors between both cars as Mercedes wanted to experiment this weekend with the floor (if it was dry) as something is causing random airflow disconnect between the floor and beam wing, so they are getting random snap oversteer.

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/m...re committed, works on improving its stability.

This was an issue Ferrari had before the summer break and they had to reduce the downforce the floor created as the current mechanical suspension couldnt cope. So they are rebuilding their rear suspension geometry in the off-season and will go a push rod rather than pull rod suspension. McLaren, Redbull etc, all run push rod suspension.

A DNF for Verstappen and a Norris win, cuts the lead down to 18points, with 3 races to go and one being a sprint.

That will make the remaining 3 races the most tense F1 races since 2021 season.

I'm a pretty casual F1 fan so I don't really know where to turn for news in a wacky race weekend like this one.

Do we know what the odds are looking like of us getting a full race/any race/Spa 2-laps-behind-SC-farce or is it all still up in the air?

Lewis seems to start also from the pitlane due to setup changes according to Simon Lazenby.
