Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach | Thread locked during matches

Sorry this will be a fecking rant, but what on earth has Amorim walked into (barring the multimillion pound a year contract)???

I hate this group of players, both (barring 1 or 2) and collectively. I don’t think I’d be upset if ANY of them got sold.

  • Onana: ‘Fine’ but is such a confidence player. I couldn’t object to selling
  • Yoro: Won’t sell. He’s clearly got talent but I’m not seeing why Real / Liverpool etc were after him.
  • De Ligt: Up and down, won’t be sold
  • Maguire: has shown some balls recently, so will probably get a 1yr trigger then a new 5yr deal
  • Lindelof: Leaving on a free
  • Evans: 10yrs too old, leaving on a free
  • Martinez: a shell of his former self or even the player of the FA Cup final. Honestly wouldn’t shed a tear if he was sold for the right amount
  • Mazraoui: keep. Should probably only be a squad player but…
  • Dalot: just not good enough on either side of the game
  • Shaw: Time for him to go passed long ago
  • Malacia: not good enough and too injury prone
  • Casemiro: done, sell
  • Ugarte: fine player
  • Mainoo: WTF has happened?!?
  • Mount: seems to be just broken
  • Eriksen: leaving on a free
  • Bruno: no brain whatsoever
  • Amad: Fine but would be a squad player for a serious title challenger
  • Antony: just…what
  • Rashford: gone
  • Garnacho: thinks he’s Ronaldo MkII, honestly wouldn’t shed a tear if he was sold for the right price
  • Zirkzee: just a lot of meh
  • Hojlund: there’s a good striker in there but just gets NOTHING from the others
So that’s maybe 3 players in the entire squad I’d actively want to hold on to.

Then you’ve got the issue of INEOS.

‘We’re deciding on building a style of play and the manager will fit that’ - so is our style 343? Or are we going to buy players for him and then get stuck with too many CBs and WBs when the next manager comes in and wants 4231 again?

Then you have the stadium, which will be a >£1bn drain on finances for the next Xyrs, impacting our ability in the transfer market.

TLDR - we’re proper fecked!
 
People need to also accept, even with Amorim new 11 players this 343 might not work. It's a very delicate balancing position we're in.

What guarantee do we have 343 will bring success?
What if we sign 343 specific players and then the team plays okay but we fail to achieve meaningful success.. Does the system be broken again, then we look for a new system and new players again?

The biggest problem now for Amorim is results have plummeted massively, can you trust him with your own 500m to buy 'his own players' to play 343? When the existing players are not improving?
Also do we need a new Gk, Df, WB, Mid, Strikers because it seems we have no capable player to play this system?

Very very tricky situation

It would have been interesting to have seen how Ruud would have fared if he continued until the end of the season. Whilst the football in his short spell wasn't amazing (when is it?), he played to the squads strengths, i.e. 4231, mid block, counter, etc.

With Amorim, whilst I like what he's doing, and strongly believe it will come good, due to such a drastic change in system and style of play, it would have been much more suitable for both parties for him to come in during the summer. That way, he would have had the chance to sign the players suited to his system, in addition to having the whole of pre season to work on it.

With that being said, I guess the earlier Amorim has the chance to find out who's good enough and who's not, the better. He did say the storm will come and feck me, it hasn't half.

Bournemouth,Tottenham,Wolves was average to poor yet won and scored 9 goals between them. All of that says a lot more about United than the those three teams

Near certain five defeats in a row incoming now with in form Newcastle and Liverpool, Arsenal to play in the next three games.

After that United will be out of both domestic cup and only a few points off the relegation zone. Truly depressing situation.

Funny how you’d never ever criticize ten Hag but are so quick to do it for the new coach.
 
Like the guy a lot and he has a very bright future ahead. However, don’t think he will be able to see the season out. The players at the club are ill suited to play any kind of technical football and Ruben doesn’t seem like the guy who will go back on his principles. Hope Ineos stay strong and back him even if things get worse (not withstanding relegation ofcourse).

One of the key reasons implementing your approach right away and sticking with it is a wise move is that you frontload as much of the growing pains as you can at the point where you are least likely to come under pressure for your job.

If he did something else to tide us over until next season and then ran into the same problems when he switched to 343, the complaints would be even worse at that point.

And crap though they are, many of these players will still be the ones we're relying on next year. So the more time they have to adapt, the better.
 
I feel sorry for Amorim, I hope he is given the time and space to get things working his way, the players we have in the main are a shower of shite
 
The true villains are the people that were involved in letting the squad get to this state.

Amorim is not immune to criticism, I accept that, but he's been dealt the shittiest hand possible. We are not coaching our way out of this one - significant and clever investment in the squad i needed, no matter who sets the staring XI.

That's true. But I don't know if he'll get a chance to benefit from these growing pains if we finished 14th or something this season.

I thought the whole point of INEOS taking over with a sporting director (or whatever name you want to give it) is that there was a strategy to our transfers in. I thought we were supposed to be buying players for the system, NOT the manager and yet in the summer we clearly indulged ETH's Dutch obsession.
 
You guys surely suck, but at least Amorim seems commited to implement his style and he was aware it was going to get ugly at first. I would be worried if he started to give up on his principles in order to grind results no matter what. At some point the team needs to commit to a style and change managers and players accordingly.

Sorry Amorim we have tried all the types of managers, who have won it all but they have all failed. We have given you a zero balance squad with zero characters, no athletes and a clown keeper. Old players on wages that make no sense, primadonnas and absolutely mediocre players all over the pitch. Worst of all we offer you fans that have absolutely no tolerance for this mess anymore, leaking stands, leaking press room and no training facilities. Hope you get the support from your bosses that you need this is going to be a bumpy ride.
 
3 at the back requires top class wingback. Our full backs are inverted full backs, which means they don’t have the attacking threat that wingback needs. On top of that, we’re not exactly playing 343, we play 3421. It requires technical two no 10

If we’re going to back Amorim, we will need to get rid the idea of having wingers, we need to find wingbacks, and sign more technical flair no 10 including top no 9. The issue is if it doesn’t work and Amorim isn’t the right manager, what are we going to do next? Find manager who plays with wingback to continue the rebuild?

It was a high risk appointment. I hope we make the right call, let’s be patient while we suffer watching our team losing until summer, and hopefully we back him with top right and left wingbacks, technical flair no 10, and top goalscorer no 9.

I agree on most of them. But the first 2 players I would pick in a starting 11 would be De Ligt and Maguire. I think they are a solid backbone.

The flip side of that is:
- we have serious PSR constraints, and having no Europe next year is not going to help
- this is not City where we can win 1 in 13 and the media goes easy on us.
- we are probably going to have a lot of ins and outs to re jig the squad to the formation anyway.

For Amorim he basically has a complete bye and high goodwill so makes sense for him to use that. But I'm not sure it's the best scenario for the club.
 
The man who wouldn't change his style went to 5 defensive players very soon and it all went tits up. Not his fault as he leads a broken mess of a club. As it wasn't ten Hag's fault, who'll sign for a Tottenham and absolutely batter this United team in the near future. We are a shockingly bad run football club and a new manager won't change it, nor will 1 or 2 new players. It's a sick club.

Yeah the reason why Liverpool were sceptical about moving to a 343 was probably partly because if he doesn't work they would then probably go for a manager who plays 4 at the back

This is exactly what'll happen here.
 
Amorim is fecked well and truly if this keeps up.

INEOS may pressure him to go against his values and beliefs by reverting back to a system he refuses to use if they don't back him and his style.

Amorim will then either walk and say feck it and hold his head up high. Or, Amorim adapts and reverts back to our old formation, at the expense of losing face with the squad.

He can't win regardless.

Personally I'd drop Mainoo and bring Casemiro back into the fold. Who is a much more technically gifted player with an eye for a goal and arguably being our best passer.

Yeah, maybe once or twice for ten Hag, after months of horrible performances. There are so many excuses you could potentially call out for Amorim yet you’re not doing that, while you were never short of excuses for ten Hag.

Even spurs aren't dumb enough to go for ten hag.

Clearly we shouldn't have gone all in on ten hag to the extent we did but I struggle to believe other coaches/managers would have left us in such a bad position

What are you talking about? You’re the one saying nobody is worse than EtH, and i’m just saying Amorim might be, but we will have to see.
 
He doesn't have much experience in the Premier League.

Can he learn fast? Can he adapt?

Who knows?... I guess we'll find out.


(I hope that he does, but it is not guaranteed. A lot of managers did well in other leagues but failed in the PL.)
