This team is hopeless.
Well fecking 3-4-2-1 isn’t fecking working is it?
People can't accept this situation is fecked. We really might have to sell our better players to bounce back.People calling for Amorim to be sacked. Cop on ffs.
What's he supposed to do with this squad. People will say that he should change to a different formation to suit the players but they have proven they aren't much better in other set ups.
And we don't have money to spend so we will most likely have to keep some of these players meaning they have got to get used to the way Amorim wants to do things.
That mediocre team that you disrespect has beaten us without breaking a sweat, the only mediocre team here is us.We knew we’d have to put up with a huge storm. I get losing to every bang average team at home is difficult to take, but we have to give this guy a number of years. He’s inherited a dogshit team.
Antony is leaving. What are Hojlund, Zirkzee, Antony, Onana, and Dalots strengths?
This will be the case with most candidates but at least the guy doesn't insist on playing 3 at the back all the time.Same problem, he plays a style of football completely unsuited to our players.
You can add Højlund and Zirkzee to that. We wasted an incredibly amount of resources and only made the squad worse. Meanwhile there seems to be a serious overrating of players like Garnacho, Mainoo, and Dalot. They can't be starters just because they've put in the good game here and there. The money spent on Onana, Casemiro, Antony and Mount tipped us over the edge. Dross we couldn’t afford at massively inflated prices, Amorim is making mistakes but he’s taken over a huge shit show that won’t be fixed quickly.
Just worry about the amount of transfer windows he'll need to get the players inWhat will give is player turnover. They brought Amorim in, they'll sign players to fit his system, the squad will theoretically be better suited to it.
It'll probably be in the summer any significant change happens, but then this season is a write off already so it hardly matters.
How long does it take for professional, high quality footballers that have grown up playing football every day to learn a system? You telling me that all of this lot have never played a different system before now?Because the team has to learn his system..
Christ..
This is bollocks. We are not expected to lose to Bournemouth, wolves, Forrest, spurs, Brighton and scrape past Southampton "regardless of what he does" (all but spurs being at OT too). Such performances are very much avoidable.Again, so?
We suck. We're going to lose games regardless of what he does.
So what's the point of him being "pragmatic" and abandoning his plan, when the only potential upside in the league at least is a slightly better mid-table finish?
Every game we get overrun in midfield. Something’s got to give as the current set up is just not working with this set of players.
If we are fine with finishing outside top 10 come the end of the season, then keep going this way without any recruitment. If Ineos wants to show they mean business and drag us to where we belong, then they have to find a way to get the manager some new players this window.
Ah great let’s just keep losing games then and give up.Because our players are terrible. It didn't work in any other formation too.
It’s a big catch 22 because if he moves Amad deeper, he’s got nobody really to play in the right no.10. But then repeatedly playing two conventional fullbacks as wingbacks and expecting something different than what we see week in week out is a bit of insanity
Because the team has to learn his system..
Christ..
I agree largely but the problem is you want to see incremental changes. So far, barring the 3-4 games, there’s not much evidence of improvement. Why?
In the league the difference between sticking with his plan this season or abandoning it will be a midtable finish versus a worse midtable finish. And that's if we imagine changing formation magically provides short term improvement, which isn't in any way guaranteed given the players were bad in the previous system too.
Winning the game today would have taken us from 13th to the giddy heights of 11th. That's how low the stakes are for us in the league for the rest of this season. So now is exactly the time to try improving on his actual plan rather than being pragmatic.
I get that we don’t have the players to be challenging for trophies, but I do not believe for one minute that this squad can’t get comfortably into the top half.
Brighton isn’t a team of stars or world class players, but as a team they seem to know what they’re doing.
Whether it’s lack of quality players, shortage of time on the training ground, the owners, or the previous managers, we’re soon going to run out of excuses.
Ruben simply has to be getting a better tune out of this squad.
Feck man, something tells me you’ve never watched an Allegri side.
He's taken over a bunch of international football players, almost all whom play for their respective international teams. He's taken over a team of utter clowns. I don't even think he is good enough to sort out this mess, especially when the club don't have any money.
Has he got Amad “right”? Or is it just a case of our best player by some distance, showing he’s a good player?
No one is expecting a miracle. Better performances and being higher than 13th is a pretty low bar to meet. The formation being the issue is a somewhat lazy take. Conte and Tuchel have had success playing similar systems. Amorims 3-4-3 is just a variation of the current meta top teams implement. Inverting full backs, creating a box midfield and 5 attackers.
The issue is the players weren't good enough under Ten Hag and aren't good enough now. Our owners have no money and we can't sell players. I think Amorim is great but he isn't a miracle worker. He needs backing.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I'm not sure what the answer is which is why I'm cutting him more slack than some others in here. It can't be overstated how poor the squad really is, and when you compound it with your 50m keeper being a coin flip of whether he'll be world class or cost you an entire result on a week by week basis it just makes things even tougher. It’s a big catch 22 because if he moves Amad deeper, he’s got nobody really to play in the right no.10. But then repeatedly playing two conventional fullbacks as wingbacks and expecting something different than what we see week in week out is a bit of insanity
It must be, at least this season. Many responses during games are made impulsively and without any careful consideration and lack of judicious reasoning. It is the same in most of the threads typically, but the quality of this thread especially, devolves massively into chaos during any loss. This thread should be closed during games. In saying that, I'm really disappointed with that result, these unforced errors keep rearing their ugly heads and doesn't look like he can iron them out.
He's fully exposing the squad for what they are that's for sure.
Again, so?

That's how teams get relegated. Russell Martin was destroyed for refusing to change his teams system before getting the boot.
He needs telling from above, adapt until you have suitable players or face the consequences of continued defeats.
The honeymoon period is over for me now, he got away with one against Southampton, today he's been schooled by Brighton.
Conte didn't win the league playing 3 at the back? This is a lazy post. Conte and Tuchel both changed their formations and systems they started with at Chelsea.
No, we’re a shit team. Brighton are midtable with 1 win in 9 before today. It’s not disrespectful anymore to say teams that are winning at OT are mediocre. That mediocre team that you disrespect has beaten us without breaking a sweat, the only mediocre team here is us.
He has had enough time now to know the limits of this squad, he should be able to throw a team together to beat teams like Brighton at home.
He still has time but looks like he hasn't a clue how to fix this with the current squad of crap.
Would we even get that much?People can't accept this situation is fecked. We really might have to sell our better players to bounce back.
I understand PSR, but come on, there has to be a way to get him a couple of new players. What the feck was the point in getting in a manager mid season with a drastically different playing style if they had no intention to recruit first team players mid season! With all the money Chelsea have spent they are still looking to recruit. We desperately need a couple of players and there has been no attempt to try. It’s pathetic and just shows INEOS ambition.
Yep we are not an academy team were results do not matter. It is stupid expecting a whole team to learn a new system that they are not capable to play in and compete in the premier league. That only happens in video games. Wrong appointment in Ten hag and same with Amorim. That's how teams get relegated. Russell Martin was destroyed for refusing to change his teams system before getting the boot.
