I really hoped Amorim and the coaches would help him turn this season around, and it looked promising at first with the two braces in Europe. But right now he looks broken. Nothing comes off for him with the ball at all. And yet we continuously try to use him as a target man, which he very much isn't.

Our issue is we only have him and Zirkzee but none of them are up to it currently. Even if we got a new first choice striker in, we probably still need both of them for depth unless someone from the academy steps up.

The problem is the Europa League is not close to par with the PL, and it really shows unless you get one of the favourites for the competition. In PL terms, there's not a side Rasmus would start for, and right now, we'd be better off with any starting striker in the league other than him.

It's not an exaggeration to say he is not currently PL standard.

He isnt at the moment. He was last season though at times. He needs to get out of here before he is ruined completely.

We have a massive issue with movement. Bruno was screaming at several to move. And both Rasmus and Josh where so often left all alone with 2 - 3 defenders while the other players just stood there to far away. No runs behind or help. Josh is much better and holding the ball but even he was doing nothing with it cause the runs werent there.
 
It's genuinely botering me why he's getting starts ahead of Zirkzee.

His hold up play is so bad it makes our other forwards noticeably worse.

Amad is a far better player when Zirkzee is on.

I actually think he’s worse than Weghorst.

In Hojlund and Zirkzee, we probably have the worst United striking pair since records began.

I would rather play Harry Maguire up front.
 
I'm shocked at how far the ball strayed away after his first touch. Some strikers don't have a clean touch but this was the worst I've seen at this level in a long time.

I've said in here my preferred route for him is an open, high octane league like The Bundesliga where he can learn where and how to run in open spaces and across the lines. The PL is suffocating for him and he isn't given enough time to think - the problem is the PL is for finished articles or those who are very quick learners otherwise it'll chew you up and spit you out. He gets no purchase whatsoever out of PL CB's and he has no idea how to cope with that, but especially, it is clear to see the pace of everything is too fast for him and that affects: decisions, timings, technical aspects and movement.

People say he looks lagged, and it's because he cannot process and output quickly enough in the PL, which makes him look laboured and pedestrian, which in turn is absolutely destroying his confidence.

I'm not sure if we'll stick it out if we can find a buyer in the summer at the moment. There's so much work to do for him to even be brought up to the minimum bar in the league, let alone go on to be a United level striker who we're happy with and not constantly looking to upgrade upon.

Ten times he lost possession, he’s not good enough, needs a loan in the summer.
 
It’s the fact that he cannot do simply anything at the moment, hold the ball up, simple passes, heading, runs into the channel. It’s like he’s just started to play football for the first time in his life currently.

There was a simple first time pass from Amad into him at the start of the second half which he bobbled off his foot and let go to a Fulham player, basically summed up his performance.
 
Looks very nervous and that his confidence is shot. Couldnt even control a ball tonight with no defender near him.

Charlie Adam was once 21 too. Just because we bought them doesn't mean they are going to be any good.

It's fascinating to me that people seem to have forgotten that even ETH dropped him toward the end of last season. This is who this guy is, folks. Outside his little purple patch, this is all that's left.

Man Utd isn't a charity. He isn't good enough, and should be sold. At best loaned an extra season with a view to selling given the amortization factor on the initial outlay.

As The Athletic also reported several months ago. So it's always wild seeing some of our scouts blamed for things they didn't do. We've been a shitshow for a while behind the scenes.

Ahh ... McT. Mentioned him a few pages back and got a few on my back, but he had better movement in the CF position, and showed it last season when they both played together. I take your point re: the old legends. I constantly see excuses about Hojlund's age, yet a lot of us are old enough to remember young players coming through who you could see had it, but were inconsistent/inexperienced etc. Even during our current bad era (the one killing it in France right now is a recent example even the younger fans will remember).
 
He's been absolutely fecking appalling for most of the season but especially the last couple of months.

Absolutely zero threat and terrible all round game.

Him and Zirkzee as our forward options is tragic.
 
I agree with all the criticism of his performances, but the club have made a right mess of the squad building. Having to rely on a young kid to score goals whilst we’re tragically bad is just a huge mistake. It’s not the right environment to perform no matter how talented they may be. They only doubled down on the idiocy by buying Zirkzee, who is barely any better.

Under Fergie he would have been used completely differently, and his confidence would have been built by bringing him in when it was the right occasion. From there, a young player can develop. Not in this situation.

And in fairness to him, this is the worst I’ve seen him for us. I can only guess his confidence is shot right now. Not long after Amorim came in he was getting praised and saying how the system suits him, but this last month or so has been brutal for him. If we had any decent alternatives he’d be out of the limelight now and brought back in when he was ready to go again.
 
He might come good eventually but I fear it won’t be whilst playing for us. We got him too early, we overpaid and then his replacement hasn’t hit the ground running.

I really can’t stand strikers that can’t do basics though, he’s got trampolines for feet.
 
Enough of the “ he doesn’t get the service “ narrative and let’s be honest, he’s absolutely shit and never in a million years is he or ever will be good enough for us, remembering the forwards we used to have and seeing this guy start for us makes my teeth itch..I can’t believe there isn’t a forward in the youth teams that isn’t better than him as we are going nowhere with him and Zirkzee up front

I don’t even understand what Rasmus thinks he’s trying to accomplish on each touch of his play. It’s like watching a blindfolded Benny Hill play football for the first time.

Not a chance. Mount most recently has been much worse. He's literally offered nothing. Sancho too. Hojilund is actually nowhere close considering he had a decent first season here hitting double digits. Antony I'll give you.
 
That was practically a 1/10 performance from him. It's the worst I've seen him play. Nothing was sticking to him.

Him and this guy apparently play the same position. He was a long way from being good enough for us, if our objective is to be a team that is better at football than all the other teams.

He's not good, not worth 20m even. But the boy is gone, confidence shattered. Best for all if he goes somewhere to find a better context. He is done here.
 
Surely we have an option apart from him or Zirkzee.

Can't we just play a 3-5-2 with Amad and Garnacho as our forward 2? Bruno behind.

No on Mount. Let's not confuse one problem for another.

One can clearly see what Mount offers in an Amorim system. Movement, energy, one-touch passing, pressing, etc. He's tailored-made for the inside-ten. Even Amorim himself sees his value ( and namechecked him after the first training session). Mount's problem is simple: he can't stay fit. Not that he offers nothing.

Hojlund is only nominally a striker/CF, but offers nothing. No goals. No holdup play. No shots. No goal threat. Nothing.
 
Funny thing about him is that he's incredibly fast but his technique is so bad and his movement is so cumbersome that his pace becomes pointless. Everything he does needs an extra touch or a few additional seconds to decide what he wants to do.

When he finally wins a back to goal duel against a CB, he just holds position, he doesn't even know what he wants to do after that. The extra seconds it takes for him to process what to do next leads to potential attacks dying.

He is awful and was no different last season except for the run of games he went on.

He needs selling in the summer.

It’s been obvious since the day we signed him that he just doesn’t have the technical ability for the top level. Its just that no wanted to admit what we could all see with our own eyes. Just in the same way people didn’t want to admit Antony was clearly crap.

He’s fast and has a good shot on him, and that’s about it. He could eventually be effective but his technical ability is so lacking he’s never going to be a top level player.

He’s an incredibly poor man’s Lukaku, just without the goals.

He wasn't great last season either but people had blind hope based on him being new and young and everyone wanting to blame his teammates.

He has failed to score in 36 of his 47 PL games for us, that is woeful. How anyone could expect a player with about 10 career goals in a decent league to come and reliably be number one striker for any PL team, let alone Manchester United, is bonkers. The decision was baffling and the decision to not rectify it immediately was even more damaging.

What happened to the days of having multiple quality options in a position? Now we just safeguard positions for crap or underperforming and undeserving players.

I reckon a mid table League 1 striker would offer more than Rasmus.
He cannot even do the basic things a centre forward is supposed to do.
If we have Joe Hugill back at the club I would throw him in instead as at the moment no one could do any worse!
 
It feels like there’s a bit of a kneejerk reaction going on here. Let’s take a step back and chill for a moment.

It seems pretty clear that Premier League defenders have started to figure out his game, which is quite typical for strikers in their second season, especially younger ones. The plan seems to be to keep him as far from goal as possible, mark him very tightly, and use a physical approach to unsettle him. It’s working for now, but he needs to adapt quickly if he wants to make the next step in his development.

That said, I still believe he has the attributes to become a decent player for us in the long run. The issue, though, is that he was bought to be a starter – and he shouldn’t have been. It’s a lot to ask of someone at his stage, and it’s showing in his performances.

Right now, with off-the-ball wingers like Garnacho and Amad, someone like Zirkzee seems like a better fit. He has the technical ability to hold up the ball, giving those wingers time to get into dangerous positions. That balance is something we’re clearly missing at the moment.

Patience is key here. He’s young and learning, and he’s going to have ups and downs. But maybe it’s time to manage our expectations and look at how we can support him better in the current setup.

To be fair, Fergie would never spend big money on a young striker unless they were a special talent like Rooney. He bought someone like Hernandez as a cheap punt, and the same could be said about Ole, but we always had more experienced strikers around them.

We have not signed a proper striker at his peak since Van Persie. We either signed young strikers or players past their prime like Cavani, Falcao and Ibra.
