Thanks. Like that video.

Rather than the polarising views you see on this forum, and indeed online I like his view “I’m alright about it’.

On the regeneration piece, I’ve seen what happened in North Greenwich, Stratford and Wembley - areas completely transformed due to new stadia (and the O2 Arena). It’s what the area needs.

I think a lot of people are. Lots of former players etc. saying the same thing, and obviously some fans are upset about it which is reasonable but ultimately it’s the most logical decision.

It’s idiots like Paul Merson and Martin Keown (don’t remember if was them specifically) etc. kicking off about it which makes no sense.

I wonder was that Fergie's idea so that he got a better view of the pitch.

I'd like if the dugouts were kept in the new stadium. To me they're iconic.

Otherwise maybe have them in the fa zones/plazas so that you can sit in them.

Pretty sure it was, they were built in 1992 if I recall correctly.

To be honest I'd hope the home dugout (the proper one) could be dismantled and be rebuilt in the new club museum. Maybe the old tunnel as well if possible.

The tunnel is in the corner. Can’t see how that affects the centrality of the dugouts (in relation to the halfway line)?
There's another tunnel between the dugouts though. And that's so off-center that the dugouts to either side are as well.

I'd love to see the raised dugout in the new stadium as well. As was said, they're a pretty unique feature and I actually like that.

The one feature I can do without is the trenches surrounding the field.

The old players tunnel which was used upto 1992.

Yeah the views are pretty crap in the first few rows because of how high the pitch is. I'm sure that's part of the reason the dugouts were raised also.

This, and because they pose an entirely unneccessary injury risk to players. Honestly I'm surprised that they haven't been forced to fill them in by a safety inspector.

In all the years, I’ve never noticed.

I think Villa used to have raised dugouts - but just googled, and clearly they don’t anymore. But have a vague memory from the 90s having been sat behind them at a cup game.

Cool, thanks. So it's going to look massive as feck, if it gets the go ahead.
As they are digging down 15 metres below ground, it won't be looking as tall on the approach as otherwise, should still be very impressive, but not as high as if it was built from the ground up.

Yea i thought that. Why would they build it like that, seems a faff and won't look as big from the outside

Probably makes it a lot cheaper not having to build up that far above ground level. Especially since it means you can also keep the roof and all associated structures and supports a whole lot lower.

Amazon apparently interested, £750m over 10 years.
I’d hope for “Amazon Old Trafford” similar to what Barca are doing, rather than just Amazon stadium. Can’t stand Arsenal fans like “going down the Emirates” so soulless to have a sponsor name.

I saw that too, but I haven't seen it reported by a reputable source yet. Would be an amazing deal though, can't turn it down when you're building a £2 billion stadium.

There may be a few more interested in this. Amazon may be the first rumour, no doubt we will see loads of rumours about this.

This is a new stadium, it's not Old Trafford. Barca are renovating the Nou Camp hence why it's retaining it's name.

Well Amazon New Trafford then. I'm saying just an actual stadium name alongside the sponsor.

The area is called Old Trafford. The new stadium is being built alongside the current one. Hence, still Old Trafford.

I'm well aware, but Manchester United's stadium for over a century bore the name Old Trafford. It became much more than simply a location signifier, the name Old Trafford will always be intrinsically linked with the current ground. We can't just give a brand new stadium the same name, it wouldn't feel right.

But regardless I think we're both aware that the chances of this new stadium not having a sponsors name are slim to fecking none in any case.

Something like The Amazon Arena at Trafford Park is the best we could hope for probably.

Being pedantic but most of the new stadium would be still in Old Trafford. I think the freight depot is in Trafford Park.

I'm hoping for, 'The Sir Alex Ferguson Stadium'. Though yeah, it will no doubt have some sponsors name attached to it.

Yeah that would be great, I agree with you guys I don't like the idea of the stadium just being named after some corporation. But that's the way football has went and I don't think we can turn down the money that will be on offer for exclusive naming rights.

There is no way on earth that they don't leverage the new stadium as a way to get a huge increase in commercial income. Naming rights is a sure fire way to do that, and also, to pay for a large chunk of it.

Amazon Arena, with each stand also named. You're looking at the best part of a Billion quid over 10 years.

Anything built where the current ground is will be will be on United owned land, so rental income from there as well. Should they decide to sell it to private developers that want to be in and around the new stadium, they'd make a killing off that as well I'd assume.

The club will probably do something aong those lines to generate income. Hopefully it's just renting the land and not selling it off, I think the club should always be in control of all the land around the stadium.

"Amazon Arena" sounds horribly Americanised.

It'll surely be called " *insert brand name here* Stadium / Park ", like most football stadiums in the UK.

Agreed. In a sense, it would be foolish to turn down the money. We'd be putting ourselves at a rather unnecessary disadvantage. Wonder what the chances are of getting away with 'The Sir Alex Ferguson Stadium sponsored by Amazon'?

Ooooh great minds think alike

I agree. It's not the same name as the old stadium so one would have to be pretty dumb to confuse the two, but it's close to it, which is fine as it is actually close to it. Next door even.
