Awful performance at first, we really needed a few better passers in the line-up.

We were lucky that Bilbao missed their chances and gave up after we got a jammy penalty and they got someone sent off.

Besides that, there is something aböut us in Europe and we can score out of nowhere.

There‘s more attacking intent now, crosses and cut backs going into the box frequently. I loved the performances of the subs too.

Clear pen and a clear red. We were dominant in possession 11 vs 11. We were also 1-0 up 11 vs 11.

The season has been shocking almost throughout but i am, maybe strangely, confident about him.
Bruno found a new level when Ruben took over.
Casemiro is back from the dead and playing like he is desperate to win stuff again.
Zirkzee started off very slow but has improved his fitness and intensity massively. Shame about his injury.
Maguire has stepped up and played some of the best football of his career under Ruben. Him beating a Spanish defender with flair tonight will go down in folklore and comes from him playing with huge confidence.
Garnacho has stepped up his intensity since Ruben asked to see more from him.
It seems the players are responding well to his coaching/personality which is a very positive start.

Still lots to figure out for him but with some good work in the transfermarket we might surprise a few next season.
100% agree.

Even with Mainoo, he was fairly quick to realize he’s better higher up the pitch instead of shoehorning him in the middle of the park.

Might I add Yoro to the list too, who while having made mistakes, has generally adapted well to the system as well.
Funny how fewer new pages there are in this thread when we win.
I noticed that too! Just logged in again after a good 2 hours or so and couldn’t believe the thread was still on the same page!

I expect to see plenty more when United inevitably drop points in the league at the weekend.

Surely that’s because there’s less debate going on? Mainly posters happy over a great win for the players and manager, so 99% of posts are positive?

After a draw or loss, there are many more negative posts, which posters then debate back and forth for page after page?

Seems fairly normal. It’s like posting the same ”funny how quiet it is” in Onana’s performance thread.

Well they do say people are far more likely to leave a complaint after a bad experience, than a positive review after a good one, so it probably is a bit of that, too.

I’m absolutely certain it’s been the same for all our managers, bad result = negative comments = debate.

Good result = positive comments = some high fiving, very little debate

Haven't been impressed with him overall but if he wins us the Europa, I'll wind in the moaning and fully back him for next season.

Reviving Maguire's career from the proverbial court jester to King and using Casemiro in the right way are definitely a few positives of his tenure.

That’s the point though.

Posters who defend Ruben don’t go quiet when he loses and voice their reasons to back him still. However posters who criticize him suddenly go quiet when he wins. Is it that easy to change their minds so quickly? Why don’t they stick to their narrative because clearly, United have been losing way more often than winning so a win here n there should not deter them from their narrative no?

That’s why posters who do support him continuously recommend being patient with him because we see the intangibles too which aren’t justified by a win or a loss, myself included. While those who only see the tangibles are easily convinced to see him gone every time there is a loss.

So for instance, those of us who criticize him and want him gone, would they still want that if we ended up winning the Europa while finishing 14-17 in the league? I doubt that.

So many would stop debating and probably give him more time even though many things that Ruben does that were supposedly ‘wrong’ to them are now also things that somehow won us a trophy no?
For instance, many posters think the formation/selection is doomed but they don’t understand that with time and more and more practice and the right personnel, it is playable perhaps?

Sometimes, different situations require different reactions. Had we brought Ruben in when the squad was better than it was and the team was trending upwards instead of downwards and Ruben’s job was to make us even better, but he was ruining our chances of doing that, then I too would’ve been quick to judge him. But when we knew this season is in shambles and probably a right off, then many of us knew it’s wise to give him time and reset things properly instead of just getting rid of him quickly just because the results aren’t up to par.

And now we can see that with time, things are actually improving. Maybe that’s why some posters are quiet now. Because there isn’t as much to debate as there has been before. We are not conceding 20+ shots on goal every game, we are controlling games more rather than playing a measly counter attacking game where teams just come and treat us like rookies who are okay with being second best. Teams now have to work their bums off to earn a win. Chances don’t come by very often every game.
Some of us could see these changes happening and knew results will start reflecting the positives in time. I’m so happy that we aren’t just playing haphazardly anymore and players are being played to the best of their abilities and that is starting to show in the results too.
Bruno and Casemiro are the biggest examples of it. Passes aren’t being wasted as often as they were by Bruno and Casemiro is literally winning us games with his G/As in cruical moments/games. As is evident in Europa knockout stages. These 2 players received a ton of blame under EtH.

I would love for posters to come and debate now who still want him gone because I bet their list of reasons for wanting him gone is diminishing more and more.

Edit: forgot to say that it’s not the same as your point about the Onana thread. Onana is a whole other story and there is no way you can compare his narrative with other narratives. Onana is a walking, punching, brain farting red flag and he needs to be gone this summer. Him having a good game or two is not the same as the team or manager performing better.

Amorim has inherited the worst Man Utd team in premier league history. He’s struggled as we do not have a proven striker. He also (rightly) shipped out 2 attackers Rashford and Anthony this was on top of Sancho. None of those guys were doing the business (end of).

So coming in with someone else’s underperforming (or possibly performing as they should) weak squad. What did people expect.

I personally think he’s going to be great.

Might be grasping here, but I'll say this. He has previous experience of European football and his team shows it. Hopefully after this horror of an EPL season, he'll have the experience, the players and the preseason to unlock how to approach the league.

Missed the game. Anywhere I can watch the full game without subscription?
I don't know what the rules are here about sharing links to other sites for games so if you still need a link shoot me a pm and I'll hook you up

Sorry man, but this just sounds so fecking stupid. You think posters who are very disappointed about Amorim’s start as boss and sceptical about his ability to turn the club around, should come into a thread after a 0-3 away Semi final win in Spain and complain?

Should those who have slagged off Casemiro also be in his thread slating him ?

If he wins Europa, he would have earned himself another 6 months to prove it in the EPL that his defensive system where for the majority part we have looked clueless/ toothless can somehow work domestically

Also would be classic Spurs that having had our number in the last few games they'd go and lose the one game a trophy is actually on the line.

But as you say lets get there first tying it up next week. Also no guarnatees about Spurs given Bodo's record at home and also Spurs being Spurs
Also they will have (maybe) survived playing 90 mins on a plastic table top on the side of an iceberg.

I wouldn’t say 6 months but he’ll have earned some extra leeway next season for sure. It’ll be a huge confidence lift for him, the players, the club which will be the biggest help.

I’m not sure he or anyone else for that matter should be getting any leeway if we start the season the same way we have been performing this year? Even after a full preseason and summer transfer window there would be nothing to suggest he has any idea on how to make us competitive in the EPL then

What’s so feckin stupid about it? YES they should. If there are things that Ruben is to blame for then why not speak about them?

I think it’s feckin stupid if he’s blamed after a poor result only because sometimes it’s not even his fault that a player or players single-handedly cause the result no?

My God.. I can’t believe you just admitted that posters should avoid criticisms on days we win.
I mean Ruben himself mentioned in his post match conference that the first 25 mins was not good! So they should avoid talking about that? That’s my point and you keep reiterating it in your posts.

Even myself, while I do support Ruben but even I will humbly admit that the game wasn’t perfect.
For instance if Ruben continues to pick Ugarte when you know he’s a red flag against high pressing teams and if we do have other players available now who can replace him then eventually I too will criticize him for poor selection!

See, it wasn’t that hard to find a balance between criticism and praise was there?

I feel once he gets his players in (i.e. more physical, athletic players suited to Premier League), we will start to see something interesting and potentially exciting.

Beating the 4th best team in Spain in their stadium 3-0 is the stuff of dreams. Under Ferguson, I’m sure it would have been deemed a Top 5 best European away performance.

If it wasn’t for Onana going Taibi in Lyon, we’d have had a comfortable win against Lyon away too.

Amorim knows how to get the players up for big away matches, which is the antithesis of ETH.

Let's finish the job and win this thing. He'll buy himself a lot of goodwill if he rescues the absolute shitshow of a season with a trophy and CL football.

I think it's also like Amorim says, sometimes luck plays a role.

We've had some shocking luck in the league which has ruined some decent performances. It just never gets acknowledged by those who wish to criticise all the time.

But on the flip side I think it's fair to say we have had some breaks in Europa which have helped. That's 3 red cards for the opposition against Bilbao, Lyon and Sociedad. Is it 4 pens we've had in the same games? Some of them have been harsh as well.

That obviously aids these results but as I say, we are due some luck.

and on top of all that I think we've improved at set pieces.

I also like that we did more positive subs to try and get that extra goal in second half.

Mount for Ugarte, Shaw for Mazraoui and Diallo for Dorgu.

Previously we would have tried to shore things up more, even with a man advantage.

Point in case, I posted praise directly after the game and no one engaged with it. When I post criticism after the next loss, five people will jump on it (just like they did the last time)

Yup and we were unlucky not to get another goal. Hit the bar, post, should've had a pen, and Garnacho and Bruno had decent chances too

You misunderstood the assignment. That poster's challenging people to complain about Amorim no matter the result or performance.

Such a strange thing to moan about, but it was also present during ETH's tenure. People complaining that people are not complaining when we did well.

Regardless of whether we think Amorim is the right manager or not, it’s clear that most of our players aren’t up to the standards athleticism wise for the league and it’s one of the biggest reason why we’re struggling in the league.

Talking about luck, good or bad is a cop out. You could certainly be unlucky in the odd game here and there but when the results aren't there over an extended period that's not down to bad luck, it points to something or many things fundamentally wrong. The saying about making your own luck comes to mind.

I've been very critical of Amorim's league campaign because although he's come into a tough situation half way through a season, I don't think he's handled that situation well given the squad at his disposal and the quality of opposition throughout the league. I think he could and probably should have changed tact to avoid an embarassing league finish, instill some confidence, put some doubt in the mind of other teams and perhaps drive up the value of some players we should be trying to shift in the window.

With that said, what he's putting in place has worked well in the Europa League. Therefore, it does stand to reason that it could well be a personnel issue in the league and that his tactics may work with players who are more suited to that level either in terms of physical attributes, ability/football intelligence, or both. For that reason I do think he deserves a chance to work with the squad when it's overhauled a bit more despite my initial incorrect thoughts about the quality of the squad.

I just said I don't think it'll give him 6 months, but it may well give him 12 games as opposed to being fired by the end of September if we lose this, and continue picking up a point per game in the Prem.

Aye, we should all come in moaning after amazing results, sounds fun. When people complained after Newcastle twatted us, you had fans frothing at the mouth at how stupid our fans are for not seeing the big picture, imagine this fecking place if people came in complaining after swatting away one of the best defensive sides in Europe 0-3 on their home turf.

No-one expects Amorim, or any coach for that matter to be perfect. I also don't think people blame the manager for a poor result due to an individual mistake, it's more the frankly horrendous stat of 23 games, 1.04 points per game, relegation show they lament. As we can see with these players, they are nowhere near as shit as many make out.

I honestly can't believe you think this thread should be alive with pages of complaining after a 0-3 win in Bilbao. But hey, you seem absolutely desperate for it so be my guest, turn this thread negative again by responding to the above paragraph and hopefully get some more "fun" pages of moaning to please yourself after a great win.
