Jonathan Tah

Yeah I guess the last big earners pre Ineos on the books are Rashy, Bruno, Maguire, Case? Aside from Bruno, all are likely (to varying degrees) to leave this summer in my opinion.
I agree broadly though on the sensible frees, Meret and David in particular. I defintely would love another CB, I just know little about Tah in honesty but from what people are saying he'd be ideal as a cheap option.

Ideally we have 2-3 senior CBs and a couple of juniors pushing through minimum given we play with 3, then you have the deputy guys like Maz and Shaw after that.
If we were to get Rashford, Sancho, Casemiro, Maguire and Antony all off the wage bill and not take a PSR hit in some of their cases in regards to outstanding transfer fees you’re looking at the best part of £1.5 million a week or around £5.5 million a month off the wage bill and that’s not including Eriksen, Lindelof and Evans who are all definitely going which is around another £350K a week too.

If we’re able to get all of those off the books along with Maguire and hypothetically bring in £50 million combined for Rashford and Maguire and enough to cover outstanding fees on the ones we do and bring in the likes of Meret, Tah, Anguissa, Gomes, Bardghji and David we’d be in a far better position financially and playing wise but I don’t really trust the club to be that clever.

We haven't gone a summer without bringing in a CB for about 5 years so it keeps that trend up. On a free assuming wages aren't bonkers (which under INEOS they seemingly won't be) I'm not against this, style of play looks like it matches up with what Amorim is trying to build.

I do think one of the heavy hitters will get there ahead of us though, particularly as we won't go over the odds to entice these sorts anymore.

He's not good enough to command being first choice for Barca, Madrid, Bayern etc in a 2. Good squad/back up player. He would be much better for us in a 3 but still would he replace Yoro, De Light, Martinez if fit? Dont think so. If he's willing to be rotated then he will be a brilliant squad option and with all our injuries will get more than enough games. Just dont throw a hissy fit if he's left out of a big game

We have:

Maz, Yoro (RCB),
Shaw, Heaven, Martinez (LCB)
Maguire, De Ligt (CCB)

Surely that's enough even if Lindelof and Evans leave.

Sure he’s a decent player but would be like the fourth year running we’ve signed a CB. Wish we had that energy for ball playing midfielders.

All of the senior players listed here are either often injured (De Ligt/Martinez) not good enough (Maguire) or not even really a CB (Maz) we need better if we are going to improve.

I think Tah goes elsewhere though anyway
In this formation Mazraoui is a CB. Indeed I'd say he's been our most consistent CB out of all our options, barely having a bad game there.

I think its debatable the quality would really improve that much with some of them i.e. Gomes but slashing the wage will is a must + we're critically short in some of those positions, like CF.

One thing I will say though is our CBs need to be so much better on the ball, Amorim seems to want more of an engine room in the CMs from some of the links we have been seeing (I am hopeful we might get someone like Gallagher for £30m odd for example given Ederson mooted price) and maybe Tah does not have that Martinez like passing in his locker.

Watch us blow Rudiger/Alaba money on this chancer instead of signing the much younger, much better player in Huijsen

Hes had plenty of poor games there

It’s a direct replacement for Lindelof.
If that is the pitch to him and his agent then we might as well close thread…

He won’t be coming as a Lindelof replacement to be 6th choice. This only happens if Maguire or De Ligt leave IMO.

Yep. I'm very concerned by the lack of links to guys like Angelo Stiller. Only last year they were talking about him moving to Real or City or wherever. Now he's fallen off the radar and even has a release clause. The midfield the most important signing to make for me and we're still dragging our feet.

I’m still waiting for a link with one, you know. Like, where’s ball progression going to come from?

Tbf you could do with both especially if Alonso becomes your manager. Wouldn't be the worst signing on a free considering you need 2 new fullbacks a cm that can pass and a striker.

No brainer, get him it means we can improve our midfield, attacking options and wing back.

If we can get Tah, get some outs (the loanees currently) we have a huge summer ahead

Not really sure what our strategy is here.

At CB we've used this season.

Mazraoui
Yoro
De Ligt
Maguire
Martinez
Heaven
Shaw
Fredricson

Now, you can question the quality but I'd also question the sense in adding a 9th centre back option.

And I get we to tend to have injury issues at centre back, but in the scenario where you do have a fit selection it's just a very imbalanced squad. You're basically hoping for injuries to justify stockpiling so many players. It's also the position on the pitch you least have to rotate, as they're not as prone to fatigue like the players who have to run a lot.

Now, if it was up to me, I'd have moved on from the Maguire era this summer if we could find a reasonable fee transfer in his place. Instead, we extended Maguire's contract on his huge wages.

We could also have cashed in on Martinez this summer, as most now recognise he doesn't have the physical attributes and athleticism to build our team around going forward, but his injury makes him unsellable.

He has been determined to run his contract down for a while and much like Trent I think he has known exactly where he is going this summer for quite some time. I don't think we would realistically be an option for him.

We dont have Martinez till january in best case and Shaw is another injury phrone. Maguire and De Ligt are solid squad options but not regular starting 11 quality. RCB is filled good.

I hope Maguire, Martinez and Shaw all leave. Tah and Huijsen IN with Kukonki and Fridricson as 7th and 8th options.

While we dont sign any CF, CM and RWB? Of course.

No. We won't sign a CB. We have Heaven, Fredericson and Kukonki.

As I said mate if it’s so we can bring in £10-£15 million for Maguire then I’m all for it as Maguire is on £190K a week and Tah is currently on £50K a week so even if we tripled his wages it’s three quarters of Maguire’s plus Maguire’s potential fee, then you throw in Lindelof on £120K a week and Evans on £65K a week both coming off the wage bill and you’re looking at around £1 million a month in wages saved.

If the club have a genuine plan in place then we’ve no choice but to accept it and trust them but if it’s just a case of bringing players in because they’re free with no plan to move players on and just hoping someone comes in for them then I’m not for it at all as we’ve got a bloated wage bill full of players that don’t fit yet another coaches set up and should already be working behind the scenes on outgoings and incomings so they’re in place by early July and Amorim can be given the best chance possible through pre season.
That all makes far too much sense.

I do think that Maguire will stay now though - I think he's proven that he's a good player to have in the squad.

What!!! You can't be serious.

If he is fast, strong has good skills on the ball then I'd definitely would like to see him signed as we need that kind of player to play central CB in order to become a better team.

Half a dozen matches, 1 match, a 16 year old

Don’t rule it out. We’re about to lose the experience of Evans & Lindelof. Maguire will be final year so there is a chance he may be sold

If Fredericson or Kukonki are ready, they’ll get a loan move before we go into a season relying on them. Our senior center backs are Maguire, De Ligt and Martinez. With Yoro and Heaven, you need atleast one more to have adequate depth, especially considering Martinez is injury prone and none of the senior players have adequate pace in them to play together.

Well no hence why out defensive record isn’t very good. We’ll obviously prioritise attack as the biggest need but I’m pretty sure we won’t be neglecting CB

We’ve seen saying for years now ‘this will be fine if we have a bit of luck with injuries for once’ but the fact is we never do. Not planning for it would be neglectful at this point.

A bit unsure about this, while Tah has excelled in a 3 CB system with Alonso, and therefore can transition well into ours, the biggest doubt I have about him is that he has a weakness against physical/quick strikers, of which there would be plenty in the EPL. I wouldn't say he's the strongest mentally as well and there will be plenty of pressure playing for United as well.

Would love a German at the club but Tah isn't exactly the most exciting option. I do hope, if does come, that he replicated his Leverkusen form because he has been really good the last couple of years.

In terms of what he's good at, he's good at passing out from the back and is aggressive in defending.

We also have Shaw (if fit) and Mazraoui. I agree we could need one more, but not this summer since priorities are elsewhere. Tah is overrated and would cost a lot. I doubt he would come to be backup to Maguire and De Ligt as he is similar to them. Also quite overrated. He will have huge wage demands, too. And he'll have better offers eventually (Bayern, Barca obviously, maybe even Real).
