I don't think there are cheap flights to anywhere in France or Spain left by now

Spurs being there makes it even worse on flights being booked out from UK airports, was similar for Moscow 2008

Just found an EasyJet one from Manchester to Paris for £100 return (out on Tuesday, back on Thursday or Friday) From London is £58. Another £100 or so to rent a car. Not the most seamless journey but would be a good laugh with a few going

With a 1 year old at home, I needed the quickest journey there and back so I've paid the £735 in/out via Sport Options.

With a one year old you should be looking at the longest journey possible to give you some peace

I'd be paying for the fallout when I eventually return home all summer for sure. 24 hours away I can get away with hopefully

Fly to Madrid and take the train from there. All flights close to Bilbao have gotten too dear.

Note that from Madrid there's only a couple of direct trains a day (one early, one in the afternoon), and it's not super fast (the curse of the mountain ranges in the North - like 4h40. Driving would be 3h40 from the airport. A couple of useful apps:
- Omio which shows you the various possible routes by train, bus, etc.
- Rentalcar which compares prices from various rental agencies for a car (select from Madrid Barajas airport, and be careful between T4 or T1-2-3 cos they're quite far from one another, rental cars are either in T1 or in T4)

If anyone ends up going via Madrid and needs any info for the city here, feel free to DM me!

Not going myself unfortunately but one of lads is looking at flying in to Toulouse. Rent car.4 hour drive to Bilbao he said.

We're flying into Bordeaux, via 1.5 hr stopover at Berlin airport. 3 hours ish by rental car. Staying up all night in Bilbao and driving back on the Thursday same journey in reverse. About £250 per head for 3 of us.

Nice, I was going to suggest Bordeaux. Easy little airport to navigate in and out of, and you literally hit the motorway straight out of the airport and down to the Spanish border. Parts of the A63 are tolled though so keep that in mind.

Just be aware to make sure your rental car covers that part of Spain. We got a rental car whilst holidaying around Bordeaux and for whatever reason it only covered us to San Sebastian rather than the entirety of the Basque country, probably because of the port there.

Bus from Madrid is a good option. There are buses from barajas airport to Bilbao bus station(next to the stadium)

For the ones coming by car, unless you arrive early in the morning, parking will be complicated.
Best option is to park in Bilbao Exhibition center (BEC) and take the metro to the center (10min)

There is something I found that I no longer need that might be useful for someone, it has crept up all day in price though but still looking cheaper than other options.

Fly to Málaga from Manchester Tuesday night (arrive approx 1.15am), fly from Málaga to Madrid Wednesday morning (arrive approx 9.45am) and get a bus, train or hire car to Bilbao from there. Plenty of time. Then there's an early flight home from Barca to Manchester on Friday, 7.40am departure. You can hire cars one way from Madrid and drop off at El Prat airport, but Bilbao looks connected by a 5-6 hour train to Barca. This morning the 3 flights were coming in at £150! Has risen since but still sub £200 last time I checked.

I'm flying from Stansted to Poiters in France for only 15 quid. Still only £24 on the ryanair website.

Arrive in Poiters the day before the game. Getting the train to Bordeux (1hr 15 mins) later that night followed by the bus down to Bilbao (4hrs 45 mins).

Cheap as chips

That's extremely similar to what I'm doing.

Tuesday: Manchester > Berlin > Bordeaux Renting a car and driving to Bilbao. Staying for 2 nights in Bilbao then the same journey back only the layover is in Brussels.

A shade under £500 and that includes the car and accomodation.

All booked. Fly to Geneva Tuesday evening. Flight to Madrid 7am on Wednesday, arriving there for around 9am. A mate is driving us into Bilbao from there. Should arrive about 1pm.

I went there last year for a wedding. Found a decent (aka not that costly) flight route to Biarritz via Paris and took a very cheap bus (about two hours) to and from Bilbao from there. Make it a longer trip and visit the beautiful San Sebastian while you're in the region

Manc———>Barcelona - one night in Barça and then flight to Bilbao on Weds
Coach to Madrid on Thursday and fly home In the evening

Birmingham - Santander. Monday to Friday.
Got a hire car to get around, but I've also booked an Alsa coach to and from Bilbao so I can get on the beers.

Cheer loud! I checked tickets on third party sites and they are insane amounts. Was thinking of flying over for the match but just doesn't make sense at those prices.

If anyone is using sportsbreaks - check out the reputable cashback sites before you book. They’re offering 5% back on bookings and as they’re not cheap, will be worth a few pints.

DM if you want to details

Just a word of caution on car hire in France. A lot of hire agreements don't cover you to cross into France. The border is open of course, but your insurance won't cover you unless it's agreed in advance. If you can do the European leg by train, preferably by flying to Madrid or even Barcelona, do it by train.

Mental this. We went on holiday to Bilbao three weeks ago - flew from Manchester there and back and the return was £105.

Madness of supply and demand
