What now?

We’re not a Champions League quality side and will finish the season exactly where we deserve to.

No European football means we can cut the squad. Ship out a host of players who have no business playing for a club like this and start afresh.

You can count the number of senior players who deserve a place in this squad on your hands.

Build a small, hungry squad of quality players who want to learn and be better.

If Amorim brings in his own players next year, gets rid of the deadweight, and we still look awful. Then we can have a serious conversation.

What on Earth has Amorim shown to allow him to bring his own players?
Thus far he’s simply shown us he can’t coach as well as Eric fecking Ten Hag. His only purchase looks utter wank.

If we’d won tonight, we could maybe have signed some players at Champions League quality because of being in that competition, which may have dragged us up the league.

As it is now, we’re going to be lucky to sign any decent players. I don’t think there’s many that are going to be willing to sign for the pure joy of the shirt.
Yep. We’re going to come up very short in the market.
I’ll admit it’s an emotional reaction, but at this point it’s hard to get myself excited about watching us next year. I’ve never purposefully not tuned into a United game even in the darkest of post-Fergie days, but if this is just what we are now and what we are going to be moving forward, what’s even the point?
Same here.
Let’s go full on Dallas Cowboys. No need to win the EPL/Champions League for 29 years and focus on commercialisation, entertainment documentaries/gossip and the stadium rebuild. We have been eclipsed by Spurs and Big Ange. One of the promoted teams might just survive next season…
We already are the Cowboys of the PL.

Luckily we’re already signing Cunha. But we can kiss goodbye to Gyokeres
We could sign Mbappe. It won't make any difference.
We struggle to create chances for our attackers.
The system and personnel need to change.
And I think we need to change the manager, who has completely failed.

I still think this season is an outlier and we won't be this tragic again next season, but mid-table mediocrity it is until the foreseeable future.

If Amorim stays I can see things continuing on as they have this season and that is simply relegation form. There are just too many players not up to it with a manager massively out of his depth.

At least under Ten Hag he seemed to have a plan and managed to get results. Amorim hasn't shown any tactical nous, he has one system and needs such specific individuals to work and yet the club are unlikely to give him the budget to get the players he needs to stand half a chance of turning this around.

We looked as clueless under him as we did under Moyes when he threw Fellaoni up front and lobbing balls into the box. Except Amorim throws Maguire up there. At least Moyes has proven himself in the premier league though and has turned Everton around in a quarter of the time Amorim has had.

I want to see a mass culling at United. A full on fire sale. Invest in cheaper, talented young players and build a whole new culture.

We keep buying a handful of players every year and it makes no difference. They eventually become part of the problem as the negative influence of long serving players rubs off on them.

We're in 16th with no European football. Now is the time for significant change.

That’s good because only 3-5 of them deserves to stay anyway.

We need a hard reset instead of papering the cracks like we’ve been doing for over 10 years. Rangnick got the idea right but they fecked him over.

Move every player above 25 if possible, get hungry players who want to prove themselves and make the step up. Sick of watching us being physically dominated in every fecking game.

No, it's bad. Because the same people are in charge, but they now have limited choice compared to if they won.
Sure, several players shouldn't stay at the club, but having less funds does not help that situation. That just leads to us keeping players we'd want to replace.

Also, Rangnick was not a good manager here. He had the worst win percentage since Frank O'Farrell in the 70s. For all of Amorim's horor stats, Rangnick did worse. He's not someone to hold up as a good example of anything. Dude gave up. 37% wins compared to 54% in Ole and Ten Hag who were before and after.

Bruno is fine as CM. It won't be the same problems if we address the attackers. We had 71% possession today, Spurs did feck all and won by literally just standing in their box and lumping a few hopeful crosses in and we bundled the ball into our own net. Its a perfect representation of our season. We have 0 attacking threat, opponents know this, they aren't scared of us and so it makes it an impossible task for our midfield too.

He's not fine as CM. This team never plays through midfeild. Its all wide. They struggle with the press. Its mainly because the spaces between the defenders and midfielders is so huge. You watch Vithna. He always available for the pass. He'll come short, take the ball pass it back and then get the ball back. He's great in tight spaces and great control. That allows to dribble past players or pivot to break the press. And his timing of passes is way better. Bruno is always looking foward. Vithna will hold, sometimes he will play it long and sometimes shot. That gives his team more control and allows them to control tempo of the game.
We need someone like that, like a Modric or like Debryune in his prime. Someone great in tight spaces, knows when to play long and knows when to play short. Otherwise we will never be a great possession team. UTD do well in counter attack because their midfield can't play any other way

A long walk in the wilderness I think. Players won’t want to come and we won’t be able to pay them astronomical wages to incentivise them.

Amorim needs to go now. Unlucky for him as he didn’t want to come when he did, but to finished 17th with a squad which has obvious talents is criminal.

A ruthless clear out of playing staff is needed. Although I don’t know who we bring in

Massive rebuild and a much smaller squad. Some huge decisions to make on Garnacho, Mainoo and dare I say it, maybe even Bruno who is by far our best player (terrible tonight though) .
All the players you have mentioned, under a good manager, would be decent.
Amorim has taken us to 16th place in the league. Any manager, even Pep G, would've been sacked for that.
The manager has to go, unfortunately. He is arguably one of the worst managers I have seen in the EPL.

We'll give Amorim a transfer window and some time....but if he fails, can we please lure Naglesmann from the German NT after WC 2026? Just give it to Giggseh

The worst thing is we still have one game left, at least when we lost today, we could've closed to book on this season

There is clearly only one way forward now: back Amorim in the transfer market, let him build his own squad, and see what he can do without the distraction of European football next season.

I have no doubts about his leadership qualities or coaching ability. If he ever gets us into contention for the title I think his system might be a problem, because teams with a back three rarely win this league. But his system is not so bad it's the reason we're 16th.

Onana, Lindelof, Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Hojlund and Zirkzee should all be up for sale and the more of them we can replace, the better. I really like Dalot and Zirkzee, but the former doesn't fit the system and the latter isn't quite good enough for United, although I often enjoy watching him.

Look likes to time for a major reset but who is going to lead that! After that disgraceful performance in a European final and the absolutely horrific season we are lightyears away from where we want to be.

No European football next season, and I don't even think we'll qualify next year.

We'll be lucky in be the league at the rate we are going, can"t keep clean sheets and we can't score goals - kind of essential for football!

Plus I don't see us playing in a European final for sometime, I can't believe how we turned out tonight. Maybe we'll turn up in pre season!

It's not an easy question to answer. It's definitely a chance to trim the squad since we don't need a bigger squad. But I have doubts over whether Amorim can actually be successful with how he wants us to play. If it were any other manager who'd probably play a more conventional 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3, I'd be saying we build around our younger players like Yoro, Garnacho, Amad and Mainoo. But 2 of those players don't even seem to fit the system.

Nagelsmann won't touch us. This ship has sailed

Any last shred of big-club fear factor we might’ve had going into this match is totally gone now. You simply cannot be THAT team that would bottle it in the final against freaking Spurs.

They are good players and there will be a lot of fuss if Garnacho and Mainoo are sold but funds will probably have to be raised if we persist with this manager and his system where there’s probably not room for either player. The club has to make a decision on the manager and those players who actually do have some sale value.

Hire a pragmatic manager (Xavi maybe?) who can get the best out of the players at his disposal and stop hiring these hipster managers who need special players to make their system work (remember the "ten Hag just needs De Jong and we will be balling like his Ajax team"?)

United need to go back to it's roots. Although people turn their nose up at it, hungry young players like Delap is the way imo.

Well we’ve got a a multi billion stadium to look forward to despite an awful product on the park

We don't play through midfield because this system forces 100% of progression through the wing backs. It focuses the ball among the CBs and the CM's, and then we have one fewer attacker than normal because of the system, and the attackers who we have to pick out are a charity case who wouldn't start for the relegated sides, Mount who has always been an invisible man, and then Amad to just do every bit of progressing or Garna when he plays. But it's never both of them on unless we're desperate (we actually started progressing on the left side once he came on).

Also, ha. Yes, every single club in the world can use someone like Modric in his prime, he's one of the best midfielders of all time

We ain’t changing the manager. People need to get that out of their heads. Cunha will add to the goals and assist. A ST is the real issue here. We do create enough chances but even when we don’t we need a ST that even if we play poor he’ll get 1 chance and score it.

The only positive is that it will accelerate sale of the club, Ineos are clowns too so Glazers will sell to a third party and force Ineos along (which they can do). And for those opposed to state ownership, don’t bother, I think Qatar will be back to buy out .
If Qatar do buy us, they will be ruthless.
I'd expect them to rip everything apart and start from scratch. But I just don't see us being bought out by Qatar.
When INEOS took over, everybody was singing their praises. When they were failing, people were making excuses, but I knew from the get-go that they were making poor decisions.
The first season under INEOS has arguably been our worst for decades.

He is arguably one of the worst managers I have seen in the EPL.

Bares all of the hallmarks of a man who struck gold on a formula at the right time in Portugal. His insistence on doing the same thing every single week & failing isn’t something to be lauded, it’s proof he’s so far out of his depth, the man has drowned.

Looks like one of the worst managers you’ll ever see in this league.

Someday, out there in a far far away galaxy the gods will answer our prayers and united will be kings of England and Europe once again. Just hope that is soon, if only we could predict the furture.

You think that if we buy 1 player (a striker), that most of our problems will be solved?
You can't seriously be thinking that.

Winning tonight would have been massive, since if the last 4-5 years haven't been a great indicator, the problem with Manchester United is the players. CL football would have allowed us to potentially sign better players.

Our 2 best players are in their 30s. Amad is pretty good. The likes of Mainoo and Yoro could potentially have a great season next year if they get their shite together. Out of the entire team sheet, literally nobody else is anything close to quality. With CL football we may still have needed 1-2 more years to build a decent squad, but without it, we're looking at 4-5.

It wasn’t massive the last time we won it, all it did was paper over the cracks. This is years to fix and we need a completely different profile of player. One year of Champions League football would have been a boost but that’s about it.

There are benefits to not having European football as well and we have to make the most of them.

What defines this club for the next decade is whether we improve our recruitment consistently, not whether or not we won tonight.

I am old enough to have see United play as far back as under Ron Atkinson. This season is easily the low point. The Europa was a nice distraction, but given we bottled the final it just is unacceptable from the players, management and the board.

You think that if we buy 1 player (a striker), that most of our problems will be solved?
You can't seriously be thinking that.
Where did I say that? I don’t think I did. It will go a long way in helping solve some of the issues. We can’t score goals so yes the main issues are up top. The 2 10s and the ST are responsible for scoring and creating.

Get rid of most of these players! I am not just talking about this game but season in general. If Onana or Hojlund are anywhere close to the team in the last game against villa (which I don't really care about), Amorim, go feck yourself!

No European football means we can cut the squad. Ship out a host of players who have no business playing for a club like this and start afresh.

Build a small, hungry squad of quality players who want to learn and be better.

These two points are a contradiction of one another in some ways. You don't acquire these young quality players without European football to boot. Especially in a year that will have strong international consequences for squad selection.

It's an oversimplification because United already have young players with amicable qualities and the majority of them are underperforming aside a young Yoro in defence.

This season is reflective of the manager, he didn't walk into a team that was 16th in the league with a dismal win ratio but that's what his influence has produced.

We have heard the same rhetoric with Jose, Ole, Erik and now Amorim being sign players to better the position. It just doesn't work, a manager has just as much accountability as the players, hence why United have spent over 900 million in 10 years having very little to show for it.

Hire a pragmatic manager (Xavi maybe?) who can get the best out of the players at his disposal and stop hiring these hipster managers who need special players to make their system work (remember the "ten Hag just needs De Jong and we will be balling like his Ajax team"?)

Nothing wrong with Delap. It just not going to help us and turn this nonsense system into something usefull. Amorim is not flexible. He looks like a nice guy but you are right we need someone who can adapt, work with what we have aim for something realistic like TOP 10 then TOP 4 the year after if it works. Then buythe best young players we can afford and biuld the team around then. Change the tactics based on the opponent.

We'll give Amorim a transfer window and some time....but if he fails, can we please lure Naglesmann from the German NT after WC 2026? Just give it to Giggseh
If anyone replaces Amorim I’d rather it be Enrique… a very good 4-3-3 he plays. Trouble is now though if we’re backing Amorim to sign players for a back 3 then we’d have to target another manager that plays a back 3.

3 more years of Groundhog day, and we then sell our talents while the Glazers will show no signs of emotions while doing so. The transformation to an Everton-like club will be complete.
