What now?

I said it before the game that I thought we'd have a better league season next season if we lost this tbh. But we really just need to but a striker who is actually good enough to wear the #9 shirt. I don't care about any other position, I'd comfortably sacrifice every other signing just to buy a starting striker and nothing else.

Yeah, i share the same thoughts. The only problem is the money that comes from the Champions League.

As a club we're in freefall now. I have zero faith in anyone at the club knowing how to turn this around.

Relegation is a very real possibility given the state of things. I think fans need to accept the days of being a top team are gone for the foreseeable and need to acknowledge that.
I still think this season is an outlier and we won't be this tragic again next season, but mid-table mediocrity it is until the foreseeable future.

Either we sack Amorim or we back him with half a new squad. Because this squad and Amorim isn't working and one or two half decent additions won't change that

I don't think it's knee-jerk. I genuinely feel the same way. We absolutely, positively needed to win that to jumpstart our rebuild and we didn't. It's going to take a lot longer now and us languishing in mid-table in the league for the foreseeable future is an almost certainly.
Absolutely this. It can’t see when we’ll win the league again. This game has probably cemented our status as the new Everton.

We’re fecked, basically. We’re going to be looking at Liam Delap as our main striker next season, and I think we’ll be very lucky if Bruno is still with us next season.

Maybe knee jerk, but I really do think this is so damaging.
Its not a knee jerk. Everyone knows no CL means massive blow. Thats why players were under pressure (not like many of them will be here net season if we are lucky). In our situation CL could have been a game changer. We are right above the relegation zone, have won nothing, playing boring football with a manager who knows only one formation an zero tactcs. So now of we sign Delap and 2-3 Dorgu-like signings will his formation work? Who wants to join a sinking ship?

Look at the bright side. You'll have to watch fewer United matches next season.

Hopefully the TV stations will panic when the subscription numbers go down next season.

Probably will get heat for this. But we need to accept a full rebuild, move players on and bring in almost a new first team.

Be bold, cash on on Bruno if there is a 100m offer from Saudi. Take what you can for the players on loan plus one of Mainoo or Garnacho.

Let's start again properly.

Club need to think hard on Amorim, back him properly or move him on.

If we’d won tonight, we could maybe have signed some players at Champions League quality because of being in that competition, which may have dragged us up the league.

As it is now, we’re going to be lucky to sign any decent players. I don’t think there’s many that are going to be willing to sign for the pure joy of the shirt.

Amorim should go. The expectations were possibly low, with a level of mediocrity expected, but nothing has changed since his first game. We’ve regressed. It’s clear we ended up just forgetting about the league and focussing on Europa. It’s clear to anyone with a brain that the Europa money and CL qualification was massively important.

But losing the final in the way we lost it is possibly the worst scenario for all. For the players, they take no momentum into next season. For the manager, he probably has his hands tied more than he wants with getting new players. For the owners, their patience will start a lot thinner at the start of the season.

We are truly shit and not getting any better. If Amorim stays and first few games of next season don’t show a marked improvement in almost every single area, fans will turn and his position will be untenable.

My opinion is he should go. The project hasn’t worked. Season should never have been this bad. It’s been an utter failure.

The midfield is almost as worse as the striker situation. Bruno is not a CM. Casemiro has no legs. And Ugarte is horrible are carrying the ball foward and with his distribution. If they a striker and don't address midfield, it will be same problems
Bruno is fine as CM. It won't be the same problems if we address the attackers. We had 71% possession today, Spurs did feck all and won by literally just standing in their box and lumping a few hopeful crosses in and we bundled the ball into our own net. Its a perfect representation of our season. We have 0 attacking threat, opponents know this, they aren't scared of us and so it makes it an impossible task for our midfield too.

I see it now, you were mocking us...
No mate.
United seriously need to put hard yards in. Fans need to lower their expectations. Top 6 next season and try build a core of good players. Buying new ones every season does not help. Amorin will bring glory to United.

What does a rebuild mean? Because if it means constantly benching our best young players in Kobbie and Garnacho, I don't want him to rebuild anything. Him being sacked is the best move going forward. You want a rebuild? Get someone who can actually develop young players.

I’ll admit it’s an emotional reaction, but at this point it’s hard to get myself excited about watching us next year. I’ve never purposefully not tuned into a United game even in the darkest of post-Fergie days, but if this is just what we are now and what we are going to be moving forward, what’s even the point?

This will probably end up a blessing in disguise anyway, tbh. What were we realistically going to do in the champions league next year? It has been a crap season and now we need a complete teardown.

If Amorim brings in his own players next year, gets rid of the deadweight, and we still look awful. Then we can have a serious conversation.

In reality champions league papers over the cracks.
We have to use this as a complete reset at the club.
The players who come in over the summer will clearly want to be here if they’re coming without Europe.
On Amorim, he can’t go. Just remember he didn’t want to come in mid season for this exact reason- the squad is unsuited for his system, he said in presser number one he wasn’t going to change his system, he’s stubborn as feck but in the long term will it pay off? Only time will tell. He’s been given 1 20 year old raw wing back by ineos / glazers.
Let’s get through Sunday and the rebuild starts.
Just remember - this football club will never die and we’ll be on the terraces for many years to come.

Let’s go full on Dallas Cowboys. No need to win the EPL/Champions League for 29 years and focus on commercialisation, entertainment documentaries/gossip and the stadium rebuild. We have been eclipsed by Spurs and Big Ange. One of the promoted teams might just survive next season…

Well, we need a massive number of outgoings and new signings, but without Champions League money and no European football to offer new signings.

We have a manager who won’t change his tactics and won’t drop a player as bad as Hojlund.

We have almost a billion quid of debt and the worst owners in football.

We need a new stadium.

As Marcellus Wallace says in the iconic scene in Pulp Fiction, “Oh, that what now.”

A season without international football. The big earners need to leave the club next season, it's not a matter of want but need, our financial survival depends on it. Yes that means Bruno needs to go as well.

We also won't have the pull nor the money to attract players that will instantly improve us, event though we weren't good at finding those players anyways, it's now going to be impossible.

We might also have to cash in on Garnacho to avoid a FFP penalty.

The debt is crushing us on top of all that so you can bet Ineos will look for other stuff to cut cost and make more decisions that will further dampen the mood of Manchester United employees.

I know some people want to be positive for next season but I can't really see any positive right now, we were in a precarious situation before the end of this season and that has gotten even worse.

It’s all a bit of a mess. Feel like this writes next season off.

Really need a reset and get rid of those that been around too long

Maguire
Shaw
Dalot
Lindelof
Casemiro
Bruno
Rashford
Antony

So basically we will have to sell some of our main players to fund a summer rebuild due to there not really being any value in the squad (amazingly)

Bruno, Garnacho, I think Mainoo goes too.

Then we go for "B" and "C" options and try to sell them the idea of the project. Players like Delap and the like. While Gyökeres ends up at Liverpool, Mbeumo at a top club etc.

We spend many years in mid to lower table hell not making any money and the debt goes up.

The club is finally forced to be sold after being completely milked dry and sold to some consortium who just try to make money from it using different strategies.

The club ends up what is has been gearing towards for over ten years - irrelevant.

The club invests in younger, taller and more athletic players and we build our way back up the league

It's shit that we're not in the Champions League. We don't deserve to be there.

The club has utterly built the squad wrong. It's appalling
Agree with everything here, we did not deserve anything from this season. Mismatched, unathletic players and a fat donkey in goal. What did we really expect, winning today would have papered over things that need to be rebuilt rather than plastered over.

Answer is simple, start calling agents that their clients are no longer needed in United. I hope to see most moved with likes of Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Hoijund, Casemiro, Onana, Shaw, Dalot, even good offer for Ugarte, Mainoo, Zirkzee, Dorgu and Garnacho, Bruno for great offer. Only Amad and Yoro keep.

Precisely. Who really wants to join us now that Amorim's rebuild has taken a hit? God forbid we throw money around to make signings for the sake of signings i.e. business as usual on the red corner of Manchester.

This is now a full on tear down and rebuild. It cannot be with Amorim, he has shown nothing to deserve the opportunity and buying players for his system would be a catastrophic mistake. I would seriously consider taking the money for Bruno as part of a clear out, we are awful without him most of the time but he is not getting any younger and we are years away. It has to be a step by step process and the maddening thing is it could have started 12 months ago if we had not bottled the ETH decision and now we are so much further away. We cannot bottle the decision on Amorim.

I’ll admit it’s an emotional reaction, but at this point it’s hard to get myself excited about watching us next year. I’ve never purposefully not tuned into a United game even in the darkest of post-Fergie days, but if this is just what we are now and what we are going to be moving forward, what’s even the point?
To be fair, this is absolutely the darkest of days post fergie. We are absolutely terrible in every regard without much indication as to it changing any time soon.

Look at the bright side. You'll have to watch fewer United matches next season.

Hopefully the TV stations will panic when the subscription numbers go down next season.

You'll notice they've already started opting to show "the other game" if the times clash.
