Dippers and striker purchases

That's a bit strong innit?

Well of course they are, better than the bulk of them anyway although Litmanen and Morientes were certainly in that class in their day and to all intents and purposes Torres is already. I was responding to the 'and they cost £90m this little lot', from Cnut, well I dont see how £90m on 15 players is a lot of money?

That's the point.

Why buy 15 crap players when you could buy half a dozen good ones who could perform for you for years to come, so you don't have to rebuild the squad from scratch every two years.

Your record in the transfer market in your barren spell has been pathetic. You've spent more than United, but instead of buying quality you have to replace the flops every season or two.

He's right everytime he says it though. You scousers know it aswell.

Keep saying it long enough Jason and eventually the little men in the van will come and take you away.

Great job in addressing the point and not just spouting random abuse instead of talking about your football club's abject failures.

You're the one who's clueless you thick cnut.

You guys do back up Jason's point that if you disagree when someone states something a little bit truthful you end up spouting a load of abuse than instead of addressing the situation.

Another sterling, insightful, and on topic post from Murph.

I'm so glad you lot are willing to talk openly and candidly about the failures of your club. It is a joy to read and participate in such an open and frank dialogue.

We have been over and over this point at least 10 times before. feck repeating the same old shit again.

The thread is about your purchases.

If you don't want to talk about your purchases, a bit of good advice might be to not bother to read or post in the thread.

If you don't have anything to add, no need to add it.

Jason. It's like Groundhog day except with that at least eventaully you get to leave the cinema. You keep on saying the same old thing over and over, it's tedious it's boring and it's inaccurate. You've posted selective 'stats' to prove (sic) your point that we've spent more than United. as has been repeatedly shown you've been sussed, the time frame chosen for this legendary post to back up your claim (which has been on here a zillion times) manages to exclude the Ferdinad and Veron transfers by about 5 minutes (£58M?) plus what you've already spent on the three big signings this year (£45M?) plus probably Tevez who will cost feck knows but certainly more than £20m if you buy him outright.

It's creative accounting Jason but it's a white elephant and it's been done to death. Grinding people down until they get so fecked off they can't be arsed anymore is not the same as winning the argument..

Excuse me mate but I reckon 'clueless scouse bastards' deserves a bit of abuse back, don't you?

Noticed the dippers have flogged off Bellamy and Cisse now, two players who the world was told by the dipper-fans would be great players at Liverpool...

Since the summer of 1999 - i.e. in 8 years, Liverpool have signed 15 strikers!

What team wouldn't want to take their pick from this list of fine strikers...?

Titi Camara
Erik Meijer
Emile Heskey
Jari Litmanen
Milan Baros
El Hadji Diouf
Florent Sinama Pongolle
Djibril Cisse
Fernando Morientes
Peter Crouch
Robbie Fowler
Craig Bellamy
Dirk Kuyt
Andriy Voronin
Fernando Torres

+
Sjølund
El Zhar

And they paid more than £90m for this lot as well.
A strikers grave yard. I fear for Torres...

Murphman and other Anfield apologists seem to justify these purchases largely on the fact that they were profitable financially because they made their money back when the strikers were sold on later after failing to have great impact. But big clubs aren't expecting to make money on transfers - that's what small clubs rely on. Big clubs want their transfers to stay a long time and bring success.

In buying all these strikers, Houllier and Benitez have wasted a more valuable commodity than money .... time. Pool's rivals couldn't care less if they make a profit on these transfers so long as the team is 20 points behind each season. On the other hand, we lost 10 million on Ruud, but, more importantly, he brought us 150 goals and some success.

Nail on the head.

I really doubt any of you watched an awful lot of Liverpool last season as you all continue this myth that its all down to Rafa's defensive tactics.

We had two problems last season on the premiership. Our early away form where we couldn't pick up 3 points and being able to break down teams that played us for the draw.

There were alot of games last season where we had lots of posession and had teams on the back foot for the majority of the game but just couldn't break them down and score.

This was not because our intentions were defensive but rather the team we faced were exactly that and we had trouble finishing them off. Despite lots of chances. There was the odd game like at Villa which is the kind of example were we were also to blame from a tactics point of view but that was the rare occasion.

This talk of two defensive midfielders is complete cock aswell. We usually only ever played 2 out of our 4 central midfielders and not 3 as you all seem to suggest.

If we get Torres I imagine we'll get one more striker with Bellamy on his way out. We only paid six for the lad due to a release clause and we'll definately get anywhere from 10 or more for him.

We then need to pick up a left sided winger and if we can someone class for the right side. We do also need maybe a back up center half.

How we start the season is vital and its one of the main points SAF raised this season about your campaign. How vital it was to start well and keep up with Chelsea as the previous seasons had seen them build a lead up.

I'm not saying were going to win the league and neither is any Liverpool fan but were probably not as far away as you all love to think.

Chances are we'll be chasing Chelsea anyhow. There gona start the season alot more settled and as the end of last season showed can replicate their machine like production of wins.

And he's going for 7.5M you muppet!

I couldn't give a monkey's if we have spent more than you. Why does everyone get so hung up on transfer fee's anyway, the amount a club spend's on player wages is surely just as, if not more relevant to a club's chances of success is it not?

We spent about £15m more than you on wages last season, so it's not a great surprise that we have better player's and managed to finish ahead of you in the league. Having said that, Chelsea's spent £20m more than ourselves on wages last season, which puts our success into perspective.

What you have to bear in mind though is that all of our costs/transfer fee's are paid for from revenue generated from our fan base. We don't have a sugar daddy like at Chelsea.

The fact that we have a bigger fan base than you, bigger stadium than you, generate more money than you and spend more on the playing staff is of no embarrassment to me. I don't get angry when a Crewe fan moans that we're only successful because we have more money than them, why should it bother me when a Liverpool fan says the same? Catch up cnuts.

You're not claiming to have spent less than usthough are you? Unlike Jason, about once a week.

So 10/10 for missing the point.

I'm not apologising for anything, in yet another thread about Liverpool I went through the 15 players listed as flops (2 of whom haven't even played yet)and tried to put things in perspective.
