City target Dos Santos

Barcelona's 18-year-old forward Giovani dos Santos has emerged as a leading target for Manchester City, according to the player's father Zizinho. The Mexico international broke into Barca's senior ranks ahead of schedule last season, but this term has seen first team opportunities limited. Fellow starlet Bojan Krkic has stolen the plaudits this year for his meteoric rise, in a turn of events that has reduced Dos Santos somewhat to the periphery at Camp Nou. City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is likely to be armed with a healthy transfer kitty in the summer and the capture of Dos Santos would likely sate the appetite of the Eastlands faithful for world class talent. Whether the player would make the move to England though, remains very much subject to conjecture. 'There is interest from Manchester City'; Zizinho told Mexican newspaper El Universal. However, I cannot give more information now as Giovani's agent is the one in charge of all this, it's him who is dealing with negotiations.' 'I can't say for sure if Giovani will go to another team. There are still games to play in La Liga and while there are he's only thinking about Barcelona. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, there is interest but first he has to concentrate on Barcelona.' Dos Santos has played 25 times for Barca this season in all competitions, scoring once in a UEFA Champions League game with Stuttgart.
Be interesting to see what City get up to this summer...

Something tells me they will splash the cash in an effort to get closer to the Champions League places... It will be interesting to see the top of the League next year, with us, Arsenal and Chelsea still strong, and Tottenham having a better season I reckon the fight for the 7-8 first places could be tight...

Read that- he wont leave over the summer, he's young enough to know that he has to ride the bench a bit longer. Barca will probably let loose of Ronaldinho this summer so he'll get more chances...

City will splash this summer and Sven has proven he knows what to do on club level- will make things very interesting... Liverpool better start cutting the loose ends or they'll have a lot more trouble there way next season

Wow, the young players are getting so young nowadays that even at 18, highly rated players are deemed failures it seems. Dos Santos looked the real deal in the youth teams at both club and national level, surely if he's had a few patchy performances at 18, that doesn't make him rubbish?

k14 - he's good, but he's not on the level of a Bojan, Aguero, Anderson, Pato etc. Plus, his attitude stinks...

I think this is one player we should leave alone. Dos Santos is talented but is clearly not consistent enough for the Premier League. If Man City think they can do better, let them bid all they want.

While i don't particularly want us to sign Dos Santos, nor do we need him, again, i find it remarkable that people don't want us to sign a 'talented' 18 year old because he is 'inconsistent'.

He and his agent have been asking for a wage increase while he's hardly been playing. He thinks he's big time already.

While Barcas other young talent Bojan has been getting games and scoring goals. Apparently he's a modest, well grounded young lad - total contrast to Dos Santos.

Though Dos Santos could still turn out to be a top player, he has the talent from what I have seen of him.

Spurs discuss £7m move for Barcelona striker Dos Santos

"Tottenham are in pole position to sign Barcelona's Giovani dos Santos after discussing a £7million deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder, son of former Brazil international Zizinho, has been interesting Manchester City and Chelsea but his preference is to join Tottenham manager Juande Ramos.

Giovani has endured a rough ride in Spain where he has failed to win over the crowd fully despite some outstanding performances. He scored a hat-trick against Real Murcia during the last game of the season earlier this month - and he has staunch supporters within the game.

One is former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard, currently linked with the vacant Chelsea job, who told the teenager he would take him to his next club.

Ramos sees the slightly-built Mexico international as a player who can develop and provide the ammunition for his strike force as he continues to rebuild for next season."

Would be nice ... I hope the story is true and that Ramos has used his persuasive powers to extol the attractions of joining Modric in the evolving Spurs team.

Maybe, yes ... even probably.

But you never know, if we signed dos Santos and somehow pulled Veloso out of the hat to go with him and Modric, Berbatov just might be persuaded that next season could be worth him sticking around for:

----------- Veloso --------
Lennon --- Modric - dos Santos

Not a bad midfield to be playing in front of, though probably a pipe-dream ;)

Still, I haven't yet abandoned absolutely all hope of Berbatov staying.

It seems pretty apparent that Berbatov wants to go. The only reason I could see him staying would be if Spurs price him out of any move. If they do that, I'm not sure how professional he would be (he'd most likely act like a tosser until they're forced to sell him in January).

In that midfield he'd have to fight for his place, just like Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves have to fight for theirs in Man. Utd's team.

But Jenas is versatile. He can play well in RM, so maybe Lennon would lose out. Or maybe in some games we'd play with a 5-man midfield. Or maybe dos Santos would have to fight for his place and Modric would play LM with Jenas in AM.

The permutations would be endless and a nice problem to have.

If you indeed get that midfield and can keep a defence consisting of Bale, Woodgate, King and Hutton and manage to keep them all fit, you could well get that top 4 next season.

Spurs are going to kick ass next year I'm sure.

Haha.

Got to hand it to Glaston, he's an optimistic son of a gun. I doubt they'll sign Dos Santon.

Though I'll be sure to watch Modric closely next season, I really like this guy.

If King is fit for 80% of spurs matches next season then they'll have a good chance of the top 4, however in the more likely event that he will hardly play, they won't get close.

Forget about Eto'o and Dos Santos, Spurs are in desperate need of at least 1 top class centre-half and a goalkeeper.

I don't think you are even close to signing Veloso or Dos Santos.
