I walk very fast :D

Shepherd's Bush is a dump.

Fulham Broadway is less so, with the advantage of being on the doorstep of King's Road, The Boltons, South Kensington etc.
And whom, might I enquire, do you know who lives in The Boltons?

(and Shepherd's Bush is charming, bustling, vibrant, cosmopolitan....

OK. It's a dump...)

Quite a few. Why?
Well, bearing in mind that, as you no doubt realise, The Boltons is a street off Old Brompton Road with no more than a few dozen houses on it, and that the cheapest of those houses might, in these straitened times of plumetting house prices, go for as little as ten million pounds, I merely wondered as to the elevated social circles in which you move.

I do realise that in Estate Agent-ese any old street between Earl's Court Road and the South Ken end of Gloucester Road (I used to live there too - in Emperor's Gate) is now dignified with the term near The Boltons.

But actually to live on that street is, er, frightfully flash to say the least.

I know. Lived there myself once (rented, not owned).

But, yes, I did use the more lose term of The Boltons in my first mention of the place. Not as lose as the one above though :)

The Blatters and Platinis of this world will be even more determined to break the power of the PL now. There is already a possibility that each country will have fewer places in the CL so the attractions of English football clubs will lesson in foreign investors eyes. Then there is the 6+5 proposal. No, all this silly money era is only temporary imo.

Maybe. But I wouldn't underestimate the power of these guys. Money is everything. Platter and Blatini are just sporting versions of Eurocrats; pompous, self-important, lazy, but ultimately corrupt.

Chelsea already had lots of stars before Roman turned up.

But, just as before he turned up, after he turned up they still do not manage wrestle players from the likes of Liverpool and United.

Same with City. They will have to buy players from clubs who are not United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real etc, unless these clubs see it fit to get rid of the players in question.

Even if United accepted a £150m bid for Ronaldo, or Liverpool for Torres, the players would not accept the transfer.
Theres no way that you can be so sure of that. Take Ronaldo for example , this Arab chap says to him name what ever you want and its yours all you have to do is sign on the dotted line , do you not think he or someone of quality would be interested in that offer. Roman moved the goal posts i have a feeling that this chap has removed the goal posts. City have landed themselves a very nice large golden egg.

Also down here in SA who would of thought that Carlos Ferraria would every coach Banana Banana but he did why money talks.

Also Chelsea did in a way take players of United , Robben , Essien and that Nigeria cnut. Those three players would all of ended up at United if it wasnt for our Roman.

No, can't be sure.

No, I don't think Ronaldo can be lured from United to City.

Im sure that's what people would've said about hald of Chelsea's players. If in a few years City become a team loaded with bought talent, then it might not be seen as such a step down.
What players did Chelsea bring in that would normally not have gone to Chelsea, a club that already had had players like Vialli, Desailly, Gullit, Zola etc playing for them?

Lets have a look at this scenario City come January are knocking on 4Th place , come the end of the season they pip the Scousers for that Champions League spot then we are looking at a whole new ball game whether City can attract the biggest players. If the promise of champions league football , increased wages and massive transfer figures then city shall and will attract those so called super stars of today's game.

Not the top players from the traditionally top clubs, unless these clubs are looking to get rid.

All those players were near the end of there careers so it was a nice pay day. Chelsea without money were in the same boat has city no champions league football and were not the preferred destination for world stars.

Nah, as they proved both Zola and Desailly had plenty of years left in them.

Chelsea was already an attractive destination, more so than Manchester City.

And still, Chelsea did not manage to wrestle the top, top players away from the top clubs when Abramovich came in.

City are even less likely to manage it.

Now this could of been paper talk but didnt Milan say that they would of accepted 70 million for Kaka. Well if City are playing champions league football next season and come in with a greater bid and lets face Manchester is full of brazilans lately wont he be thinking of that move , i know Milian would be thinking of that nice transfer fee.

No, I very much doubt that Kaka will be playing his football for MAnchester City next season.

Nor will Manchester City be playing in the Champions League next season.

The old Manchester City i totally agree with you but this new animal is a different animal and im sure that Robiniho was just the begining. Lets see what January brings or maybe we shall have to wait untill next summer transfer window shall be fun especially if you a Man City fan.

Doesn't matter who they bring in January. The team and squad now is not good enough to compete for a CL spot, and even if they bring in a few very good players in January, it will take time to gel and they will have too much to catch up.

Tbh the City squad is very good if you look at it right now.

At least good to fight with Arsenal and Liverpool for Champions League places.

SWP, Robinho, Petrov, Jo, Waruwari, Elano, Kompany, Richards. FFS i think they have a pretty good chance and just look at what those arabs did at the last day of the transfer window bidding for everybody, just give them the january window and look them getting some new signings. I think we are gonna see City turning into a new Chelsea in a short time.

Their aim apparently is a top four position this season and to win the League and maybe the Champs league next. All very ambitious. What will become clear is that you can't necessarily buy a successful football team. It take a lot more than that. I think perhaps that's one thing Abramovich has learned. He still has some way to go to be the greatest football power on the planet - the stated aim I believe. At the moment, who really wants to play for City ? Robinho of course but not everyone will want to go there just for the cash. They want the glory as well and to play at the top level and that's not guaranteed.

I'm still wondering, if money is absolutely no object, why they didn't go for the real thing and buy United. Everything is in place and by that I mean better than anything City has right now - from playing staff, to management, to the ground, the training facilities, the history, the tradition and not least the greatest brand in world football.

ronaldo will never go to city. he will only ever leave to spain. where city will stock up is with players who are a tier under the world class ones who are currently on 50-85k. But for those who are already making 100k+, it'll be about lifestyle, weather, league, style, prestige, etc. these are things that city cannot overcome.

I guess they want to play the game of building a team into champions - like people playing fm and trying to win the league with Accrington Stanley or something.

I dunno... can they arabs afford to change the Manchester climate? Build a big done over the whole city (and presumably the North of Cheshire, to cover the players' houses) or something?
If so, my attitude to them may start to soften a little!

Could be. If I had that cash I'd want to go for the very best and that certainly ain't City and may never be - no matter how much money is thrown at it. Perhaps they made an offer to the Glazers and were turned down. What did they buy City for anyway - 200m or something ? They would have had to shell out a billion at least for United but that shouldn't have been a problem for these people. By the time they've bought all the best players in the world and built a new stadium, hired the best manager (Hughes may not survive this), the overall cost will be significant. Apart from the challenge thing, buying United would have been money better spent, surely ?

its not just the climate. i've gotten into this before with others on this board and it always seems like i'm slating the UK culture, when i'm not. I'd rather live in the UK than in iberia personally.

but just changing the weather wouldn't change the lifestyle, culture, jene se qua of uk life to match iberian life. even the arabs don't have enough money to change that.

Shame... if they could use their money to swing a 20 hour working week for Mancunians, along with free beer all weekend, I wouldn't give a shit if they signed Pele, Maradonna and Georgie Best!

Well, our actual culture, as in arts, entertainment, food and drink are up there with anybody's, and superior to most. Footballers who complain about not being able to find a decent bite to eat in major UK cities are just being dicks.
However, our culture as in our attitude to things sucks. What Vidic said (or didn't) about us working to hard and not enjoying ourselves enough is spot on. We should spend much less time at work, and appreciate the finer things in life a whole lot more... not sure how this affects footballers, mind!

They may not get 4th this season but if they spend serious money in January and then again in the summer they will get fourth. To be honest I didn't think it would take much to steal fourth from Liverpool or Arsenal and this is more than enough

Obviously if I had the money Id want to buy United. But putting that aside - maybe looking at a foreign country, I think it would be far more satisfying buying a smaller club and building it up. There is more work to do, and therefore it gives you that bit more control. It allows you to build something in your own image, rather than arriving and saying, "OK, as you were, we are already the biggest club in the world so I dont have anything to do, just come and see me when you need some money."

That way, when (IF) City win the league, these guys can say to themselves that it was them that made it happen. Rather than if they had bought us, and they would have to say it may well have happened anyway.

That is the whole point of a hobby. You dont go out and buy a folder with a thousand stamps in it and then pat yourself on the back for having such a great collection. You build it up from the ground. The more work you put in to it, the more satisfaction you get from it.

Plus you'd be seen as a cult figure and have fans singing your name - as they invariably will at City - rather than having fans vandalising their limos and demanding the feck off out of the club, as they probably would have if they had taken us over.

Fair points but you have to weigh up the risks as well. City may never become the greatest club - not even on the pitch. No matter how much success they do achieve they are very unlikely to overtake United's prestigious position as the most glamourous club even in the longer term - just as Liverpool couldn't in the 70's and 80's despite their considerable run of success over the two decades. Also the prestige of owning United would generate considerable and immediate satisfaction. If they took over United and the much feared debt situation was eradicated, I do not see them being maligned at all in the way the Glazers are. They could wallow in the immediate glory (hopefully!) and not have to keep a low profile like the Glazers do. Notwithstanding, I understand where you are coming from on this.

If the Glazers were trillionaires, the takeover hadn't been leveraged and they did their damndest to spend 30 million quid on our local rivals main summer signing, before going on to nick Chelsea's main target, from right under their noses, I reckon their reception would have been very, very different.

But these people don't understand / give a toss about history, heritage and all that. All that matters is the biggest and most expensive. In fact, being shiny and new is a more desirable quality than having a great past. Just take a look at the hideous things being constructed in the Emirates, such as "The World" and "Dubai Land".
