This is the official "bring back our best striker since Denis Law" petition. Don't care how old he is. Would score shit loads of goal in this team.

Sign him up Fergie!

Van der Sar's saved it... United again!
I'd love to see Ruud again at Old Trafford.

I know I'm repeating myself but he's one of my favourite United players of all-time. Yet, it won't happen. Fergie sold Ruud when he was still brilliant and at his peak due to personal problems. Why would he bring him back now when his career is going the downhill due to age? If he was to bring him back now, he wouldn't have sold him in the first place.

Best striker United has ever had.

Because he's still better than anyone we have. And i doubt SAF holds a grudge for that long.

He couldnt wait to get out of here, asked for a transfer which was refused. In his final season his attitude was all wrong , hence let him rot where he is at.

See him back as what though? Certainly not a firm team player in my opinion. He's obviously not in the peak of his career and if I'm honest I always thought our play became very predictable with him in the side at times which made it easier for better opposition. Especially during his last few seasons.

Also then the service isn't impeccable his influence on games could be non -existent,against Villa, the service to the front men was very poor, I really doubt he could have changed our situations.

I hope he stays in Spain or goes back to Holland. If not it would be worth £10 million just not to see him play for another English club.

I would love to see him back here on loan, in a Larsson style deal. I think he would love to come back.

The club has seen better players than Ruud come and go, and in case you've missed it we've done pretty damn well since he left.

I agree with you. But i think he could do a job for us for till the end of the season at least. Rather him than Berbatov or Owen.

I'm pretty sure SAF is very stubborn. If you don't hold grudges for a long time, you won't sell players when they are still at their best.

Even today, he's still a better player than Owen. I also don't think he used to influence our game in a bad way. I read that often on here and I think it's an urban legend. It's not fair to Ruud. He's a brilliant finisher and his all-around play is great. It's not his fault that we used to lack quality at times and he was one of the main factors that made sure we could maintain a place in the top spots of the table.

How long have you been watching United? I would have to say The Lawman.
Ruud (although I am a great admirer of his predatory abilities) could well have learned a thing or two about attitude from him too.
I'm only 22 and on top of that non-native, so obviously I haven't seen Denis Law in action. When I'm talking about players, I'm generally refering only to players that have played football during my time.

Weren't some of you lot accusing him of "slowing down our play" and wanting him out of the club in favor of Saha/Tevez/Rossi/whatever :houllier:

I still love him and thankful for his service, but i place my faith in Berbatov.

I would have definitely taken him back in the summer, though now that we have Owen - I'm not sure if our squad really needs two past it strikers. I'm not criticising Owen by the way, I think he can certainly contribute but I don't think we need two of a similar mould.

Do love Van Nistelrooy though.

ruud is not coming back. saf would never want him back. remember in the frost interview, when frost asked fergie about players that left...keane, becks, ruud....he specifically dismisses ruud as being a united great that keane and becks were and says how the moment he signed ruud, he knew that he always wanted to go to madrid.

Agreed, not a chance

Ruud the year before his deal expired, asked for renew the contract an astronomical figure

The relationship between them became poor, and Fergie putted him on the bench, with Saha as a regular

The youthful Van Nistelrooy would be perfect right now. Just perfect.

It's true, 100%.

But seeing stuff like this thread makes me happy we have who we have running this club... Nostalgia shouldn't be mixed with realism, it's tragic to see people give up on what we have and what we could potentially have (A la Welbeck, Macheda) for a player who is a part of our past.

"Muppet" I believe is the term.

No thanks. I'll keep the good memories.

I hope he doesn't go to Liverpool though.

Given all of the talk about strikers on here since the Villa game, all I've been able to think about is Macheda and how awesome I want him to become. The guy could be a machine!

The signs are certainly good, but the problem United face, as we have done in the past with many talented youngsters, is they become impatient, and then start looking somewhere else. Pique is a prime example.

United need Macheda in the team now. OK it may not work straight away, but it will give him the motivation, and it allows United the time to nurture a relationship with Rooney whereby every week you expect the same two strikers on the pitch. Thats what we are sadly missing.

Personally I would be playing Macheda every game now. Offload Owen. keep Berbatov as a third striker, and then work on the Rooney - Macheda partnership, so that in 18 months time they are a fully fledged coherent unit.

The way its going, he'll be sold within 2 years because no young lad of that age will agree to play maybe 1-2 games a month. Not when they are good enough to warrant first team football in almost any other club in the country.

Can't disagree with this Fred but I'd still hang on to Owen till end of the season.

I can't think of any players that Fergie has signed after selling the player previously. I don't think he will change that anytime soon either and the only player I could see it possibly happening with is Rossi but he chose to leave the club.

The last thing we need is someone who is as unhappy as Ruud is when he sits on the bench. I still remember how much he sulked after being left out of the 2006 Carling Cup Final and being second choice to Saha.
