Get away from media here - Madrid bound

Money - City

Moving clubs citing a lack of ambition by us - Chelsea

I think any potential result other than that would contradict itself.

Do we no for sure that Rooney was stretched off in training or is it yet another smoke screen?

Nobody should be talking about Ronaldo in this thread. Ronny left with SAF's blessing and has always said good things about the club and the fans. This cnut has stabbed all of us in the back.

To me, he's worse then Tevez, worse then Heinze, worse then Ince even...

Very similar this to becks. For those who were here then, read up that thread. Same disbelief, same doubts for the club, SAF has lost it, United are in decline, etc.
It's not very similar to Beckham at all.

(1) Ferguson wanted Beckham out and he wanted to change the way we played.

(2) He knew we had money to rebuild the team better than before.

We only learned one new bit of information today but its interesting all the same. That's the fact Rooney first turned down a contract on aug 14th.

This means rooney can't use a lack of investment in the squad as an excuse (transfer window was still open) and we can be reassured that negotiations were well underway before he entered the last two years of his contract.

Theres alot of that around today. theres also a marked difference to how the older posters are reacting. Says more about todays football fan really.

The club over anyone, full stop. Thanks for the memories Wayne.
Yep, I support Manchester United, not any player.

It's a shame though, I'm sure he will look back with regret.

Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
We've won three premier league titles and the biggest trophy a club team can, the CL, in the last four years. And one year of finishing A SINGLE POINT behind Chelsea and almost making it to the CL final.

We lost two players. One because no reason other than the player being of a certain nationality, and players of that nationality always prefer Spain to England. It would have happened at any English club. And the other because at the time he was well over priced.
well exactly.

Rooney was the best player we have had for some time and it will hurt to lose him. But I won't be wishing him ill. He almost carried us single handedly last season. Some great memories too.

Still think we will do well this season. This may well galvanise the team. SAF will see to that.

The part that hurts me is after all SAF has done for this club and the player, he does not deserve this.

Hope, We Lose
Its a little bit early to start the comparisons really. I mean Rooney could in theory end up deciding he wants to stay and sign a new deal. Or he could insist on signing for a foreign club.

However, he's started this all very very badly. The timing of him saying he wants to leave just as the season is starting, and the lack of any good reason why he might want to leave, mean that he's got some work to do if he's going to leave in a better way then Tevez did. But its not beyond him.

We'll bounce back alright. This is United we're talking about. He was just a jigsaw in the puzzle. He'll be replaced just fine.

What I'm worried about is him moving to another English club. That could come to really haunt us big time. Hope he goes to Real or something. First time I'd ever want Real to take a player off us!!
Dude

Don't worry about that. I am more concerned with SAF - I think he was betrayed like never before.

SAF is a warhorse but to paraphrase Julius Caesar

"Et Tu Wayne?"

Greatest betrayal of a manager.

It has to be money and it has to be City...he's not even listened to our offer so it must have been substantial whatevers turned his head.

feck Rooney. feck the little prick. No player is bigger than this club. Who does he think he is? I hope that he never plays for us again.

We'll need to get as much money off his transfer as possible and rebuild for a season or two.

(Hypothetically in this case of Rooney, lets assume he goes to City/Chelsea/Madrid in January.)

I cant decide in fairness.
Ronaldo of course. I know people say a lot about Ronaldo but he was A) twice the other two on the pitch PUT TOGETHER and b) always honest about his goals in his footballing life. For me I've always looked at Ronaldo, barring the on the pitch antics, as a classy individual. He talks about United with pride and nothing but praise. He's in touch with Fergie and looks at him as a father figure. He feels a certain debt to the club.

Rooney, if all of this is true, is an Englishman, who has never had any fondness for our rivals. And unless he wants to go back to Everton (), whatever his reasons are, do not seem quite right and seem highly unclassy.

I follow Ronaldo's career with fondness for all the great times he gave this club and that he's always has the class to talk about the club in the right manner. If all of this now goes as expected, I'll have nothing but an pure and deep dislike for Wayne Rooney. He was my favorite player. How wrong I was about him.

Fergie announced in his interview, after finding out from Gill, he approached Rooney who denied him that.
No he didn't:

Having learned of Rooney's desire to go, Ferguson requested to speak to the player.

"Dealing with the next step was always going to be decisive for us, how we dealt with the situation," he said.

"I asked to have a meeting with the boy and he reiterated what his agent said, that he wanted to go.
Sounds like they had a meeting to me.

The thing is though what has been in papers has as good a chance of being bullshit as it does of being true. I take everything written with a pinch of salt.

All we know for sure is what Fergie has told us. Fergie has not said he's disrespected the club in any way.
Apart from the one bit where Fergie says that asked Rooney to respect the club..and he didn't. Watch the full interview.

Exactly.

feck off Wayne. Now we can all call you overrated and mention just how poor your first touch has been.
Don't forget the tantrums he throws at everyone on the pitch regardless of who has thrown the ball away.

That always annoys me.

You have to ask why.
That's not necessarily true though. You have to look at the specific cases, of which I assume you're thinking of Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo.

Ronaldo moved to the only club that has more pulling power than United. And considering he was a foreigner in England, and Madrid was his 'childhood' club, there's no need to use this as an example of United not being able to hold onto players.

Tevez wanted to stay but needed more opportunities to play first team football (or so he says). United couldn't guarantee him that, but that's what you have to expect when you're playing for one of the few biggest clubs in the world - you have to earn your place. Then there's team dynamics, game-plans, etc. that need to be considered when selecting the side. Tevez' move to City wasn't really an indication that United can't hold onto their best players.

Rooney... Well this is all yet to be seen for now.

Where the goals come from.
Personally I'll boo the fecker.

I never have and never will boo a player's, or the team's, performance. It's classless and counter-productive.

But I can't stand these ungrateful, backstabbing cnuts like Tevez, Heinze and now, it seems, Rooney.:(
Once they cross the line they are no longer on our side and are there to be booed just as you would when he returned in a City / Chelsea shirt.

This could well be the case here too. If he's being offered silly money then we're priced out of keeping him. Just like Everton were. If he wants out of the UK because of the media circus, well, we have to respect that. The thing is that we know feck all yet the amount of hateful comments here is staggering.

The same individuals who didn't care about his off the field antics feel so bad for Colleen all of a sudden. It's actually quite funny to see so many feel for the Everton supporters...

This is a sad sad day. We will surely find a way to bounce back from not having Rooney around, but still is a huge blow.

He was a player who of the new lot epitomised United's character the most. Desire, skill, drive. And now, this.

With Fergie coming out in the open with all the details, there doesnt seem to be any turning back. Feck.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
Now, have City agreed to the gentleman's agreement to not carry out Webster transfers? Does anyone know?

If not, then Wayne could be their's for £5m.

Fair enough, I agree with a lot of that actually. Although what you're saying contradicts the answer, as I asked who left in the worst manner :D But I know you mean the best manner.

For me i dont think there is no return for him now. The fact SAF mentioned this was all Rooneys own doing means he is simply leaving him open to the world to defend himself now.
I interpret the fact he mentioned it as he took the no contract issue and the england conference as a big feck you for his development and mentorship.

Well, two CL finals later, we still keep on going. Move over Wayne, Chicharito is ready to score goals.
Not at all. I was here and lets face it, Beckham wasn't that good a footballer then. It wasn't a huge loss apart from the fact that he was 'seen' to be our main man although he was far from that.
