Our lad's setting a hell of a bar for himself... a World Cup that gets everybody excited, a full season where he proves to be our first predatory goalscorer since Ruud and Ole were shipped off and retired, respectively, and now he's continuing with some great performances in the Gold Cup.

If he doesn't suffer from second season syndrome, I won't know what to do with myself... Expect to wake up shortly, I suppose.

For some reason I like his Mexican teammate, Guardado. He does not have great pace or flair, but he is an intelligent winger with a good delivery. His club, Deportivo, have been relegated, so he can be a good value signing for some team.

So, he has scored 19 goals in 25 appearances for Mexico so far and 20 in 45 for United where he plays with better players?

Sell him.

The second goal was fantastic.

his first 2 goals for us were chalk and cheese, the first is one of the worst finishes you'll ever see whereas the second was as clinical as they come.

they both ended up in the net though  fecking love this guy

the one against everton late on was crucial, a really tough game that was slipping away but he came up with something when we needed it. a vital 3 points in the run in that was

love the lad. i really hope he stays with us for a bloody long time.

the one vs chelsea in the PL after 30 seconds was my favourite. was watching it in the pub with some mates and we went ballistic.

I've just come from the newbies and there are actually quite a few posters there saying we should get shot of Chico and replace him with someone more rounded. When that story ran about Madrid offering us a part exchange with either one of Benzema or Higuain there were quite a few among the newbs who held the opinion that it'd be a good deal. I genuinely don't understand why some people, even among our fanbase, think so little of our little pea? Its as if they are so convinced that Chicharito is one dimensional that they blatantly ignore the way he's developing as a footballer.

In the Gold Cup Chicharito's been in sparkling form and not just in front of goal. The flick round the corner pass to Barrera Chico pulled off in Mexico's match with El Salvador was a thing of beauty and the pass for his assist for Mexico's third against Cuba also very well delivered. More encouragingly we've been seeing more of this side to him for a few months now: at Blackburn in the run in he played some lovely passes to Nani and Rooney and his assist for the 2nd away to Shalke was perfectly weighted.

Some people seem to underestimate what Chico has achieved coming from the Mexican league to the Premier League and the Champions League and continuing to produce. When he left Mexico there were posters saying you leave a hero come back a legend!? Every time he pulled on the red shirt last season he must've been under immense pressure not to mess up. Is it any wonder that occasionally his touch would fail him or a pass would go astray with the hopes of a nation on your shoulders like that?

Whats really impressive is that in spite of effectively becoming a national symbol Chicho was still able to keep his cool where it most mattered: in front of goal. Plus, as the season has progressed and his confidence has increased we're now seeing a more polished Chicharito who can create opportunities as well as convert them and if he keeps his tail up there's no telling how far his game can go. I truly believe that we're witnessing the birth of a 14gend.

There was a rumour in one of the papers we're tracking the latest young striker from Chivas. I forget his name but I find it brilliant how as a club, they're so proud of Hernandez. If a young player left us and set the world alight I'd be extremely bitter about it. It seems the whole United/Chivas relationship was very strong and I wonder if there's potential long term links to be had.

Errick "Cubo" Torres. Didn't we have some agreement with Chivas from the Chicharito deal about young players?

Great post.

Watching that, I think people are still managing to underestimate the boy's talent. Anyone who calls him "one-dimensional"...yeah, maybe, if that dimension is "scoring goals".

#2: The goal against Valencia was taking that pass from Macheda, getting clear and firing a left-footed strike between two defenders into the corner of the goal.

#3: Movement off the ball (and some shit defence from West Brom)

#4: That crazy back-header against Stoke

#6: Taking a good through ball and getting around the one Wolves defender like he's not there before striking it in.

#7: The low-diving header against Wigan. Really was brilliant instinct on his part. The ball was curling back, making a one-time shot next to impossible, and with defenders in the area, he almost certainly hadn't time to take a touch.

#9: The back-heel against Stoke that was so quick you needed to slow it down on replay to even see that it was exactly what he intended to do.

#10: Absolutely perfect first touch. Kills the ball's vertical bounce dead and sets it up on a silver platter for himself.

#11: Almost the opposite of #10, in that his touch fails him, but he still has the quickness and presence of mind to throw his foot at the ball and poke it under the keeper while falling.

#12: Full-speed run to get exactly where he needs to be to poke the ball in before the keeper gets to it. Started that run before Nani even started to cross it.

#13: Perfectly timed link between Rooney and Hernandez.

“It’s very important that he’s playing for Manchester United,” said Enrique Borja, a Mexican soccer official who played in two World Cups for El Tri. “But most important, he’s playing well with the national team and he’s a good representative for Mexican soccer in many parts of the world. The people love him.”

His all-round game will develop with time. He could become much more than just a deadly finisher.

Played 83 minutes against Costa Rica, didn't score. Mexico won 4-1.

Mexico win group B and are in quarterfinals.

Sack de la Torre, drop Hernandez
