I think they were more saying Rashford should be onthe right to exploit the space Zinchenko leaves when he drifts. Which is a fair point to make.

Martinez in midfield would be a surprise though, in such a huge game for us
Both full backs drift, Rashford will always drift centrally or toward right in his arrowed runs, but wont be playing as a right winger.

Have we ever played a non counter attacking football against Arsenal since 2009? Do it again. They play at home which means lite Pep will put his idealism above anything else. This is the type of game I'm 70% certain Ole will get us a win, at least a draw.

Saw that United haven't won in the league there since 2017

    Must be due soon

City will be 2 points behind them come sunday evening and I would really want to see United get the first goal and make them panic

They will be a completely different proposition at The Emirates and this time we are missing the key midfielder not them which is significant
Casemiro didn't start last game either, but I agree playing at the Emirates and with Arsenal's current form we're going to struggle.

I was moderately positive for this game until Casemiro got suspended.
Again it's probably confirmation bias but I can old ever remember draws with Arsenal recently.

Who knows, perhaps we'll have a masterclass from McT and we win 4-0

Think we will lose this one comfortably as I don't trust McTominay at the moment, even though he was alright at the start of the season. I think Scott will go into his shell, and Fred will be isolated, which will lead to us being constantly attacked. I think our defense will do well, but Arsenal will get a jammy goal or rebound or something. Anthony Taylor being the ref makes this even worse.

I am so happy with the progress under ETH though and hopefully, our players can go into the game feeling like they have nothing to lose and play with freedom (especially the wingers).

Dont worry about Arsenal they will take care of themselves. Once they are playing more than a 2 games a week and get a few injuries they will capitulate.

I would try him in midfield before resorting to McT in that position. If we start with McT we need to play with Fred in next to him which completely negates Fred’s ability to press high and probably to keep tabs on Odegaard.
In short, McT in CDM changes our whole shape.
You'd rather play a defender in midfield then an actual midfielder?

Martinez has played midfield a handful of times and by all accounts has been bang average to poor every time.

As ETH stated, McT helped us win against Arsenal earlier in the season, he can certainly do it again.

Am I missing something? Why are people having both McFred in their teams? Are both Martial and Weghorst out for this game?

Fred is very good to come in for big games and make us harder to beat. Casemiro is out so Mctominay starts naturally. Antony is out of form and Garnacho is an impact sub (and LW) so even with both Martial/Weghorst fit (not sure on Martial but weghorst will likely start), that means we go similar to what we did vs City with Bruno pushed a bit wide.

    Bruno Fred Rashford
    Weghorst
I'd do this. Weghorst will be useful as we will likely bypass the press here, especially without Casemiro in. So we'll go long more often, and need Bruno to drift inwards. More realistically it'll be Bruno tucking inside and Rashford pushing up to make it a front 2 more than anything. Need Rashford on form here, he tends to do well vs Ben White so hopefully more of the same.

It'll be a McFred park the bus, slap them on the counter performance.

    Same as City.

    --------------- Martial -------------
    -- Rashy -- Eriksen -- Bruno
    ------------ Fred -- McT ----------

Should be a good game if we don't make any silly defensive mistakes to give up the 1-0.

I predict that bruno will have a shit game and a 40% pass completion and then suddenly he will put a 30 meter thru ball to rashford and score, then he will get a red card and still win motm, and we will shit our way to win 1-0

Martial is most likely out. Weghorst is someone people would rather not play this type of game.

I think only one of McFred will start and that will be Fred. If Martial is still out(just let him leave in the summer!), Weghorst is our only natural striker and I would rather play him as striker and Rashford out wide on the left in his favored position than play Rashford as a striker.

Think it will be more or less our first team with just Fred replacing Casemiro.

    De Gea
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Eriksen Fred
    Antony Bruno Rashford
    Weghorst.

With Garnacho coming off the bench as always. Really hope we bring on Pellistri from the bench instead of Elanga if it comes to that.

Speaking to ESPN in January 2021, Ten Hag said: "Daley Blind does not have the running capacity to play in midfield. And neither does Martinez."

I don't think Martinez will play in midfield like most hope, I think the best we can hope for is Mctominay and Eriksen with man marking on Odegaard from Mctominay with Fred in the 10 and Bruno right

I’d take any win against that lot so if that scenario played out, I will gladly shake your hand.

Fred has never really come in to be the DM for Ten Hag. If it hasn't been Casemiro, it's been McTominay for Ten Hag pretty much. Fred is the Eriksen backup or even being the #10 while pushing Bruno out wide for Freds pressing, but as the guy to sit and cover space, that's just not Fred and never has been. Especially not against Arsenal. Given how well McTominay played last time out vs Arsenal, I feel like he's guaranteed to start (which is the right choice).

Weather the early storm and we have a fighting chance as long as we score first.
Ye can see them being all over us in like the first 15 mins. But that’s fine we’ll just hit them on the counter. Think they’ll be times we settle down and have possession too.

I know, but Fred has been in kind of a good form lately. Much better than McT anyways. McT has never been good enough as a DM. He has always played better when it was a sort of box to box role. Let's see how it plays out. I'd much rather play Fred over McT.

Fred just isn't a sitting no 6. It doesn't matter how good he's been lately, he just isn't.

Fred needs to play and Ten Hag needs him to do a similar job on Odegaard that he did with KdB

Yeah as the guy above says, form is irrelevant when you are looking for direct role replacement. The only players in our squad who Ten Hag sees as capable of playing the #6 role is Casemiro and McTominay. Nobody else has played as DM. He uses Fred for pressing and moving around the pitch providing energy, which needs a #6 in the team to cover that space.

Fred being in form gives him the likelihood to start ahead of Antony and moving Bruno wide, or starting ahead of Eriksen, but he's not in the conversation for Casemiro backup. That would be McTominay, or possibly Martinez even though there's nothing to suggest Ten Hag wants to try him there.

McT isn't either. We all are stuck here on who to pick out of a bad bunch.

FFS Casemiro, why did you need to get that yellow card. We ended up conceding anyways. That result and suspension still stings.:(

Have a bad feeling about this game.

No Casemiro and the team already looked tired physically and mentally on Wednesday. Even without these factors, going to the Emirates has been hard for the past five years.

I expect a loss but hope it doesn't turn into a spanking. If we can keep the clean sheet for the first 30 minutes, it'll become easier but Arsenal at home are relentless at the moment, even more than us.

I hope he plays Martinez in midfield because McTominay will be left for dead against their free-flowing football
