Wow that line-up, no messing about. Jose is all-in on the Europa isn't he.

    5/11

Why are we using so many players who will start in the cup final here? Very strange.

Fellaini starting is shit. His last performance was so bad, he should be made to earn his place back in the side.

Not sure about risking Pogba & Zlatan - would've preferred them on the bench & only playing if necessary. Was hoping TFM would've got a chance to play.
I think this is true.He should be made to earn his game times, not just be selected by default especially after a dreadful performance from him just a week away.

Jose doesn't feck about in the knock-out stages of cup competitions. Interesting the way he seems to be prioritising this higher than the FA Cup. I guess that's the reality re how far the latter has fallen in estimation. Just don't tell the beeb. It will break their little hearts...

On a side note, the comments re the line-up are hilariously predictable.

"OMG, why is he picking x? He's fecking useless!"

"WTF?! Why has he picked such a strong team? Doesn't he know we've a cup final at the weekend?"

    Does. Not. Compute...
I don't mind him putting this ahead of the FA Cup at all to be fair... but at the same time, I really don't see him playing a second-string against Chelsea either. Still, considering our draw, you can easily argue it should be our 3rd priority trophy, considering we'd probably have to beat 3 of Chelsea/City/Spurs and Arsenal to win it.

Short of an XI of Matteo Darmian's, I really wouldn't care who he played in this game... it's compltely over as a tie.

If we go a goal up....would he take Ibra off considering there's a cup final coming up. Ibra never seems to get subbed and would be strange if he did 90 mins

What the feck this is today? Starting in 45 mins? I'm still at work! I thought EL games were only on Thursdays.

Hmmmm, Carrick/Pogba/Schweini as the 3 man midfield tonight would be interesting to see.

Jose has talked a lot about needing to play a certain way at United and understanding this, if he goes into our first cup final under him against an average side like Southampton, with a negative selection I don't think it will be well recieved, we've hit form again with Pogba a bit deeper and Mkhitaryan as the #10, I hope he sticks with that on Sunday.
That so called negative selection was the winning run team in 4-3-3, mind you.

Why is Europa League same day as Champions League?
Because Lyon and Etienne are just 31 miles apart they cannot play home games on the same day.

Lyon play Dutch side AZ on Thursday night and because they are the higher ranked club by Uefa, above Etienne, they kept their spot and United’s was shifted.

The reason the game is at 5pm is Uefa don’t allow Europa League matches to clash with the Champions League which will also be played that night with 7.45pm starts.

Third game in a row DDG is being rested. Jose quietly putting a statement there that Man Utd are not as reliant on him anymore.
Or maybe just giving him some downtime and mental/physical rest as Jose knows he needs it, by seeing his missus etc, and he will be called on a lot for the rest of the season.

Also Romero is not bad, and hasn't been used much.

Or he's definitely off to Real and Jose is punishing him! ;)

    We all love United
The final is on Sunday, isn't it? That's four days of recovery time, more than enough i reckon. Score an early goal and we can take Pogs and Zlatan off after 60

Part of me misses LVG's predictable line-ups. Good to see Young getting another start, think he deserved it after Sunday.

Strong team, my only worry is Carrick playing and what is fitness will be like for the weekend.

Mou obviously knows his players and who can play their best in the final. Ibra and Pogba are machines! They are in great form and obviously react well to playing every 4 days.

It was but then it stalled and we got back in form again with the 4-2-3-1. I never thought I'd favour the latter but Mkhitaryan as the #10 has really improved our attacking creativity IMO.

My mighty God, who is a fecking possibility that The Tree is getting a starting spot once again? How come Fellaini is still a United player?

I would rather have Zaha, Bellion or even Cleverley back in the team instead of Fellaini. Dreadful player and horrible technique.
Basically this. We have Bastian on the bench, why not start someone who can actually pass the ball and read the play if they both are equally incapable of running? Eh :( That half-time substitution didn't mean anything after all

Carrick will most likely not play on Sunday. Will probably be Herrera-Pogba in the final, since they've done a good job recently.

The final is in 4 days but the next game is also 4 March, so they have days to rest.

I'd say Carrick playing today is an indicator he won't be starting at the weekend.

Likewise, would have expected him to a rest a few ahead of the final on Sunday. Shows he's very keen on winning the EL.
plenty of time between now and the final. I'm guessing ibra, Mata and carrick will be subbed at some point.

Yea that's what I was afraid of. Would be good to have an experience head on the pitch to calm things down on Sunday

True, get a goal or two so the tie is put to bed then take them off.

People love overreacting about players fatigue in games. Some people are acting as if some players will need wheelchairs to move for the game on Sunday due to playing today.

They're perfectly able to play today AND Sunday, so these talks of resting x or y player are non senses.

Well, St Etienne are better than Blackburn tbh.

Of course, I totally agree. But you can see, like today, that Mourinho is totally willing to sacrifice the 4-2-3-1 for pragmatic reasons.

I guess until Smalling stinks up the place, there's no way Mourinho is taking him out of the team, not even to rest.

Our European away record has also been terrible in the past few years so Jose could be looking to improve that.

Its not about DDG. Its more about Romero getting some games in the cups and its been 3 cups in a row.
