It's a must win if we want to have any chance of finishing above them. They aren't going to drop at least 9 points more than us from 14 games.
They definetly could, remember they are likely to go deep in the Conf league.

They'll drop points but so will we. It would need us to produce title winning form at the same time. Not going to happen.

Whatever happens, we need Shaw at LB so that Rashford can be dangerous and effective, we should get someone else in that LCB position.
Agreed. Shaw has to stay at LB. Varane and Maguire CB's

Varane and Maguire at the back doesn’t fill me with confidence.

I think we’ll miss Martinez and his driving force from the back. 2-0 to Villa.

Fully expect Emery to mix it up and not play the high line this time. Reckon 0-0 or they sneak it 1-0. Varane/Maguire is vulnerable to pace and they have a lot of that in forward positions.

Say the same thing I say with most of our games - litearlly anything could happen here.

I imagine it'll be a high scoring affar... one team will win 4-2.

They almost always do a high line. They may start off cautious but I'd invite them on and set up a trap.

They always play a high line, they would have to completely change their style that has been a success not to. I imagine they will continue to do so but just be more conscious of our counter attacking ability

Yep, hence why I think he will change it up. He's not always done that high a line in his career and it's probably the thing that most suits United. It was a bit mental he didn't change it last game when the game would have been dead to be honest so maybe he won't but I think he's quite an adaptable manager.

I think he does it because he doesn't have the engines to connect defence with attack. If he drops deeper in defence I see a big hole in their midfield and theyl get outrun (hopefully).

I feel like at Villarreal he had a defensive pivot and they were a counter attacking team that didn't push up so high. Maybe he doesn't have the players for it but I would be more worried if they invited us on to attack them and just used their natural pace to counter us, Watkins, Luiz, Diaby, Bailey will cause a lot of issues through our lumbering centre of Case protecting Varane/Maguire.

More than winnable game. They have 3 wins in last 8 and 2 of those wins were 89th minute winners v Burnley and Boro in games they were struggling in.

    Sheff Utd speaks for themselves.

it won’t be easy but I don’t think Villa are favourites

Aston Villa at home in the league this season have won 9 of their 11 games joint most along with Liverpool, Arsenal

They have scored 30 goals in those 11 games again the joint most with Liverpool and Arsenal

And they have conceded just 11 goals only Man City 10 and Liverpool 9 have conceded less.

Villa Park use to be a real happy hunting ground for United over the years but last two matches there was poor results 2-2 draw against a poorly managed Slippy G team and 3-1 defeat in a new manager bounce.

Emerys home record against Man United

    3-1 win with Villa
    2-0 defeat with Villarreal
    2-0 win with Arsenal
    3-1 defeat with Arsenal
    1-0 defeat with Valencia

I'd take a point of offered now - a win would be absolutely huge - especially as we'll be without Licha. Also a good performance might show the other Martinez (Emmy) that he should be replacing our latest clown keeper

Win and we are back in race for 5th. Lose and next-season UCL is probably gone for good.

Should be a relatively easy game for us. Villa high line will hurt them big time, and we can’t be as unlucky with offsides as our last match against them.

I'd probably play Shaw as LCB, AWB at right back (if he is fit) and Dalot.at LB.

Maguire had a couple of dodgy moments today and I think Shaw would give us more stability at the back
I like Shaw as a left centre back but he's a different beast at left back, and a massive reason as to why we've looked a lot more creative of late.

Lindelof Or Maguire to play there.

I think it’ll be Varane and Maguire the next game. Later, if Lindelof can find his form from last season he’ll take the LCB position as ETH seems to prefer him there. The experiment with Shaw didn’t really turn out very well and I don’t think he’ll go there again.

It would only be sensible to play a Varane Maguire duo if the set up was a Mourinho type cowardly bus parking operation, it's asking for trouble playing any type of expansive game that leaves space in behind with them two.

If we’re serious about top 4, we have to beat these.

Only just realized Villa have a midweek game, while we have the entire week to prepare. A small point in our favor.

If we were able to go to Anfield and get a 0-0 then there is no reason not to do the same or even better.
At some point you need to be winning games like this if I’m honest though. Villa away isn’t Anfield. Obvious point I know but just more commenting on how low our standards are that many think a draw would be decent for us

The biggest issue in this game is missing Martinez/having to start Maguire who looked back to his mistake prone self against West Ham. Scoreline flattered him
Yeah, he was dithering again which could have ended up hurting us. Perhaps Lindelof is fit enough?

A must win for us (or must not lose).

If we win this and then beat Luton and Fulham we'll have great momentum for City and the rest of the season. Could maybe nick a champions league spot.

Lose and I don't think we make up the gap.

United (out of nowhere) are a genuine threat across the frontline.

So I can’t see one of those 3 not scoring.

Pressure will be on the defence to keep the goals conceded as low as possible.

But they will have had an entire week to practice without Licha.

Konsa is out for Villa but Pau might be back for them. So currently they have Lenglet and Carlos as their cb. Let’s see how their team is midweek and should be a strong one with Chelsea in mind

    We’ve turned a corner—nervy 1 - 2 win for us. We’re up 2; they score from a set piece.

The team picks itself, Varane in for Licha.

I think we can win this, they’re not going to play a low block at home and we can pick them off on the counter attack. Another positive from the West Ham is that Onana is starting to look like a competent keeper.

    2-0 United
