Clear as day Rooney shouldn't be in this team. Hit two good chances straight at the keeper that you'd expect him to bag and he's getting nowhere near their players when pressing.

It's like all these players got here yesterday and 11 were randomly chosen and sent to the field.

    No fluency at all.

Fairly poor performance overall but the goal looked like it perked us up a bit. Confident of a win now. Well, mildly so.

I usually hate the typical Rooney hate parade, but a sequence just before halftime irked me:

Martial does very well to win the ball deep in our own half, plays a brilliant ball forward to Ibrahimovic, who holds the ball up well and moves it to Rooney. Martial, meanwhile, has really pushed down the left flank, but instead of Rooney finding him pacing down there, he completely kills off any kind of speed we had going forward.

This may be still be the aftermath of the van Gaal era, but stuff like this marginalizes players such as Martial, who feed off of seeing actions well before they happen and who excel in those 1-2-situations.

Positives: Bailly, Valencia and to a lesser extent Herrera and Fellaini. Rooney, Shaw and Martial have been disappointing. Martial not the player he was last season. Not yet at least.

It's first game of the season, none of the teams have looked great so far. Just get the right results and the performances will come.

If I were manager Fellaini would be well ahead of Rooney in the pecking order. The longer our captain plays the worse off we will be. Adds absolutely nothing to our game.

Pace is king in this league, always has been. Why don't our managers seem to know this post Fergie?

Awful half from both teams, Bailly and Shaw had a couple of nervy early poor touches but overall the back 4 has settled well and Blind has been our best player, while Valencia has tried his best given he has no support on the right flank in attack as Mata is always central when we have the ball.

The midfield pairing is dreadful, not a single slice of passing quality from either of them, Rooney basically can't turn, Ibra's had no service and Martial doesn't look sharp yet.

Luckily Bournemouth gifted us a goal with a comedy of errors.

Tight affair but we probably deserved the goal. Great chasing down by Mata and it goes to show we need more players to run in behind.

Which brings me to Rooney. Absolutely invisible and contributing nothing so far. How long till Miki and Pogba take his place?

This team so far looks very physical and imposing. A far cry from the days when we would worry about our midfield (and Daley Blind) getting overrun. The likes of Bailly, Ibra and even Fellaini have really battered the bournemouth players in those 50/50 duels. Pleasing to see and like it or not, its needed if youre going to win away from home. Hopefully we can keep it tight and keep a clean sheet. Would be fantastic to start off with 3 points and an away win. All we need now is a bit of pace on the counter and we could possibly nick a 2nd goal.

We can't stop here. This is bat country.
Defence has been very good, Bailly looks right at home.

Rest a bit meh. Martial quiet but when he's had it on the flank nearly always done something with it even if just a wide shot.

We look best when Blind plays it between the lines from the back.

No pace on a counter is a big concern. A few times Rooney has had it wide and if it's Rashford we're on a break.

Mata coming inside has helped Valencia have space to attack at. Glad he's been going for it, rather than playing passively.

Bailly, Blind, Fellaini and Herrera have done well in parts too.

Get Rooney out and put Mikhi on, ffs. What's so hard to get about that? He has been a problem for us for 3 seasons already, not a week.

How does Rooney manage to survive every manager I have no idea. He has made a deal with the devil.
He will score a tap in eventually and the media will claim he is still a great player and worthy of his spot in the team. My Nan would score a tap in eventually if given the amount of game time Rooney gets.

Tbh he gets absolutely no service from Shaw at all. He needs to do much much more going forward. Just sticks behind like he is scared.

Not the worst half really considering the preseason we had. Bailly looks like he could be a monster for us, him and valencia been best players for us. Shaws looked ok but a bit rusty, fellaini has been ok. Rooney has been dog poo slowing it down and lost ball a few times. Saw a post earlier which made me laugh regarding his backpass being moredangerous than his shot earlier. Need herrera to venture forward a bit more.

Mata having the first goal of José's reign is funny. I'm glad for him.

Anyway, Rashford needs to come on for Wayne imo. Having a front line consisting of Rooney, Zlatan and Mata is overkill. There's been so many times we could have pressed Bournemouths back line to try and cause a mistake out of them (like for the goal) but we've just been too slow. Marcus' running in behind could be a real asset for us here considering the amount of times the balls ended up behind their defence.

    What does this even mean?
The left side has been lacking from our attacks
No overlaps from Shaw, not much of a connection or any interplay between them.
And I can only remember one time Martial ran at their defence.

Bailly looks like a monster at CB. Love him already. Nothing new with Rooney, have him and Ibra even completed a single pass to one another? Partnership will never work please just stop it already Mourinho.

It's a pretty solid away performance against a well organised team. I don't expect us to look like 1970 Brazil and I'm quite content for the new manager and playing style to bed in whilst still winning....which I think we will do.

Has Fellaini been playing as the more defensive CM? He did a better defensive job than Carrick in the Community Shield. So I think Jose is planning to try him out in that role. He might pair up with Pogba instead of Carrick on Friday.

Not good but that's to be expected. As with City, it'll be October before things really click for us. Until then it's results I'm looking for.

For all the talk about being dominant in your order for Zlatan to shine, our team is far from it.

God I hope we play better in the second half. This is boring.

Very lethargic performance and lucky to be 1-0 up. Pitch looks slow, players not moving the ball quicker in between the lines and a lack of real tempo. Martial looks very undercooked. Felliani deserves a bit of credit for some crucial clearances. Bailly looking immense. Really impressed with his distribution from the back. Rooney and Ibra will not work together and the sooner Jose realises this the better.

I still say that our attacking gameplan should be based upon the pace of rashford leading the line

Really enjoyed Bailley and Blind's first half performance. Our midfield is meh, will be nice when Pogba is in there. Rooney is killing me though, but I think Mourinho will take him out if his sh!te continues. He really does kill 90% of our attacks, and his touch is awful.

We have Zlatan and we make hardly any crosses?

I'm quite pleased - Bournemouth are really impressive, they'll be fine again this year provided King and Ibe stay fit, they work so hard as a unit.

I gave Fellaini pelters after last week but he's been pretty good defensively and moved it quickly forward for a change, still has an extremely annoying habit of turning his back on play and not doing enough to offer himself in the middle, but he's been very responsible defensively.

Would like to see Rashford/Mhiki to have a look at a few different attacking options. When we keep the ball we look really assured but with more threat and directness than last year already.

    Valencia is a worldy.
