That team you put out would struggle against Bournemouth. The PL is the bigger priority. It's a must win game. I dont see how we beat Juventus away. We barely attacked at home so how are we going to win away? We're playing for a draw in Italy.
Not necessarily, it's a more balanced side than the one Jose will probably put out, and it still 'only' Bournemouth.

We played like the away side at home to Juve so that was good practice for going to Turin, and without creating too many chances we did improve as the game went on, same again, nick one on the break, defend for our lives and pray and there's no reason we can't win.

We should be going to Juve trying to win, and we've got the players to do it, because it's the only way we can control our own destiny in the group without relying on other results going in our favour, and/or needing to win in Spain in matchday six.

Maybe you've got more confidence than me that if Juve beat us thus guaranteeing qualification that they won't stitch us up and down tools against Valencia.
Juve are one of the CL favourites. We haven't won the CL for a long long time and haven't won the league in 6 years.
I don't think you quite realise where MUFC ranks among the top teams in Europe. (Answer: not very high).
Jose understands this and is under no illusion on how we compare to Juve.
He'll set us up to concede as few goals as possible and will focus on the games against Valencia and Young Boys.

Be a gamble, but expecting wholesale changes with a must win game against Juve a few days later in mind, something like:

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Darmian
    Herrera McTominay Fred
    Lingard Lukaku Alexis
We can lose against Juve again, draw with Valencia and still go through if we beat Young Boys.

A win and a clean sheet would be nice. Bournemouth look like a very solid team though this season. With Fraser, Wilson and King in outstanding form this will be a very difficult fixture.

They might be one of the favourites, but were still Manchester United, and despite being Managed by a coward are still respected and feared on the Continent.

And on history, the last time Juve won the Champions League half our squad weren't even born, and we got knocked out of the UEFA Cup by mighty Rotor Volgograd, whose Manager was under no illusion(i'm guessing)on how his team compared to United, a United that went on to win the 'double' double that season.

    What I want to see:

    Martial Sanchez
    Fred Pogba Herrera Lingard
    Shaw Lindelof Smalling Young(c)
    De Gea
I would have Fred right and Lingard left. Good energy and running from those positions, and eases the workload on our two talented forward players. No indication we’ll ever see this though.

Bornemouth are a well drilled outfit, could be a slippery fixture depending on who turns up for us.

    I'd like to see this:

    DDG

    Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw

    Fred, Perrerira, Pogba

    Sanchez, Rashford, Martial

    Subs
Romero, Bailley, Matic, Herrera, Mata, Chong, Greenwood

Dalot would be on the bench if fit. It was touch and go with Mata starting as this could be a 'running' game. He could make a very useful impact in the 2nd half though

I'm sick of seeing the same old faces in the matchday squad that are underperforming or should have been moved on seasons ago. Time to give new blood a chance, with the competition driving up the low standards that Jose is accepting

Lukkaku deserves to be out of the side after several consistently poor performances, Matic needs to be rotated or he will suffer even worse burnout, while Darmian is just poor.

Yeah would love to see Chong get a run if the game is decided one way or the other. Doubt we'll see Greenwood though - he might have a chance if LVG was manager, but not Mourinho.

And that is the sad thing.

While Jose does not deserve the media tag of 'not using youth' (Pep is far worse), but he is not taki g the opportunity to use youth players when seniors are significantly underperforming.

Aside from our heritage of playing youth, I think it's a necessity given imbalances in our squad. You look at our bench on most matchday, it seems to be overloaded with centre mids and lacks attacking players

    Yeah agree completely.

Chong shouldn't just get a go because he's young and promising - but because we actually need an RW and he would rebalance the bench.

Steady on. Greenwood only made his debut for the u23s less than a week ago.

I don't recall LvG ever starting youth in the league whilst a more senior player was available for that position. Could be wrong

I think Greenwood is 17 yrs of age. And given our struggle to score goals I think it would be reckless to put a 17 yr old kid, to start in a game, which really is a must-win for us and also for Jose (to keep his job).

I so wish to see us continue with a similar setup vs Bournemouth. Maybe Sanchez for Rashford, but certainly a runner up top.

    View from the other side:

Howe has tweaked the tactics, both for the game last week and for the much-changed side in the cup against Norwich. 3/5 at the back depending how you view it. Three central defenders anyway.

It might look like a reaction to the King injury but Mousset would have been an able deputy and he's been happy to start him before, and Lys has done well, so I don't think it's that. I expect it was a deliberate ploy to get the team well adjusted in a match setting to this formation as he intends to use it during our six games against the 'Big 6' in the next ten. Therefore, whether King is fit or not I expect us to start with the five at the back formation.

It doesn't change the ethos of still trying to score as the way he sets it up there is still oodles of attacking intent but it does give an extra body at the back. Should we be chasing the game at some point then expect him to switch to four at the back and our more usual tactic.

If King is still injured then the team picks itself... same as last Saturday with the only possible changes on the bench. Ibe's big chance to make his mark with a start in the cup was a disaster whereas Pugh was brilliant so I'd expect an exchange as a sub between those two at least. If King is fit I suspect he'll still keep the same team and have King available on the bench in case it isn't working or we need to mix things up.

At a guess I suspect the instruction will be try to start like a hurricane for 15 minutes and if we can't get a breakthrough in that time then settle back a little and adjust the tactics from there trying to keep a solid base. By it's nature that would make us most vulnerable in that opening period so if you come out all guns blazing there could be some fireworks at the start of the match.

Player to watch out for: Ryan Fraser. Actually, after starting the season like a juggernaut he's been a little off-colour the last few weeks. However, he's now performing at a level where even on not his best day last Saturday he still picked up two assists. He also came on as a sub in the week and instantly looked a cut above everyone else on the pitch.

Prediction: A home win would certainly make our season outlook very interesting. The good run so far has always been tempered by the fact we've only one match against 'the Six'. A defeat and I'll readjust back to hoping for a mid-table finish, a draw and I'll carry on with my current wait-and-see viewpoint but a win... gosh. I think I'll go with a 1-1 draw. Even though we've been much more solid at the back we can still be opened up too easily but then we also are still creating lots of chances in every match.

    Here's hoping it's a good game!

Always great to have the input of other fans. Cheers mate. You've certainly had a fantastic season so far. Wouldn't go as far as saying Bournemouth are favourites, but it will be a very tight affair. Great game for the neutrals probably.:nervous:

So bizarre to see that from a Chelsea fan on a Man Utd forum a few days before we play them in the league.

If I wake up tomorrow to find out it's 2012 and we're actually back in League One with Paul Groves in charge I will have a serious tantrum.

Rashford was regularly started over players like Depay towards the end, right?

So you mean started, or debuted?

I've lived in Bournemouth on and off for about 25 years. Been to many, many games (including the great escape back in 1995 where I was one of the pitch invaders!).

This could be a game where Herrera's energy and tenacity is required. Matic needs a rest. I would play the same side other than that change.

Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool could all drop points so a win here puts us above Bournemouth, and potentially within 3 points of Spurs and/or Arsenal.

This will be a real test though.

This is a better record than we have , would be daft to underestimate them.
I don't think anyone does, Bournemouth are a quality side. Bar this weekend and the return fixture, I wish them well and hope they can do what Burnley did last season.

The front three of Bournmouth are very good. That's why they are in the top six.

Another must win this. The early season defeats put a lot of pressure on these games , I’d take any type of win and avoid defeat next week we wouldn’t be in bad shape all things considered then.

I’ll go for a very hard fought 1-0 win and would be happy to take it, Bournemouth are in good form and I think will take points from top 6 teams this year
