Regardless of whether these are true or not, they are more of why teams with low block defend better against us. What I can't understand is how these goalies could pulled out saves they would never normally do against us. Just us.
I hate this narrative for the season. By design, any team with a low block is meant to make it very hard for the opponent to find creative solutions in the final third. Some teams are able to beat it regularly (like City) but even they don't end up scoring 3-4 every game. There are games where it is very hard for them to break teams down.

Our issues with the low block became very very obvious because that's where you need quick thinking creative midfielders to move the ball around. With JLingz and Andreas, we did not manage to do that. Against more expansive teams, the pace and running of our forwards did the job (Martial + Rashford mainly).

The jump in quality with Pogba and Bruno cannot be understated when it comes to this. Exactly why I feel we need to make at least 2-3 more quality creative signings, so we are not overreliant on these 2.

2-1 to us. We go 2 up and take Bruno and Matic off. Rashford needs to get back on the scoresheet, he's understandably been rusty in front of goal the last few games but we need him back at it tonight. I reckon he'll get back on track here. Im not nervous about this game if we dont rotate too much. Last match was poor but if we had a better squad we wouldn't be in 5th....

No they actually don't we most of the time just tend to exaggerate their performances they usually make couple of great saves along with just routine saves but everything gets clubbed together and suddenly the narrative that goalkeepers morphs into superhuman against us gets traction .
Occasionally we do get goal keepers who play like men possessed but that's few and far between.
Good point. Although Brad Friedel always channelled his inner Schmeichel against us.

Can someone tell me what's our record like when we go down to Brighton? I can only remember ever losing to them so they are pretty much a bogey team when we go there

No excuses not to win tonight though
Only PL matchup played more than 4 times that has a 100 % home win record.

Well they played their last game 5-6 days ago. While us 120' just 3 days ago, and are the away team. Probably not I think.
The 'away' disadvantage has been completely negated by the closed doors policy.

The important factor is that we played 120mins 3 days back

If you told me years ago United fans would be nervous about facing Brighton I'd have laughed. Lads...it's Brighton. Most people here can't even mention their 2nd best player. 3-0 easy and back in the top 5
Your post has ruffled some feathers on a Brighton forum :D
It is funny that among the various quotes listed by the OP, quite a few mentioned a couple of our players (or more) and highlighted the threat. Then this idiot comes along and shows his ignorance by saying most people can't even mention our second best player

that’s not true. Travel, unfamiliar dressing room, type of pitch and dimensions of pitch make a difference.

yes home advantage has been largely reduced, but certainly not completely.

will Shaw make the starting 11 today? that's the one I want answered asap.
Physically he looks so fit/much thinner than usual.
Brandon and his right-foot should be AWB's understudy not Luke's

Think this'll be a seriously tough game and it's really critical that we win. Looking forward to it and I quite like the way Brighton play. Hopefully Bruno looks less knackered than he did on Saturday night.

Who should be Luke's understudy then?

I think it's fair to say lose and any chance of top 4 is gone. Might still get 5th, but Chelsea could win game in hand to have an 8 point lead with 6 left. Can't see that happening.

We've done it to ourselves with the scrappy draws and key mistakes. Still have to imagine we're tight favourites for the win, and if we can get Martial, Pogba and Bruno clicking, we'll have chances.

If we hope to catch Leicester on goal difference, we need to win many games by several goals. So it shall be 0-3 today

Oh yes, agreed. Lots and lots of tiny factors make - cumulatively a very big difference. The light in the stadium, how the pitch plays, a milllion little things that you miss from the physical familiarity of your home turf.

maybe not dressing room - but you can’t seriously think the pitch Doesn’t makes a difference? We are talking about the 1% differences here than can be the difference.
FFS, this is Man Utd we're talking about not a non league outfit visiting a PL ground in the FA Cup.

No excuses tonight. We go there to win. If Brighton win on merit, fair enough but 'small pitch, terrible ball boys, sea air, wrong colour leaves etc,' aren't going to cut it for me

Very well said, especially the part about every team finding it hard to break down low blocks. There is this idea on these boards that struggling to break down deep compact teams is only exclusive to us and teams like City or Pool never find it hard.

Like you said the task against low blocks became harder for us due to having to rely on the likes of Lingard and Perreira for creativity which was always going to backfire. Replace them with the quality of Bruno and Pogba and we possess some creativity to deal with them or at least to a certain extend. And the solution to further improve against these such teams is to add more creative players in the team.

    Chris Hughton?
 Once, I said only once that he is good looking man, and you ... Ok, maybe twice.
@Random Task does not discriminate, he will take any kind. Where there's a will there's a way.
By sides, since RT is so confident of a win, you'd be doubling up on your bet!
not sure I want to have 4 of those... (husbands)
You know what the score is going to be.
    of course I know. 0-4 !!!!!

Just browsed through this thread. Clearly the confidence if taking a hit the closer it is coming to kick off. We've gone from consensus on winning to a draw. I'm guessing we'll go to loss after line ups are declared - till we eventually score the first goal (when it will all be good again!)

I fully expect us to win today. The team is showing some character and should be happy after getting through a tough game on Saturday. Don't expect them to be knackered (except Bruno) given most of the first XI came on only towards the last 45 mins!
I'm with you, man. Expect the win.

Yes, I didn't think it was a question of an excuse, at all, just about marginal advantage, in the era of closed-door matches. Like, does home/away confer an advantage in that situation? It's nothing in the world to do with excuses.

I think we will be fine tonight. That midfield needs to be purring from the start.

Agree, hence why I feel why priority should be a back up 10, rather than a defensive midfielder. Whilst its good to have balance, we're a team that should be on the front foot and outscoring teams.

Just look at City's midfield of Gundogan, De Bruyne and Silva the other day against Newcastle.

People may say we don't play like City, but when you have technicians like Pogba and Bruno in your side, you will naturally dominate as we did against Sheff Utd.

Going forward, we definitely need more creative players in our side.

The right-winger we get whether it be Sancho or someone else will need to be creative, and a back up 10/8.
