I think the concern is Fred and Casemiro are at risk of being booked and missing the Arsenal game. On the balance of things we need them more for that game than this one.
Yeah we can't afford to risk either, however it makes our midfield very lightweight

This game wouldn't be this week if we had won that Europa League group and avoided playoff

I'd keep the same back 4 and play Martinez as the DM or maybe rest Varane and play Maguire or Lindelof

If Fred is a booking away from a ban then McTominay should start

I'd also start Weghorst because Martial is a better option for the Arsenal game and he can't play 2 a week

If Fred or Casemiro get booked against Palace they will be suspended for the Arsenal game.
Then they should both have a rest, we should be good enough to beat Palace without either of them but probably not Arsenal

Go Route 1 on to the noggin of that Dutch bean pole and close up shop for the remaining 89 minutes.

While personally I wouldn't mind seeing licha tried at dm, I don't think it's likely to happen. EtH tried him there at Ajax and didn't like it

Game would have already been played long before that group was over. But that's a debate that was already had in September

Maybe trying Licha as a DM in this game ? pretty sure he can play this position if I'm not mistaken

We absolutely do not rest Rashford, Varane and Casemiro.

Rest them for 2 weeks after the Arsenal game when we play Cup games but definitely not now. Unbelievable to see the McFred suggestions.
Varane and Casemiro sit this one out from the start, guaranteed. I think Rashford starts.

Varane must be managed. A long term injury ruins our season. Casemiro is on a booking and is needed for Arsenal. Bring them on if we need to, but the point of keeping the likes of McTominay and Maguire, whatever we think of them, is to use them when the schedule is congested. If they play and we lose because of them then it will just reaffirm to Ten Hag that they need to be shifted.

Booking totals reset after 19 games.
Casemiro getting a booking against Palace would still see him suspended the game after.

If McTominay can’t be trusted to play against Palace then he’s done for. Granted, I don’t think we can trust him, but Casemiro isn’t worth the risk otherwise we’re stuffed if he’s banned against Arsenal.

Such a tough game sandwiched between City and Arsenal, with Casemiro and Fred one yellow from a suspension.

I think we need to make a couple of changes with Arsenal in mind and just scrap out a win here.

    --------------------------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------------------------
    AWB--------------------------Varane-----------------------Martinez-------------------------Malacia
    --------------------------------------Mctom---------------Eriksen------------------------------------
    Anthony--------------------------------------Fernandes----------------------------------Garnacho
    ----------------------------------------------------Rashford-----------------------------------------------------

The drop from Casemiro is huge, but he likes a tackle and we really can't afford to lose him for the Arsenal game. I'd have loved to rest Varane and Rashford, but I don't think we can miss both Varane, Casermiro and Rashford in a must win game.

Get Rashford off asap with Wout coming on. Ideally get Varane off for Maguire too.

After Arsenal we have Forrest, Reading, Forrest and Palace so we can have some heavy rotation to recover.

Yes, should be okay with McT, etc. I’m dreading Casemiro getting an injury

Must win game to keep the momentum and validating the 3 points we won brillantly against City.

Also, distancing Spurs and Pool is really important.

I would rotate a bit preparing for Arsenal.

I dont really know what Rashford suffered at half time, but I would play him off the bench and protect him.

Ah it's that players 19th game (which for Casemiro so happens to be Palace)

Imo, this is a more important game than Arsenal. Do not be deceived, we are not in a title race.

Didn't realise Casemiro and Fred are both a booking away from suspension. That makes team selection a bit more difficult with Arsenal in mind - also really annoying in terms of timing, with Palace being a last minute fixture sandwiched in.

Start Casemiro. He just needs to play as if he's already on a booking. Put Eriksen in beside him. Play Bissaka up against Zaha. Get Martinez back in.

    Bissaka
    Shaw
    Varane
    Martinez
    Casemiro
    Antony

Ideally i think we should rest Varane and Rashford, with Fred and Casemiro not starting due to their yellow card situation.

    I'd go with:

    DDG
    AWB Lindelof Martinez Shaw
    McT Eriksen
    Antony Bruno Garnacho
    Martial

Rashford and Weghorst to come on if we aren't ahead.

Very risky approach - refs tend to be naturally patient with players on a booking. Such players tend to get some grace from refs trying not to ruin the game. This is different though, the ref would probably be unaware of the impact of a yellow, and rightly so.
Yellows are so easy to earn in today's game that it's a massive risk playing a DM for a full game and hoping he doesn't pick one up.

I take your point. I just think we've a much better chance of the 3 points here than at Arsenal. If we rest him and draw and then earn a draw at Arsenal we're a point down on just winning against Palace.

I think it's a risk worth taking. Maybe play Scotty or Fred beside him to protect him a bit.

Palace are not an easy 3 points at all

Sound logic to he honest, considering they're all worth 3 points in the end (well, if we were actually going for the trophy, you could say winning Arsenal takes the points from them).

You've managed to shift my thinking. Do our best to secure the 3 against Palace, and think of Arsenal after the fact. To quote ETH "we have to go from game to game ... heh"

All that said, if Casemiro and Fred do pick up bookings against Palace, going to Arsenal without both would definitely feel like a suicide mission

Given the fact we collected 3 points against City, 3 other points would be absolutely massive and would put on in front of Newcastle, but more importantly 8 points clear of Spurs and 10 on Pool. So really important. But we will not go at the Emirates as victim anyway.

Hopefully a win in a very difficult stadium for us recently.

Oh yeah. Even with them I wouldn't fancy us to win. Without them it's almost a write off given the form Arsenal are in.
