It doesn't take a genius to realise we only take shots when we are in very good positions, which is why our shot conversion % is the highest in the league.

Regardless, only one stat matters. Points. And we are 4 points off top with our hard run of fixtures over, and having played more away games than home.

    Life is good.
in terms of entertainment, more than one stat matters, no one is saying the results aren't good enough.

Fact is we are 4 points of top with our hard run of fixtures over, and having played more away games than home.

    Lovely Jubbly.
Are you enjoying our football? Genuine question. I'm finding it really hard to watch at the moment.

At one point we were top. (well for a game). Then we were two points. Now four points. Hmm, some people aren't seeing a trend. They would have been the ones on the titanic that thought an iceberg couldn't sink it. Our lads need to stop being such dumb fecks and if you believe in their ability. Palace are a good team but you will not win anything showing teams that amount of respect we're showing. We are FAR too negative, and to be honest - some of these lads need to work harder in training.

I don't like the world embarrassing but that's what they're being. Palace are good on their day, but once we got control of the game - we were substandard. We had no ideas. No quality. No fight. No conviction. No determination to win the second ball. No clue. It's not a bad point, and not just because of our performance. However, whoever's giving the team talk needs to resign. They couldn't inspire a fart out of a flatulent mans arse.

Nope, not at all. In fact watching Klopp at pool today makes me slightly envious of that style of play.

However, we want to challenge for another 10 years, not a year or two. The stability or foundation that van Gaal brings to the team is what we need most, post-Fergie. He may not be the one do the conquering, but is exactly the one we need right now.

Van Gaal done it for Barca, he did it for Bayern, and we will do it for us in his three years here.

There are Bayern fans on here who doubt that he did do it for Bayern and Barca and that he gets more credit than is due to him.

    Philipp Lahm:

Van Gaal was not a universally popular figure in Bavaria, but Philipp Lahm says it was the Dutchman who kickstarted Bayern's recent success at home and abroad.

"He introduced a clearer focus on tactics and our modern style was born,"

"He's a real hard worker. it's difficult to go right into the smallest details of tactics but Van Gaal is willing to. Not everyone liked it, but I love tactics, so it was interesting to me.

"Van Gaal would admit to making mistakes here - or maybe not - but he was the right man at the right time for Bayern."

    Fecking hell this changes everything.

Must back off any criticisms of LvG now after this revelation.
You can criticise, i'm just saying it's a team in transition, so I don't see the point in criticising them for playing like a team in transition.

Yeah, fair enough, but you do realize the contexts are somewhat different – right? Fergie had been in charge for a couple of decades at that point, having won a stack of trophies, generally playing exciting football. The context here is that LVG is suspected of being a merchant of dire football (not saying that's fair, but it's the context), and so people take – well – dire football as proof their suspicions are well founded.

Fergie was never suspected of being a dire football merchant. Everyone besides sheer clowns knows about rough patches – this clearly isn't about that. LVG has not reached a point with us where one can legitimately claim that what's offered isn't the norm but rather just a rough patch. That's his problem – not some individual matches here and there with less than exciting football being served up.
Louis van Gaal isn't a dire football merchant, if he executes what he wants then the football will be more attacking, you see that with Martial and how whenever we get the ball into him you know somethings about to happen. Those characteristics the manager likes, it's why he was interested in Neymar, it's why Robben was given freedom to ferociously attack under him in the past and it's why he took a risk on such a young player in martial for so much despite heavy criticism at the time and it's why he will look for such a player again in the summer.

The problem is that he is managing a team in transition, in an extremely competitive league, so it's not surprising he isn't playing like championship material yet.

In the past, when he has been successful, he has had strong defences and offences, in my opinion he has done a good job with the defence, he's worked well with the midfield but as he has himself admitted the play in the final third is lacking and we need to improve, he's working on it, I don't see the problem because it's logical these things take time.

And it doesn't make sense to work on the attack first when our defence is much better, putting points on the board is the name of the game so that has to be done too, and we have the best joint defence in the league, so there is progress being made.

I don't see the point in judging a team in transition as if they should be playing like champions.

The players may have got him but Balu on here said the fans were glad to see the back of him. Problem is the players aren't watching the games, we are.
They weren't saying that in the summer when he almost did the treble in his first season.

Bayern fans I have spoke to said in the season after he was a bit unlucky because of the summer world cup and the politics at the club and then he also made some mistakes. They are obviously happy how it turned out with Heynckes and Guardiola but they still respect the work he did there.

The manager has admitted our play this season in the final third has been poor, he's working on it, in the past his successful teams were good and quick in the final third so we know he can do it. We have the best joint defence in the league (despite Shaw's injury) and considering that was the biggest concern at the start of this season I think his work deserves credit, the midfield is not bad but the attack must improve, the fact the defence has improved though to me suggests the offence can too, these things do take time though, we'll see what happens as the season progresses but I don't get the opinion Louis van Gaal is clueless.

It's a team in transition, expect there to be problems, but next season or the one after they no longer will be, the work they do now determines how good they will be. I like the focus on tactics, it's important if you want to be competing for trophies, especially on the european stage.

You feel positive after reading that? Literally the only hint of positivity from that is how we'll benefit from Van Gaal's time here when he moved on. I mean, that's nice but I reckon I'd be a lot happier with a manager in charge who will benefit us while he's still here!

The quote from Lahm is alarmingly familiar and doesn't portray Van Gaal in a good light at all.

    * This is what Lahm wrote in his book: “We almost fell apart defensively… Van Gaal’s system focused only on possession, but never ball desire… We lost the ball for a variety of reasons and made it easy for our opponents to get goalscoring opportunities… I talked about my concerns with him often, but he always decided for what he felt was right. And he didn’t have any doubts in either himself or his system… A modern trainer needs to lead his team, but he can’t bind his players against their will to a style that the team isn’t suited to… A tactical system is ultimately only as good as the players can carry it out, and the great art of a modern trainer lies in the ability to devise a system that is suited to their players. Consistency and reliability are marks of a team in which every player knows their responsibility and what their personal strengths can bring to the system… Our defense had neither consistency nor reliability…

Yes, there is a quote in there that matches my mood perfectly.

I'd say his possession based style wasn't exciting but it definitely brought much needed stability after the horrible Klinsmann era.
I still feel that we're in transition and that judging a team in transition by title winning standards is pointless, that being said we should be better than we are atm, and louis does share the blame for that but I don't feel he's done enough to warrant a mid season cop out. I realise that some fans demand more of him and I should respect that but me, personally, this is where I stand. I see this as a necessary stage to build a foundation for the future. Again, I'm happy to see him walk at the end of the season if nothing improves but at times 'some' criticisms is way over the top, now we have people saying bastian, darmian and memphis were poor buys when i feel the biggest problem we have is movement of the ball and scoring goals. Sometimes it just gets a bit excess but i guess that is a result of the football we play being frustrating to watch.

LVG isn't perfect and I never said he was but lahm admits his teachings were necessary to take bayern to the next stage. One thing I like about the reddit post is the acknowledgement from bayern fans that with hindsight it is easier to see why some LVG made some of the questionable decision he did.

Hopefully, we'll be laughing with the gift of hindsight to.
