Caf are unhappy with the lineup, this is usually a good sign.

    Slabhead MOTM, calling it now.

Short term - just focusing on this match - then that teams a worry and I'm even more nervous than I already was.

But, long term, I think it's a valid call. The league, we're only worried about top 4 so can afford the odd slip up - especially with scores yesterday. So I think it's understandable to use this opportunity to rest Varane and Martinez - Varane especially with his injury record - to try and make sure they're fit enough for the Barcelona double header and the cup final.

It lessens our chances today a little, but is the kind of squad management needed when juggling four competitions and injuries are piling up.

Maguire awesome, would have started AWB if fit also. Please play Rashford left and Sancho right. Also it’s like flogging a dead Weghorst playing Wout.

Ah well let’s see how we go, draw at best for me.

Most likely it's Ten Hag getting Malacia sharp before Barca, and Varane just being rested. He's shown often he wants match sharpness.
I do think yesterday’s results has had an influence on ETH’s lineup. We had to find a match where we can rest some key players. ETH probably decided this is the one because even if we drop points it’s not disasterous based on other results.

At least we won't be massively punished for dropping points.

Big winners this weekend are Liverpool. Win tomorrow and it's the start of their march.

The minute I saw Maguire and Shaw in CB and remembered no Casemiro... I think I popped my pants a little :nervous:
Perhaps after the last game we will not be bothered with possession that much and don't try to fight them all over the pitch. So we don't have to play a high line with HM and focus on counters a bti more.

The game was very open and ETH probably didn't quite expect such tireless pressing from their side. They were all over the pitch though so with them going all out we should create many opportunities while staying comapact at the back..

That defense has me worried. To have none of our first choice CBs playing is a huge gamble, especially against a team who will press them. It's not solely about Maguire's speed, he takes way too much time on the ball. I really hope EtH has instructed Sabitzer and Fred to drop deep regularly to help out. A repeat of last time is on the cards if we don't learn from our mistakes.

Glad to see Sancho start though. Hope he terrorizes them like he did last time.

I've got to be honest I'm very concerned after seeing the lineup. All of the problem areas from the last game against Leeds have remained the same and we've taken our best 2 cbs out of the lineup. I fear we might drop more points today.

A bit of a mad line up at the back but I don’t know why people are freaking out so much. We’ve gave Leeds a pasting on numerous occasions with Maguire and Lindelof in defence. Chill.

I actually think Maguire should be fine today. Bamford isn’t a huge threat with runs in behind. Maguire will probably relish physically challenging him.

The lineup has to decided on tactical reasons if Varane and Martinez are fit. Don’t understand it personally as Martinez is suspended for Thursday.

Lindelof was superb last year at Elland Road. Would have gone with him and Maguire and rested Shaw.

    We all love United
Maybe Erik has seen something that he didn’t like in the 2-2 and decided to change his defence. Let’s trust the manager

If we believe he’s the manager he is then we have to trust it surely?
If he gets this badly wrong after only playing them 4 days ago then I don’t know what to say
Don't get me wrong Varane needs managing, I heard Martinez is suspended for Barca so why isn't he starting? It's more a reflection on how shite the squad is tbh

can't see us winning with that team, we will be ran through by their midfield

It's only Varane rested though. The rest is pretty much guaranteed to start vs Barca, apart from whoever is dropped for Casemiro.

There is something missing in that lineup.. something that glues them all together. I don't really know what to expect. Hoping for the best.

Not expecting any clean sheets though, could be open game.

The main surprise is Martinez on the bench. He wouldn’t have another game until Leicester at home which shouldn’t be too challenging as a defender. I would have had him nailed on to start this being suspended against Barca. Unless he has a knock.
Yeah that's odd although I'm not worried about Shaw at CB. Maybe Malacia will cover inside midfield more than if we'd played Shaw at LB.

Caf's having a proper meltdown over the lineup. So it means we're going to smash them. Come on boys. We're Man United. Earn and respect the shirt.

Think we’ll be beaten here. Simply too many of the first team missing.

Martinez, Varane, Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony and Martial.

Maguire will be up for this, being a Sheffield lad he surely must hate Lee U.

Martinez too. Which is the biggest surprise. He doesn’t play against Barca.

So it’s Martinez banned on Thursday and Maguire needs some match rhythm and ETH likes a left footed LCB so Shaw comes in over Varane?

I just realized no McTominay either. Not as confident as I was before.

Yeah our whole spine missing is a big challenge. I’m not too concerned about the Leeds team. It’s more the fact it’s at their ground and their fans will really lift them.

Lads it’s Leeds. They really aren’t anything special. Infact they’ll probably get relegated.

    "Terrible team....which means we'll win."

Any evidence for this? Because every time we've put out a wank team this season we've been fecking hockeyed.

It'll be no different today. Harry fecking Maguire...

Maybe simple as ETH wasn’t happy with their performances last match. Personally think this setup will struggle even more with their press but let’s hope I’m wrong.

Gnonto is going to turn Harry inside out when he cuts in. I’m going to bet on him giving a penalty away.
