How is this Raiola’s fault? I know we all hate him but bloody hell — I’m sure this is just Gianluigi trying to get his brother back home in Milan on good money, as opposed to living on a third league Greek team salary. Raiola just helped facilitate that - being a very good agent.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Milan for actually giving in...!

Despite our injuries, Fred must be rested. Him and Matic together is too defensive anyway, McT is a better link to Bruno and the forwards.

I feel optimistic about what James can do in this game. We need to see more from Martial to get anything though. He was good against City but only because it was a game that required him to do a very specific job, mostly the one thing he can be bothered to do most games these days, hold the ball up. He'll need to be more expansive against Milan.
That's the line up I'm hoping to see, for much the same reasons.

I envy your confidence in a team that lost to Sheffield United, one of the worst teams in Premier League history, just a month or so ago.
They certainly weren't better than us, game looked very even and it deserved a draw. At the time I thought only one goal decision went against us, but it turned out from the official report we got fecked by the arbitration twice. Doesn't excuse the loss and all the other draws we've had recently, but using the Sheffield loss to make a case for how shit we are currently is a bit misleading.

I don't think foreign clubs have figured us out as much as some of the English teams that have stolen points from us recently. They won't be used to the way we play, even if they did their homework. Maybe it's wishful thinking, we'll see.

A little water dabbed on the forehead, a couple of slaps to the cheeks and a sprinkle of salt in the eye and that half day is yours.
Was thinking about that, but no. In that case they would send me to do Covid test and all of my colleges will panic. This way I have to do everything I can do to have as less as possible, or nothing to do when the game starts. I can do it! I can do it! I better stop saying it and start doing it!

So no Cavani (or Rashford). Makes me even less confident.... it it right, at least, that Zlatan is injured? If he plays, I can't see our defence holding him

Both teams injury riddled, but Milan maybe more so. Anything less than a clear 2 goal winning margin here wouldn’t be great heading back to Milan.
I disagree: any win tonight means the onus is on them to attack at home and we could play our favourite game there. Without the crowd, the San Siro isn't particularly intimidating. It's not like 2007.

    This is mad.
Scholes wasn't exactly an assist machine. He has 55 in 499 Premier League games, and I'm willing to bet most of them are from before Rooney's time, when he played in a more advanced position. And under Fergie, we were never a team that relied on clever through balls from midfielders to strikers.

Think the below will be similar to a lot of peoples teams. Unfortunately we are forced to almost play this lineup due to all the injuries otherwise I would have liked VDB and Cavani to have started.

    -----------------------------------------Henderson-------------------------------------------
    AWB------------------Bailly-------------Maguire------------------------Telles
    ---------------------------------Matic-------------Fred---------------------------------------
    Greenwood-----------------------Fernandes----------------------------------James
    -----------------------------------------Martial-------------------------------------------------

A clash of 2 former heavyweights. Feels fitting we’re facing them in the Europa league. Hopefully this season is the last time we’ll play in the Europa for a while

Yep Scholes will have oodles of key passes/the pass before the assist.

How much pace does their team have? Not watched Milan play for years

Unavailable players: De Gea, Pogba, Mata, VdB, Rashford, Jones; Theo Hernandez, Bennacer, Calhanoglu, Ibra, Rebic, Mandzukic, Maldini.. About our players: they all suffered minor injuries and everyone but Ibra will be fit for the 2nd leg.

Surely Dalot can't play? Did we sell him?

With one goal for wrongly disallowed and one goal against wrongly allowed (both acknowledged in the referees report). Against a defence looking to park the bus, a two-goal swing against you is potentially insurmountable to anyone.

We've fecked up a lot recently. Everton was entirely our own fault, as was West Brom. Should have done better against Palace too although they played brilliantly. But Sheffield was down to the referee.

Know this competition can divide opinion amongst our fanbase, however it's worth considering that winning this means you go into pot 1 for the main Champions League draw.
A point missed on those who wanted us to throw the Europa league last year. We ended up in a free cup of death and getting knocked out whilst Sevilla coaster through and drew an average BVB in the last eight

Palace were not brilliant against us. If they’d been able to launch a decent counter attack we’d have lost that game comfortably. We were lucky Zaha wasn’t playing.

They didn’t even really have to defend particularly well because of how woeful we were.

I agree with the rest though.

The squad today according to MEN's bushwork.

Grant, Henderson; Bailly, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Williams; Fernandes, Fred, Matic, McTominay; Amad, Greenwood, James, Martial, Shoretire.

Didn't expect Shaw to start, but thought he would be on the bench. Other than that no surprises, other than maybe Galbraith on the bench since we have few subs already.
But he and others might still show up.

It's a loan but I think he is still eligible to play, similar to when Courtois played against Chelsea when he was at Atletico.
That loan rule of inelegibility to play against parent club is only set by the FA for domestic competitions.

In European cups according to UEFA rules, loan players can play.

So yes, Dalot is eligble to play against us today.

Really excited for this, just a bit tragic we're playing Milan on a Thursday night at 6pm but whatcha going to do.

    We will win.
It is odd the broadcasters agreed to that time.

Probably one of the 'sexiest' sounding ties the Europa League has had in a long time and they've got it in the B slot.

UEFA rules expressly forbid any sort of clause in a loan contract that would prevent a player from playing against his parent club, as it undermines the integrity of the competition (basically, a club could influence another club's team selection).

I think the FA should follow suit as well. Or, preferably, just abolish the loan system but that's another discussion.

Imagine ten years back someone telling you Milan and United will be playing in the Europa League.

I'm guessing Telles for Shaw, Bailly for Lindelof, Matic for Fred and Greenwood for Rashford.

Would have loved if he threw in Amad from the beginning. But Greenwood and James need to start.

Interesting. Surely the alternative opens up just as many issues. What if he injured one of our players? Scored an own goal or just has a terrible game. Seems a weird situation, but maybe that's just because it's what we're used to.
