He has been all game, made a point to watch him mainly as I'm bitter he's starting ahead of Rafael. He'd made 4 mistakes before the goal and has made a few since.

Rafael would be harshly criticised for such errors but since we all have low expectations of Val to begin they pass without comment
True. I really think he needs to come on at half time, or put Young at RB and a new left winger.

Not really. They've just set-up defensively and trying to counter. Defending very deep.
They definitely look like they're missing key players to me. Don't look as secure in possession as usual. And obviously they're missing Giroud up top.

You honestly think it was worst of the season and "woeful"?
In relation to what LVG wants, then its up there.

Its much more like a 'classic' United team, which a lot of the fans like, but I doubt LVG will.

Rafael would be better than Shaw as LB. And Young and Blind haven't really done worse this season than they did first half.

Its not entirely down to him there no, but he's definitely not supposed to be vacating his position until there is no other choice. When the offensive player is otherwise just onto the goalkeeper. The fullbacks should cover as the last line, not charge out of their position leaving a gaping hole so that the offensive team no longer needs to go through the middle because you've given them a clear and inviting avenue down the side thats a lot easier.

It was a mistake from him for sure, that time it wasn't all his own fault. But the other 4 or 5 times he's been out of position or showing Sanchez inside onto his right foot, thats the issue

It doesnt help that Di Maria shows no interest in defending either. We have a right flank who on the night are utterly clueless of how to defend.

Either we take Valencia off (or put Young on the right to have some more defensive responsibility to help him) or I predict that'll be where Arsenal score again, attacking our left flank where we have 2 players who arent going to defend properly
Yeah exactly, I thought that there was a moment where if he hadn't shifted inside then the Arse player would've had a free run into the area, need to see it again though. Even if there was, he does keep closing down way more than he should have.

His positioning has definitely been shocking most of the time so far, and like you mention it's made even worse by Di Maria not giving a shit about defending. I'm surprised Sanchez hasn't had more joy tbh.

Blind was not bought for his speed , he bring so much more to United .
I think Blind looks a bit flustered in possession. Hope he calms down a little in the 2nd half.

Young and Herrera have been pretty anonymous too. The Arsenal players are picking us apart sometimes but luckily they're not doing anything with it bar Chamberlain. Rooney is the best player on the pitch so far though.

Di Maria has been good but some bad giveaways. This is what he does. But his crossing has caused arsenal problems. This is when he is so dangerous. If they press him to stop the crosses he can beat his man and cause havoc.

Blind has been a good signing but he looks lazy and weak at times. Our 2 best defensive midfielders in Carrick and Blind are physically outmatched too often. This is worrying.

Valencia isn't having his best game, caught out of position for the goal and has recklessly left his position on other occasions. When he's up against Sanchez he needs to be more disciplined. Otherwise we might as well have rafael at right back

Decent half. It was good that we equalised so soon after the goal.

Our defence is concerning me though. They are getting sucked out of position quite easily and it is creating a lot of space for Arsenal. We are also commiting a lot of bodies forward which is also creating space for them.

I think we should think about subbing Young as well. He hasn't had to much of the ball but he has been poor with it.

Valencia and Shaw have been very poor, which is unlike them defensively.
I'm not even surprised that Valencia has been poor. He's finally being exposed for the lack of defensive qualities that he has. This is what we badly miss when Rafael (or at least a proper right back) isn't playing for us.

I wouldn't mind seeing Valencia come off for Rafael at the moment. Valencia has been a huge weak point in our defence. He's been a big contributor to Monreal's goal, and every time Arsenal attack, Valencia makes it easier for them to do so.

Shaw settled in well after a shaky first period. He's starting to get into grips with Ox, and we just need Rafael to come in for Valencia to strengthen our right side.

di Maria has been very lively and dangerous so far as well as Rooney, even if Rooney's not been involved. Fellaini's having a below average match at the moment, conceding too many fouls and being very poor at winning the ball. He's been quite meh going forward as well, which I'm not surprised with, and he's been at his best when he's been on the receiving end of the far-post crosses from di Maria.

Herrera and Blind need to show more discipline in their game. They need to stop pressing Arsenal, else it will be easier for them to open us up. Young has been quiet in the match so far, barely getting involved going forward whilst doing much of his work off the ball.

We need to press less and keep ourselves organised if we are to stop Arsenal. Welbeck's been quite sloppy and ineffective so far, but he'll start to become more dangerous if we keep dragging ourselves around. Sanchez is giving Valencia a horrible time at the moment, and we need our midfielders to stop getting dragged out wide too easily. We can win this match if we play with more control and less chaos.

That was fun to watch, even Valencia deciding to go walkabouts. Seeing us get Di Maria in behind a few times makes me wish we'd drop off a bit more rather than dominate the ball so much. Would mean Blind gets some help from the other midfielders because his lack of pace is getting exposed.

Worried about this as it opens up 2nd half & Arse get a bit more space toknock it around.

Herrera hasn't, he's been on the ball a fair bit. Young definitely has though, only been in the game a couple of times, and completely lacks end product.

My first sub would be Adnan on to run at Bellerin for the last half hour (or have AdM swap sides).

LVG was chatting with Carrick on the way in though...

Been so so impressed with Valencias discipline, work rate and desire in the first half. He was out of position for their goal, but in every other bit of play all half he was great. Great strength. Been up there with the best performers in the 1st half.

When we defend, our players are too focused on the ball and the opposing players when they should focus on closing down the space they leave behind.
