I am convinced we deliberately keep it cautious and low tempo first half to hit hard in second when opposition is tired. This Jeckyl and Hyde performance in games happens too often to be a coincidence
You might be on to something. Lull them into attacking us so they leave space and we just destroy them! We must be up there for best direct/counter attacking team on the planet?

    And he’s your mate? ;)
We were at Uni together for 5 years in all the same classes and at a few societies together so he kind of grew on me because I couldn't get away from him haha.

Did he have VVD in there?
Yes, even though I reiterated to base it on this season and not to pick GK's,

    KDB,
    Salah,
    VVD,
    Kane,
    Mane,
    Aubameyang,
    Diaz,
    TAA,
    Robertson,
    Alisson

I laughed out loud at a few of those, Mane & Alisson being the two heartiest.

That’s some sheer delusion right there.

Well the second half performance was top notch. I commented at half time there was somethign wrogn with some of our players if we couldnt get past this ROma side, was surprised just how poor they were.
Decent defensively, a bit of quality on the break....which ended when SPinazola or whatever he was called went off injured. But there movement and passing was shoddy at best more truly awful for a team in the semis of a European competition.
Its almost sad to see how far Italian football has fallen for anybody that used to watch some of the great Italian sides on Channel 4. I thought similar of Milan and couldnt believe we drew with them in the first leg.

I actually can’t believe it was only 2 mins, referees just refereeing the narratives again.
Ya. Five goals, three substitutions, at least one injury (Pogba), and one VAR review and he comes up with two minutes. I've been saying it for years, it's time that there is an official clock which the referee can start and stop. In this day and age, everything is wireless and there's no reason why it should be done.

Roma were very poor from the off, no idea how they managed to lead at half time.

Excellent performance to turn it around second half. Could have scored a couple more and really made it safe.

Hopefully Ole doesn't get past this semi only to blow it early in the final.

Same actually. I thought when I wrote that that PSG would get a good result

Can only hope it pisses United off enough to go out there tonight to prove that Europa is below our level and we should be in the Champions League
Well, we got there in the end!

Now we just have to hope Poch's PSG do what they did away to Bayern at the Allianz and away to Barca at the Nou Camp - win at the Etihad!

    Called it!
Tbf I was raging at HT. it's so much easier calling it after the fact.

It was frustrating to see us start well and basically stutter as soon as the pen was given.

Still don't think we deserved to go in at half time losing the game....but weren't creating enough between 20 mins and 40 mins odd.

Pleased with the second half...they got away with us only getting 5. Really good performance but still looking for that over the course of 90 minutes at some point.

Man looking at my posts yesterday I looked a proper wanker! But that's football and how it affects my mood and it won't change. Just so glad we spanked them in the second half. Roma didn't deserve the lead in the first place which made it all so incredibly frustrating.

I was feeling really despondenr as well at that point. Lucky I don’t post in forums during games, as t thoughts that crop up when in that mood is utter garbage :D

To think, a year and a half ago we struggled unless we got the first goal. ‘We couldn’t break down etc etc’. Now, being down a goal is an expected part of a rout :)

That's why I stay out the match day thread for the most part pal :) I throw my toys out the pram regularly! it's never changed for me either.

It did make it incredibly frustrating...I think we can all live safe in the knowledge that we've all made wankers of ourselves of some point!

People say all sorts in the heat of the moment...it just frustrates me a bit how much gets directed at Ole. Though I'd say I can't profess to be 100 percent sure on him as others are...

Main thing is we got ourselves out of trouble...we really still do need better quality in key areas to push on.

Totally agreed, although I'm one of those that's giving Ole a hard time on here. I'm simply not sure about him and I let that influence my posts way too much.

it was the same after the Southampton match.

I don’t understand this notion that “the game is over” so we should finish the match early. The ref/ officials have no right to make this arbitrary decision.

Exactly! It’s none of their business and besides maybe goal difference is vital to someone playing (or even someone not playing), and especially in a game that is over two legs. They have no right to make that call.

Progress is a difficult measure...I'm not sure he's the right or best man 100 percent.

I do think we are a better side moving in a better direction though...but trophies are a part of that...and we have a way to go to compete at the level City and Liverpool have over the last 3 or so years (Mickeys this year aside).

The next season or two will define it. If we challenge for the title and show real consistency to find ourselves in and around that 90 points mark (which it seems you have to do these days) I think that's the progress that needs to develop. But there are at least 3 positions...4 if Cavani goes that need serious quality brought in to help that.

I avoid posting during games due to that reason, what goes through my mind during a bad patch of a game is pure tripe :P ...

There’s one thing that’s much worse than irrational posts during game, though, and that’s defending them afterwards. I only wish more could hold up their hands like you did and acknowledge the influence of the temporality of mental states (also known as ‘the insanity plea’). (Disclaimer: I’m joking)
