Will Coutinho be playing, if he does it will no doubt be a blinder.

Regardless I still fancy us going out with a whimper.

Any legitimate reason why this is on a monday?

Because he's a very good second choice GK and deserves game time, otherwise we lose him.

I'm not sure if Sancho has played as a false 9 but that's not to say he wouldn't be a success there.
Fair enough. I don't really rate Henderson like some do and can't see him sticking around to be backup, whether he gets a cup game here and there or not. Ddg is in great form and the cup is one of the few opportunities left for silverware so I'd play him. Can see your logic too though. Re Sancho...again, I see where you're coming from but it just seems odd to me to spend a lot of money to solve our problems on the right only to turn him into a false nine (not a role we've used in the past) when we already have Ronaldo and cavani to play CF. I'd hope we can just make Sancho work in the position for which we presumably bought him and I worry that pissing around with his position will hinder that.
    Quite a lot for Dortmund.
Really? I've only ever seen him play on the flanks (but then I don't watch Dortmund much!) and most sources online seem to have him only playing a handful of games there over the last season or two. That said...we all know how trustworthy most of those online sources are...!

Be a week since last game so should be fresh enough.

Expect us to look lethargic, no energy, can't pass ball 5 yards.

yeah it's a massive disadvantage to United chasing top 4 playing always playing last recently after all the other top 4 teams all win. Spurs with a very very jammy late winner must've been very deflating. I'm not suggesting that's the reason we lost we still would've lost against Wolves but it doesn't help does it when you feel the footballing gods are against you..

you know Klopp, Tuchel or Pep would call out the TV companies if this kept happening to them. But Rangnick stays silent. No fight like most of the team right now. I think even loveable Ole would've called it out.

like what is happening with our postponed games against Brighton and Brentford? So slow to rearrange..

United can still salvage the season. We have only just past the halfway point of the season

United get Top 4 and win the FA Cup that would be considered a good season. Considering we was 4th favourites to win the league nobody expected United to win the league anyway.

but right now getting Top 4 and winning the FA Cup would take a miracle.. But surely these players have professional pride to give a reaction?!

    I'd play

    Henderson

    Telles
    Lindelof
    Varane
    Dalot

    Mc
    Fred
    Donny/Matic

    Ronaldo
    Bruno as a false 9
    Sancho/Greenwood

4-3-3 with 3 proper midfielders (no disrespect to Bruno he isn't a midfielder) keeping the shape of the team and dominate the midfield like all the top teams play. I don't think Liverpools midfield is any better man-for-man.

Bruno as a false 9 flanked by Ronny and Sancho or Greenwood. Keep Bruno as far away from the midfield as possible as losing the ball near the oppositions box isn't as dangerous as losing it in the midfield with the team out of shape.

Press the hell out of them (Ronny can still do it as proven against Crystal Palace). And More Crystal Palace please with the defenders playing a high line pegging Aston Villa inside own half having wave after wave of attacks.

try something different. No messing about.

Brentford has been re-arranged for 19th.

I like the majority of this but Henderson seems set on leaving and DDG doesn't need a rest, we don't need to do Henderson any favors so I would keep DDG and I do prefer Shaw over Telles but agree for the cup game to play Telles, I would give Jones another runout as well in place of Varane who we should save for the cup. I also want to see Ronaldo dropped strangely as I think he could do with a rest

I will rest DDG Ronaldo and Cavani actually. We will have weekend and midweek games after this. But the rest of players should not be rested.

    Rashford Greenwood
    Bruno Sancho
    Fred VDB
    Telles Varane whoever fit Dalot
    Dean

Villa has signed Coutinho on loan. Luckily, man utd don't have to face him.

Fair points wouldn't disagree with any of them

I just don't understand why neither Ole (4-2-3-1 which was basically 4-2-4 man) or now Rangnick (4-2-2-2 which is basically 4-2-4 man) has tried playing a 4-3-3 formation with this team? It's crying out for more midfield control and with the 3 in midfield you have a better chance of controlling the game and midfield.

it's like it's stubbornness or something. Most top teams play 4-3-3

Not too many changes for me as I think it's about building momentum and not the time to rotate too many, 4 max. Dalot should play ahead of AWB. I would take Cavani out and play Greenwood alongside Ronaldo. I can't see Matic playing another consecutive match.

Normally would agree but Shaw is suspended for the next PL game so I am certain will play Monday with Telles replacing him at the weekend, for the same reason McTominay has to be nailed on to start.

If Jones is fit, he starts. It’s simple. Guy put in a great shift against wolves and deserves to start.
i loved the way he brought the ball out of defence into the midfield so calmly and assured. Was beautiful to see as we are use to Maguire playing hoof ball. Jones should be ahead of Maguire on current form.

He's played 1 game in 2 years and he's still in better form than Maguire.

Says it all about Maguire really.

I think it's dressing room power and our squad is top heavy, they are too desperate to fit all the top attacking talent on the pitch rather than prioritise balance and get the most out of the (small number of) attacking players on the pitch. We know full well that certain players have to play, Ragnick has already been forced to apologise about his comments regarding Rashford, I'm not sure any manager since SAF has properly had much power to make these big decisions.

Would love for him to ditch the 4222. It just doesn’t work. I can’t see him changing it in a cup game though since an FA cup trophy would be great for the club right now.

    I disagree.

At least the players go on the pitch knowing they have to win because their nearest rivals have already won their match.

Let's put it this way, just supposing a team, any team, by bizarre circumstances at the end of the season have played 37 games & are 2nd in the league table 2 points behind the team at the top who have played all 38 games, now the second place team are about to play their 38th & final game of the season knowing if they win they will win the league, would those players not be up for the game just because the team above them played before them? Of course not.

So, really, our top 4 rivals winning should give our players the incentive to go on the pitch to win to keep up with them.

They're complaining at lack of quality and standards, as they should. Difference between being winners and sulky losers blabbering to British press about the manager and rude team mates.
Apart from De Gea, no one in our squad can say they've been up to standard, so if they are doing that, then it's no wonder there's been a split in the dressing room, because the two have been shit themselves.

There has to be a reaction in this game…..

Its not possible for us to play as shite again as we did against Wolves.

Interested to see what changes he makes from that game and who doesn’t start might be telling.

    My hope:
    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Varane Telles
    Bruno Matic Fred
    Sancho Greenwood Rashford

Cavani and Ronaldo just need dropping right now. Not providing anything off the ball or on it. Shame Shaw is suspended. Not sure what anyone can do other than sit and hope something just clicks, but it's very much blind faith so far. I think Ralf absolutely needs to drop Ronaldo/Cavani... Nothing wrong with Ronaldo's attitude, but he's 36, he's never been a striker, and he can't fulfill the role we need him to do.
This line up looks good. Would like to see greenwood starting up front or coming off 5he bench up front rather than out wide

I don't see the attitude or motivation within the squad to change results and performances anytime soon.

Alot of dead-men walking within that squad and mentally I feel some have already left.

That's why having such a bloated squad is a bad thing and many top coaches prefer a much smaller squad to work with. Too many players not playing as bad apples in the locker room which then impacts the whole squad becoming infected. I thought we would be trimming the fat in January and getting rid of a few of these Bad Apples but maybe not.

We have played against them this season already and it was very difficult to break them down.

Since Ferguson left, using the wings effectively and basic link-up play has been a massive issue. None of the managers who came adressed it correctly.

Yeah, Covid hasn't helped. Now the incentive is to keep a larger squad in case players get infected. Not great for team morale though.

I either expect us to either win convincingly because these players actually can perform and have received so much criticism from fans that they temporarily get their finger out.

Or we see our worst performance yet due to players completely downing tools and trying to get manager removed.

Yeah, I thought that after Norwich, I thought that after Newcastle. But yeah, we couldn't possibly play as bad against Villa as we did against Wolves, could we? Villa have a decent midfield, better than ours, and they're gonna be right up for it thanks to Gerrard. I see more pain but I really hope I'm wrong. Is Countinho eligible for this one? Also Shaw's out of the league match next week not this one, right?

Personally, I'd like to see Donny play in this one. Ideally in a 433 or 4231. But if it has to be Ralf's 4222 then so be it. I just hope to hell we don't see McTominay, so sick of watching him hiding.
