Went down to 10 men once Rashford came on. I’ld never play him again now all season.

I'd say you better don't focus too much on the ref - the real reason imho you guys went out against a so-so Atleti is because you very likely won't win against such a club with a disjointed team who relies way too much on individual brilliance.

Well done lads and well played Athletico and the it has to be one of the worst officiating In a long time, weak ref at best, playing a team who can play a weak ref is difficult and he fell for all the dark arts well done to them. Bar for Oblacks big head it could have been different. The Dark arts win.

Unreal how poor we are. I said this after month one of Ralph managing us. He has certainly not been able to get his methods across to this team. The football he has us playing confuses me. People talk about him bringing structure. We look so average and have no idea or consistent patterns of play that actually work. It is still off the cuff type football. How has he got us more hard to beat? We’re still conceding goals left right and centre. The season is over. What is there else to achieve? Top four? Great fecking achievement. We won’t even get that by the looks of it.

    We need a saviour!!!

I’m sorry but subbing Bruno lolled the game.

Pogba and Rashford were absolutely AWFUL.

Rashford ceiling is Everton. Nothing more I’m sorry but he’s not a good enough player for this level.
Agreed. Bringing on one player leaving for free in the summer and another one telling the media he wants to leave after a shambolic season he’s had. Shows where we are at the moment. Would rather see youngsters come on or Mata.

I suggest supporting a Championship team if you like players like him. It's full of them and that's his level.

I am not even being mean.
Maguire has had a poor season. No doubt about that. Today he was one of our better players, and fans still have a go at him. Last season Maguire was among the best defenders in the league and showed high class. I believe in supporting our players, when they have a difficult season, not trashing them week after week.

At least it proved to the board that we are well rid of Pogba and Rashford is not worth keeping. However they are a lot more to think about than that with this team.

Understandably I think De Gea’s still got a real affinity for Atletico and LaLiga teams in general- witness the lack of effort he made in the penalty shootout against Villarreal a couple of yrs ago in the Europa final.

Please, please - just don't blame ref, don't blame Atletico, don't blame weather or aliens. Until this club has proper football structure (aka MC, Pool...) we will be joke of football. Bring great manager, great football director, great scouts and results will come.

There's still every chance they'll nick an early goal and timewaste and shithouse their way to the win, though, especially with a weak referee. :(
    Nobody saw that coming.

Varane has to be over on the left side because Maguire is not in the position you'd expect a defender to be if you play a flat back four. How is it so hard to admit that Maguire leaving the defence is a big issue causing lots of disorganisation multiple times a game? I'm really starting to question the intelligence of anyone who doesn't think it's a problem when a central defender keeps leaving central defence to put pressure on attackers who are far away from goal but without even preventing them from doing what they want to do (which is play the pass).

Only just seen this picture
    So where's the danger?
McT doesn't track his runner, Dalot doesn't need to track inside. Maguire gets back quickly from that position.
The goal is on Dalot, and probably on McT for not getting back quickly enough.
Anyone blaming that on Maguire has obviously never played CB or probably any high level football.
A CB HAS to leave their position occasionally, and as long as the other defenders cover the space it's the right thing to do. Unless you constantly want our defenders on the turn, in which case we will end up defending like Leeds.

I agree that we need a great manager. But sometimes you have to blame aliens.

Please tell me our starting centre backs are Lindelof and Varane.

Maguire is just destined to provide derp moments every game at the moment. Could conceivably see him fecking up if he started, resulting in Atletico scoring the only goal in the game tonight.
    Fecking called it :(

    Shocking but sadly predictable.

Good first half but fairly poor second half when we needed them to up their game.

Something so needs to change in the summer for next season, but sadly I just see a repeat of this season next season maybe even minus CL football.

Bizarre to bring up Pogba in the shit show he didn't have a part in.
He didn't, but as he was brought on he should have. He thinks he is one of the worlds best. I hope he goes to PSG as rumoured and they sell Neymar and Messi and Mbappe leave. Good look then sunshine.

Scholes is pissing me off. Banging on about how we need a better coach, Rangnicks not up to it etc. Didn't have a bad word to say about Ole did he? He's a legend but he talks some shite.

We needed to score in that first half. We didn’t and our soft underbelly came to the fore once again. The ref absolutely made my blood boil but he was not the reason we lost this game.

it actually reminded me a lot of the first 6-7 years under Fergie in the champs league where we were just schooled on how to win European games.

In law grave incompetance is also culpable
It’s bias not just incomptetence. Incompetence would be getting decisions wrong for both sides. It was all one way. Dalot got that card at the end after all their fouls.

Another dispiriting performance from us against the dark lords of shithousery. I knew before the game that we’re not a top 8 team in Europe, but it still hurts

    Horrible game.

Anyone got a gif of that juicy Fred dribble in first half? @GifLord ?
Worth nothing now, but jesus that might be the best dribble I've seen for years at United. Looked Redondo-like.

Football the one sport where everyone watches this and congratulates Atleti on being streetwise . Beyond dreadful to watch and a complete joke. Why is the ref allowing 30+ seconds on every throw in or free kick ? Is managing the clock not a part of his job ? Everyone & their Dog could see what they were trying to do by killing momentum but the ref allows it and then casually gives 4 minutes at the end . That free kick where matic got booked alone took 2 minutes off the clock . Embarrassing spectacle

We need to replace half the squad you mean? Great management isn’t going to solve this.
I disagree. When did United have a top manager last time for a long periode? Is Rangnick a top manager and do the players respect him? Was Solskjær a top manager? Most things start with the manager. We have many top players in the team. Last season we were number 2 and in the summer we bought Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo - we have a very strong team, a stronger team than last season. But something is clearly missing. We can keep buying and spending money, or we can become better organized with a class manager and a clear plan for the club's transfer policy and how the club should function organizationally.

Agree but it has to be said ralf has been incredibly underwhelming. No style of football, very few players have improved. His subs today were odd, bringing on mata after never playing all season

Can't be shocked that's how simeone has had atletici play for years. Somehow fans of all clubs know they kick and push all around them then dive when players get near them. But refs always seem oblivious to this. Any time I've ever seen them in the champions league it's like that. They weren't better than us. But they somehow got frees and no cards where we got none. Tons of softer frees given than the fold on elanga pre their goal. Us being poor is hard enough to take but the ref and subs ruined any chance for us to salvage anything. Bebe was better than rashford

Let's move on , next season now, start moving out the dead wood, plenty there, Maguire can be put on the transfer list first. Rest of the season Lindelof and Varane. At least 8 to go. Athletico bang average side and we still couldn't get a goal, OK we should have there keeper had his bit of luck. Cl will take another 2 seasons to get back or more unless there is a clear out.
