Smalling can't pass the ball and we're playing a team with which we can afford to sacrifice Smalling better defensive abilities to Jones or anyone better abilities on the ball compared to Smalling.

Stick with Jones as disastrous as he is or even bring back Baily who should have served his suspension by then.

No need to feck about. Same XI to start.

Hopefully, Smalling can make the bench and put some pressure on Jones to replace him in the side. Ideally Sanchez/Lukaku to come off the bench as well.

We go to Arsenal in the FA Cup after this and then it's Burnley at OT next in the League. I think those will be the games where we make a few changes, not here.

We're still giving away far too many chances with Jones and Lindelof though. Having 1 out of 11 players who can't pass but can defend wouldn't be a backwards step.

It would if you think about the importance of starting the play from the back. Bar today we've tried to build the play from the back. Smalling would have actually been perfect for this game given the tactics were to go direct and long which means the ability to play from the back wasn't that important but solid defending was.

But against sides we're expected to dominate and build from the back he'd be a problem.

But yeah Jones is a massive problem which is why I'd try Bailey again. His last outing wasn't as disastrous as Jones past few games.

Reminder we've lost twice to these lot since they've been promoted.

    Stuff these cnuts pretty please.
You can say that again. They'll lie down and concede penalities willy-nilly for the likes of Liverpool yet they seem to have an extra fire in their bellies when they play us. Murray, Knockaert, Gross... All those twats.

Hope we bury them and I'd be glad to see them relegated to the Championship.

We won’t see much rotation and rightly so, we have 6 days before this match then 6 more afterwards before the Arsenal game in the cup.

I think we will see a few changes to the starting lineup for BHA. A start for the likes of Dalot, Fred and Lukaku. Maybe Smalling will get a chance too, if he is match fit.

As others have said, Brighton are no mugs and we can't make wholesale changes

I'd keep the same team bar any players who are really struggling with fatigue. I can only assume that Matic and Rashford may be the most knackered, but it is almost a week away

We need to have a look at the bench though as I thought it was really imbalances today, with effectively 4 centre mids. When we were flagging a bit I was scratching my head for changes (didn't really want Lukkaku to come on) and that was perhaps shown by playing Dalot in an attacking position

Hopefully Sanchez will make the squad and a 'new' academy lad (Greenwood please!)

Assuming all are fit, we should play the same side. While it might be tempting to rotate to keep players involved and keep others fresh, there can be no complaints at keeping a winning team on the pitch every week. Momentum and confidence is more important that anything else at this stage.

Especially as we have roughly a week between games for the next 2 matches

This is nearly as big as todays game. We need to win at home against teams like this to keep the momentum going
Bigger, in a way. It would have been acceptable to lose to Spurs away if we'd then gone on to resume our winning streak here. Either way, this one must be a win.

Dalot needs to play. Need him to nail down a place im sick and tired of Young. And where has Rojo gone again? Had enough of Jones. The only issue I have with OGS is he isn't in a position to demand signings. We are in desperate need of a CB. It could make all the difference for the rest of the season.

Players should be chomping at the bit to get back out there again. Get the job done and rest a few in the second half if we can.

Yep. Burnley is probably the 1st game that we look at greater rotation (Not Reading levels)

Couple of changes. People keep asking what the point of changes are, but I think it’s worth noting that fatigue is just as much mental as physical. So yea, one week between games is one thing, but the players have put in great effort over the past 3 weeks to keep winning these games, and important to keep them fresh mentally.

I think Smalling might be back for this one and it's a good game to ease him in, it's also a chance to give Dalot and Fred another run out and rest Ander who ran himself into the ground today. Our midfield options aren't strong enough to rest Matic as well and I wouldn't change the front 3.

I like their manager. Good dude. Does a decent job. But it's time to put them to the sword. No quarters.

Surely, Knockaert can't produce yet another performance of a lifetime against us. He is so annoying to play against.

This will not be as easy as some are thinking. We are in great form but Brighton haven't had a thrashing all year against the top sides. Lost 1-0 to Liverpool twice, 1-2 vs Spurs and Chelsea and only 2-0 at the Etihad, and that's before we talk about our away game there - they can certainly defend well enough.

Hopefully we get an early goal but I've got a feeling it will be a gritty 1-0 with a goal in the 2nd half

Why would we do that. Getting three points here is every bit as crucial as beating Spurs. We play our best team. There's a full week till our next game to recover. Ok we can change some players but I'd keep rashford.
    Agreed on all points.

No need to rotate. The busy Christmas schedule is now out of the way, so like other teams, we should play our strongest XI week in, week out.
A major complaint from most people is that Jose never knew his best XI, so the team could never attain some sort of rhythm and mutual understanding.
As long as the games aren't too close, we should play the same team, every week, as long as they play well. If we lose or play badly, then we can re-assess.

We know what to expect from them. A solid 4-5-1 formation with every player knowing their responsibilities. They have capable runners but we should be able to deal with them.

Another test for our defense on set pieces against Duffy and Murray.

Wouldn't mind seeing a little bit of rotation. Would go for:

    Dea Gea
    Dalot - Lindelof - Jones - Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera - Pogba
    Mata - Rashford - Martial

I would even consider starting Sanchez over Martial. If he is to gain any sort of form he needs to start games, and not just as a part of disjointed sides in the FA Cup.

This is a must-win and with Arsenal-Chelsea playing immediately after, we could have 5th by the end of the day

Can't get complacent... We have done well to close the gap.. Can't afford any silly slip ups.

    Smalling -> Jones
    Dalot -> Young

Rest of the team to be the same as Spurs

We should of course win - but people expecting an easy game - look at these 2 stats:

Brighton have 3 times this season lost by 2 goals (Everton, Watford and City away) - never by 3 goals

Only Everton have scored 3 times against Brighton this season

If Smalling is back, time to bring him in. I reckon him and Lindelöf will do very well together under Ole, definitely an improvement on Jones albeit not a huge improvement. Smalling will bring dominance in the air at least, which could be an issue with Murray.

The same team who beat Spurs please Ole. Unless Smalling is 100% fit in which case swap him in for Jones.
