Can't see RR moving away from his 4222. Seems quite stubborn but at the same time, as he said, if we're not going to work hard enough off the ball, then the system is irrelevant.

It will be interesting to see who he drops/rotates against Burnley, because when it comes to physicality, aggression, energy - all assets of the game RR wants to see, Burnley will have it all.

If we start with 2 strikers, we're going to struggle with possession and even struggle to win the game!

Drop the 2nd striker and play a 3 man midfield.

I don't think we'd struggle with possession. I think the wide 10's make up for a lack of an extra centre midfielder, simply because the play in the half spaces, effectively making it a midfield box. I mean, we had 70% possession against Newcastle - our highest in an away game this season, but it's all about what we do with the ball.

We need width. The only good moments in the game came about when we pushed the ball out wide.

I would like to see Greenwood and Cavani as the two 9s, vdB and Lingard as the two 10s and Fred and McTominay as the two 8s. Certainly plenty of legs in that team. Hopefully the attitude and energy of the other five rubs off on Greenwood

Ronaldo doesn't deserve to start this match, nor has the legs. Greenwood only played 45' last match so my bet is:

    Cavani Greenwood
    Rashford Sancho
    Donny Fred
    Shaw Maguire Varane Dalot
    DDG

Maybe Donny for Rashford then McT plays.

I'd like to see Rashford back with Shaw. These two generally work pretty well together and Telles was crap last match.

Looking forward to see Cavani with Greenwood up top.

Shows you just how much me rely on players near retirement in key positions sadly. But that’s the best team we have with the players available and a team that should get the job done.

Burnley will sit deep and soak up our slow slow build up and then try and hit us on the counter. They won’t press too high especially as Barnes isn’t playing. It will be a usual home game. Pretty passing and all stops twenty yards out as someone waits for Ronaldo to make a run. I wish Greenwood would start and he plays his own game and not keep trying to play in Ronaldo. Start Cavani and Greenwood and bring Ronaldo on in the second half. 2-0 reds.

Let's hope that we see at least a bit of progress this time. Ronaldo and Cavani up top. VDB and Sancho. Matic and Fred. Then replace Telles with Shaw.

Bearing in mind Matic barely plays, and Cavani has played about 2games by the end of December, they're hardly players we "rely" on.

I really wouldn't be against seeing Mejbri involved somewhere in some way. We're so desperate for creativity in midfield.

Ibra starts for potential Italian champions AC Milan at 40/41 years of age and there's talk of him getting a new contract too because the club is so pleased with him.

how come Ibra can start for AC Milan at 40 years of age (and he started for Manchester United not far off Ronaldo's agebut some people think Ronaldo can't start for top 4 contenders Manchester United at 36/37 years of age especially with the way Ronaldo looks after himself and lack of serious injuries.

I don't understand the difference. Especially when Ronaldo is a genuine GOAT and the best goal scorer statistically of all-time.

the media and pundits in England are horrible with the agendas. Sadly a lot of fans fall for it judging by the comments in this thread too :( Sad.

the media and fans didn't go on about Zlatans pressing when he played and started ALL the games for Manchester United. And he was around Ronaldo's age! It's a disgrace.
Milan are 4 points behind Inter and starting 40 year epic Benjamin Buffoon Zlatan is a big part of why they won’t win anything.

How many beers are needed to enjoy this shit. Watch these long ball enthusiast give us a hard work and tough to watch 0-0 and DDG makes another TV save.

I think we go 4-2-2-2 again:

    De Gea

    Dalot Varane Lindelof Telles

    VDB Fred

    Sancho Greenwood

    Ronaldo Cavani

Really struggling to be in any way excited for this. More Morbid curiosity of how good we can make Burnley look
We specialise in making average or below average sides look like world beaters.

Did the team even trained today and prepared for the game ?
They spent a whole week preparing for the Newcastle game and put in the most pathetic performance of the season where we gave
the ball away the most times of any PL fixture we've had all season.

Whatever this team does is training is clearly not good enough.

As I hope we line up:

    --------------------De Gea--------

    Bissaka-Bailly-Varane-Shaw

    ----------McTominay-Fred-----------
    ----------Greenwood-Sancho---------
    ----------Rashford--Cavani------------

I do not think that Dalot or Telles are good enough to play for United. Telles might even be the worst left back, I can remember playing regularly for us.

I'm sorry, "Ronaldo doesn't deserve to start this match" yet you start Rashford? Ronaldo hasn't had the ball enough up top with his graveyard shift, hospital ball after hospital ball from those behind, he's shown he has the legs and that's not an issue but he needs a foil. Martial or Cavani would suit Ronaldo up top for me

They didnt have the whole weak, I think they started training in full capacity on Friday.

3 days as a full group and 2 days staggered return before it is still a decent amount of time to come up with better than what we saw.

Because in contrast with a large amount of the caf posters imo Rashford has been our best attacker among the starters in the last two matches. The best in a bad bunch.

Many were understandbly frustrating with his repeative failed efforts but in fact, to my entrained eyes he was probably the only one tried to do anything with some purpose while Ronaldo was basicaly non existent. Imo Ronaldo was effectively the worst player in the last two matches. He repeatedly failed even the most basics of a footballer like touch, shield the ball, pass, dribble.

You can check my posts in the Ronaldo performance thread and continue this discussion there if you'd like to. It's been discussing to death there so no need to start all over again here I think.

I want to see a reaction from Rangnick. Dropping big names, etc.
Don't really care about the players. They can do one.

    I just don't want to see a 4-2-2-2 again

It makes our wide players and Bruno all useless
