Should play a higher line and get on top of Fabregas and Kante.

    ----------------de Gea-------------
    -------Lindelof-Smalling-Bailly-----
    Valencia--McTominay-Matic--Young
    ------------------Pogba-------------
    ------------Lukaku-Sanchez--------

McTominay and Pogba can get onto Fabregas and Kante. Pogba should really be dominating Kante and the Chelsea man is not great on the ball. Lindelof to step into midfield if McTominay goes to press.

I hope he starts Shaw, I don't know why he doesn't play him more. Matic could do with a rest but I don't see it coming here. 3 at the back I reckon.
    De gea
    Ballie Lindeloff Smalling
    Valencia McTominay Pogba Matic Shaw
    Lukaku Sanchez

If we were feeling really brave we could start mata or Martial instead of McTominay or Matic, but I think Mourinho will play it safe and wait till we go 0-1 down to make that change

0-0 isnt a bad result for either manager.
Those managers are Mourinho and Conte. See a bore draw here
How can a draw not be seen as anything but a bad result.
3 weeks ago, we were 8 points off 5th.

Chelsea have not been great lately and we beat them fair and square at Old Trafford last year so I am quite positive about this one. Think it'll be 2-0 or 3-0 to us.
Chelsea go into the game with better form. Scored quite a few since they lost to Watford.

A draw keeps you 3 points ahead of Chelsea whilst they have to the 3 other members of the top 5 still. You should be fine to finish in the top 4 with a point here. A loss on the other hand would be disastrous.

I know as a fan you want to go in to every game trying to win but im not sure mourinho will see this game that way.

Last 5 games in this fixture have been: WDDDL

    05-May-13.....Manchester United v Chelsea.....L.....0-1
    26-Aug-13.....Manchester United v Chelsea.....D.....0-0
    26-Oct-14.....Manchester United v Chelsea.....D.....1-1
    28-Dec-15.....Manchester United v Chelsea.....D.....0-0
    16-Apr-17.....Manchester United v Chelsea.....W.....2-0

You've got a team in Chelsea that are gradually improving since a bad run of form. Having Christensen back has been a catalyst for that as they look more organised at the back. They still lack a consistent goal threat though so they're going to struggle to score imo at most 2 goals, probably 1. Meanwhile you have us, we're in a slump of form and gradually getting worse, our confidence seems to be on a low and we're also lacking a bit of spunk upfront (4 goals in last 5 games). We all know our problems so I won't expand any further.

1-1 would be my prediction. If we lose this game, we'll probably end up being 3rd as Liverpool should win, joint on points with Chelsea and with a tricky fixture list ahead. We simply cannot lose this fixture.

The doom thread, Chelsea are in good form ha. They played well at home against Barca, that's the key word at home. They haven't been good away from home since Brighton. United have a great record against Chelsea at home and vice versa. I'm confident going in to this and we should be, hazard and William are the threats but we'll be ready. United and Jose will be well up for this on Sunday. Conte will be getting some abuse on Sunday.

He fixes games, he wears a wig. We all know that Conte wears a wig. Can't wait!

This team should be ashamed if it finishes anything below second. In January, we were 10 points above Spurs.

Draw means Liveprool will overtake us, Spurs will be 2 points behind us.

Draw is a poor result for ManUtd as they play at home.

Wouldn't say draw is a poor result, it's not a good one either though.

    We have 3 options.

    Win - Good result
    Loss - Bad result
    Draw- ?

It's a poor one considering the position we are in and how close the next team is and the fact that it's a home game.

Win is good, loss is poor, draw is just in between.

Or we can put it this way, win is good, draw is very poor. Draw is poor.

Not winning at home is poor as we don't win away from home. It's as simple as that.

I don't understand why anyone would say draw isn't a bad result considering we are playing at home and against a team not better than us.

I don't think we will defeat Liverpool so this and Arsenal are must win games.

If coincidence means anything you'll win.
A couple of years ago I was at Wembley with City for the LC Final and the Sky game immediately before was United pkaying at home to a London club (Arsenal).
You were underdogs that day as you had a load of injuries but got a good victory (hung on at the end, though).

I think that you'll win this one.

They had one league game since and won that 3-0 at home to West Brom. They lost to Watford mere three weeks ago, and they lost 3-0 to Bournemouth the week before that. They're not exactly flying.

Meh. Don't have high expectations for this one, result wise or performance wise. But hopefully we will go out there trying to win instead of settling for 0-0. A draw is not a good result at home.

I've gone with the same team but Shaw instead of Young and Martial instead of Lukaku. I know Jose won't drop Lukaku but if I was the manager I'd pick Martial and Alexis and press hard from the front like we did last season with Lingard and Rashford.

The moon gave me flowers for funerals to come.
Wonder will Jose spring a surprise by having Herrera to man mark Hazzard again ?The muscle injury will have magically disappeared.

Not confident at all to be honest which is a bit of a worry as we are at home, our attack is just pants at the moment. I think Chelsea with some players raising their game a few levels to get one over on JM will certainly be up for it.

Loose this one and were in trouble Id say.

    0-2 Chelsea.

They will be champing at the bit to get us - great time to play United. Any early season promise that was showing has evaporated.

    No Herrera, no joy.

Chelsea are rubbish this year, but I think they’re going to nick it because we are in terrible goalscoring form.

If we want to win a clean sheet is definitely a requirement.

Hazard- Willian are in a bit of form. Can't really say anyone apart from De Gea is in form for Utd. Lingard showed some consistency for a while but he has lost his place. I think Sanchez has created another problem rather than a solution. We are overstocked with players who want to play on the left.

I thought Sanchez was brought to play on the RW (as he did at Barcelona). I think the balance of the team has completely gone now. We look disjointed and uncoached. I hope we can step up vs Chelsea with Liverpool up next, we need to win these games if we want to finish in the top 4.

Considering team's recent disjointed performances, i will happily take a draw. But most likely, it will be 0-2 loss for us.
Only thing that is good is Chelsea needs a win more than us, so that might play into our hands.

Won't feel over confident driving up, but on the other hand don't especially feel worried. It's not like that season we felt we were in for a beating, and managed to beat them 2-0!

We need to get Sanchez properly up and running though. We need one big game to get everything back on track.

This game is really crucial for Jose now.

Win and Top 4 is all but assured as we open up a sizeable gap with Chelsea and Spurs. Pressure will ease off Jose. Lose or even draw playing in the manner we have been doing the past few weeks and it could get ugly.

An interesting encounter - bad blood between the managers, bad blood between some CFC players and Mourinho and whoever loses is dragged into the top 4 battle.

Chelsea do have the extra days rest yet lose some of that due to travelling.

I expect you to play counter attacking against us, think JM will be satisfied with a point though Conte won't.

We haven't been playing great though may have turned a corner.

I think it has already gotten ugly. The Jose hate here, from the media to the call in shows is becoming mind numbing.

We do need to win this match though. The pressure will only get worse if we don't.

My expectation are parking the bus and playing for a draw. After all, it's the Mourinho way.

Mourinho tends to favour 3 CB's vs sides that do the same.

Chelsea have hit a bit of form after some dreadful showings and played really well midweek vs Barca. We've been a shambles for most of the last month. I make them marginal favourites.

How are people saying Chelsea are picking up form? Are some fans so reactionary that they completely erase from their memory anything other than the last game?

Chelsea have the exact same form as us in the last 5 games.

The quality of performances of the two sides across the last three games is fairly stark. They look to be coming out of a slump, we look set to wallow in ours for a while longer.

So their form is based on the exact point where they didn't capitulate against any half decent attack? Why not talk about the last 15 minutes of the Sevilla game where we were quite good for our form as well then?

Chelsea in the last 3 games have played two shambolic teams and one team that has Chelsea as their bogey team. Even then they were poor at the back throughout the whole game and had to rely on Willian to bail them out.

Both Chelsea and United are dysfunctional teams; both of their defences are error prone and their attack is very individualistic. Both are incidentally classical defensive managers and so will generally have the same outlook on this match.
