Is it me or does seem that our fans are more positive because it's a final? With LvG in charge, its hard to expect a win.

Reading through threads I am shocked that some devalue the final and can't get excited for it. Scared to win because LVG might stay, lingering about that damned 4th spot.. Well tell me what will be remembered after 10 years - FA cup win or a 4th spot that lead to elimination from the group stage the following year?

To those who don't rate the FA, think about the difference have we'd not win it in 1999, or if we would have won it in 2008. It used to be "our" cup after all, prior to the 2000 jinx combined with Arsenal's and Chelsea's domination in the last 15 years.

Speaking for myself I can tell you it still hurts to remember that 2005 final vs Arsenal, the final 2007 vs Chelsea, the 2008 qf vs P'smouth and the semis vs Everton and City in 2010-11, losses that hurt as much as any loss in the CL. The FA means a lot to me and I'm sure as hell excited about it. Would love to win it for the first time since 2004(!).

It won't turn an embarrassing season into a great one, but it will be huge to win a trophy (a real trophy, not a second tier trophy like the league cup or the europa league) for the players and the fans alike, specially being the first trophy post Fergie.

Well i'd presume that the optimism stems more from the quality of the opposition than from any expected resurgance from our side.
Palace have players who can trouble us though and we may be lucky to win.

I cant believe that 10% so far have voted for a CP win, thats fecking mental.
Why exactly, it's a Cup final and anything can happen, just takes a Bolasie or Zaha breakway, Blind finding himself one on one with Wickham and we're 1 down.

I didn't vote but I'm curious, why is it mental? Because United are much stronger than Palace and there is no place for pessimism about a LVG side?

Palace odds are 11/5 to lift the cup. They're not no hopers. We've been far from convincing all season and have lost many games already to worse teams than palace. 10% in favour of palace is arguably on the low side if anything.

I think we'll win fwiw but would be surprised if it wasn't a tight game.

I just wish we had a decent right winger or that Januzaj wasn't picking up injuries here and there so he could have a chance to play on that wing.

Had a quick look at the Palace forum and I hope we fecking destroy them. They're saying that they will show up the United fans in front of an audience of billions with their support. Idiots.

Voted for 2:1 win for United but I'm being very optimistic. With LVG in charge, one can never guess what version of our team is coming on the pitch.

We might be bossing and dominating the whole game and lose by 1:0 or we can be bossing and dominating and win 2:0 or we can be all over the place and lose 3:0. Can see all versions happening.

Personally, I hope it'll be a great game and we'll win. LVG gives the cup to us and leaves. I like the guy but the time has ran out. It would be a perfect end for this saga.

Only thing I have doubts about this game is my fitness next morning; going to coach a junior team at 8:00 o'clock.

you could always just play with ten men instead of lingard?

otherwise, given our present circumstances, we should sooner play young (i can't believe i'm saying that) or pereira in place of lingard.

Ah man believe me, I'd take any of those at the moment but LVG won't. He really doesn't do much at all. He works hard and he can keep the ball ok but he is not much of a threat. If we had more pace in our team then I'd start Fellaini and bench Lingard for Mata.

    Very excited for Saturday.

Cup final at Noon and then the New York derby right across the street at 3.

I'm putting everything else about this year out of my head until next Monday, just really want to enjoy the day and be happy we're in a cup final. It's been what since 2011 that we won a cup final so I'm just going to enjoy it.

I fully expect Fellaini to play and probably play well, he will be important in both boxes.

    My team would be this.

    DDG
    Valencia - Smalling - Blind - BoJack
    Carrick - Fellaini
    Mata - Rooney - Martial
    Rashford

I full expect LVG to start Rojo which is a disappointment.

    The bench is hard to call;

Romero, Jones, Darmian, Morgan, Memphis, Herrera, Lingard.

It's incredibly harsh and I'd have Mensah over Jones in the squad but I don't think LVG will.

Same fate for Young, BoJack, Januzaj, and Andreas.

I think we will just manage it.

Palace will be well up for it. They won't get many chances to win a trophy so they will be pressuring us and getting there bodies in front of all our shots like there lives depend on it.

We have more quality though and I think that will come through at the end.

    2-1 us.

Pretty certain that is the team VG will put out.

Palace will sit back, defend and try to hit us on the counter. Hopefully, we'll be able to penetrate their defense and get an early goal to push them out.

    1-0 United.

What's the point in analysing this? We're gonna lose no matter what we do. And with maximum embarrassment. It's how we roll now.

Then Ed offers LVG an extension.

Can't wait for this! Chance to reclaim history with most cup final appearances and wins (will be joint with Arsenal). Anything but a resounding victory will not suffice. Just hope van Gaal puts out the right team. CBJ looked a lot more assured than Rojo against Bournemouth and I just hope Schneiders doesn't come anywhere near the first 11. Agree with Young getting a run out. He looked very quick and lively. No time for sentiment, we need to field our best XI.

I don't really know why, but going for a 3-1 victory for us.
Think we'll be something like this, but maybe as a 4-3-3, and actually think it could work well.

Jesus, I don't know why that picture is so big.

I can't understand the confidence that we are going to win easily. I'll be very surpised if that happens. Our style of play is very convenient for Palace's counter-attacking style. Their wingers can create us a lot of problems. Blind hasn't been good recently as well. I expect the game to be decided in extra time.
You are saying that C.Palace can cause us problems.
We played them a few weeks ago and they were worse than A.Villa.
We beat them 2:0 on that occasion and it was very straight forward.

    Here is the report: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35733434
Shots on target: MUFC: 10, CP: 0

It was as if their players had accepted a 2:0 loss, before they even stepped on the pitch.
They were so bad, I felt embarrassed for their fans, who turned up to cheer such weak minded, defeated players.

For them to beat us, we would need to reduce our performance (unlikely, because we play like robots) AND they would need to significantly improve their own performance.

I have also noticed that some are voting for a draw.
This is the FA Cup final - there can be no draw. It will be ET, then penalties.
    Have I got this right?

We should be winning this due to the level of both squads but then again we've been shite for the majority of the season and you never know what United is going to turn up on the day.

I just hope to feck we win it, some of the guys in the squad deserve it.

Think it'll come down to Bolaise's composure. With his pace he will create at least 1 or 2 good opportunities on the counter - but - he's not particularly good at converting them. Similar to Zaha really.
