Feels like I didn't have enough time to miss football really. Last season ended about 1 month ago or so I believe.

    2-0 for us.

    De Gea
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof - Williams
    Matic
    VDB - Bruno
    Greenwood - Martial - Rashford

Possibly could have won it that year had it not been for injuries.
I know, but I’m talking about the summer of 2006. Nobody expected us to be as good as we were that season. I remember the pre season previews predicting it may be the season United dropped to 4th (which was unthinkable under Fergie)

“Carrick isn’t good enough” “they’ve not replaced Van Nistelrooy” “Rooney & Ronaldo hate each other” “has Fergie lost his touch”

All of the above was a taking point going into 06-07. Nobody expected us to win or even challenge for the league.

Yeah because the knee-jerkers won't be out in force

    Returned.
I just gave my thoughts on what the results may be. There were no comments about how the season would be played out. Who gives a feck about what the knee jerkers think. This was my thoughts on the possible first game. Your comment is a classic example of a keyboard warrior. An example of a classic idiot!

I also talking about that season, we went in to it being seen as just good enough for 2nd. Besides the Chelsea signings we had also sold Rvn which increased the media scrutiny. I think it's one of my favorite seasons because of how they underestimated us.

I'm most looking forward to seeing our goalnets at the start of a new season. We had some beauties over the years. My personal favorite are the soft nets, which hugged the ball when it hit:

Now the nets are too stiff. A worrying trend in the English football.

Anyways, hope the front three are all fit. We have no one to replace them and that would massively impact the shape if a non threatening RW enters the fray, like Mata or Lingard.
Net fetish eh? Takes all kinds i guess.

You want to play a diamond with our fullbacks? Do you actually know how that formation works?
TBH I'm not expert when talking about formations, but I watch teams playing formations without wingers (that's why I said diamond or other formations (4222 which I like too)). Iirc I watched the match when Sir Alex play diamond vs Newcastle (?). The FBs don't need to be that Alves, Alba, Davies... they just need to be at a good attacking positions to receive the ball to begin with.

    The feck is going on?
You should read the reply to my original post. It was an innocent prediction, nothing really negative. Guess the guy got riled up for no reason. Love having fun with these sort of people. But yes, I do wear a white coat....Lol

Think we'll be up for this. First game of the season, we had a bit more rest than other teams so we have no excuses not to go at Palace with everything. Hopefully Pogba starts and we can bring on VDB during the late stages.
No we haven't. That's exactly why we're starting later. Because we have had less rest.

This is a tricky one to predict, because Palace have already played a full competitive game and are likely further ahead in the race back to match sharpness, but United have match winners all over the 3 plus Bruno and Pogba. I'm going with a 1-1 draw, but fully aware that United could really blow Palace away if the attack clicks.

They've played 2 actually. They were in league cup action mid week weren't they?

Fitness levels are going to really show I feel. If we're chasing the game going into the last 20mins I will be very worried.

United n City have both been royally shafted going into this new season.

Isn’t there another international break in October? We’ll pick up momentum and it’ll just break it up again.

I think we're stomping this. 5-0 Manchester United.

    Pogba leads the way.

Looking forward to this. Its obvious our squad isn't ready to handle the season in terms of personnel, but the starting 11 is good so I have high expectations while we are fit and fresh. Only really when injuries start coming in is when I'd expect it to be derailed.

Guessed Greenwood to be left on the bench at first but maybe Ole backs him by putting him in the starting 11 so that he can just get back to business. Either way, we have the Carabao cup right away midweek so they'll all play from the start.

    Any word on Shaw?

Also, do people really think Pogba will start? He's had the flu a couple of weeks so wouldn't have trained, and we're still in pre-season; I can see him coming on as a sub for VDB (who looked good vs Villa)

Didn't Shaw play last weekend against Villa?

Edit. Sorry I read that as Shaw having the flu

Yeah, that's spot on actually. They've played 2 competitive games on top of 4 preseason games.

On reflection, I think Palace might actually have a really good chance of winning this game.

I'm talking about recently (like the last couple of weeks) since we did not play our first game.

For example, Crystal have already played two competitive matches on 9/12 and 9/15 and our last competitive match was Sevilla.

Tbh I don't get the negativity about this match. We should be able to win this comfortably. CP is a decent team but we're much stronger than them and we play at home.

My only worry is our players haven't played for a while so their match fitness may suffer a bit. Imo the first 20-25' would be a bit rusty but once we get the rythme back things gonna roll nicely.

3-0 for us. Martial and Bruno will score. Rashford should get one, he'd really need that. Greenwood may get one if he plays I think, the lad is a natural killer.

Can see Zaha play out of his mind as a final audition for bigger clubs interested in him. Not too confident about this fixture.

Like he has each time we've played Palace? :smirk:

It's always the same on here come match day. The oppo has one player we should be quivering in our boots to face. Of course we haven't got a single match winner they should be concerned about

We need to trash them by 4 or 5 goals, strong start to the season is important.

Ofcourse we're favorites. They did well to beat Southampton last week.
